all alcohol for me at this moment in time. I have been teetotal for nearly 3 weeks now and have become tediously health conscious for the first time in decades!

Xpost — I am also off the booze to right now, albeit for medical reasons, so good luck! I have found that non-alcoholic beers are much better than they used to be, when I need to scratch that itch
― Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 1 December 2022 12:13 (three years ago)
yeah I had a 0% lager beer with a curry I made the other day and it was more than decent and have never tried one before
― calzino, Thursday, 1 December 2022 12:24 (three years ago)
no-alcohol beer I've tried has ranged from horrible to ok, the best substitute I've found is kvass, which you can find in most supermarkets in the Polish section.

thing i no longer care about: vacations. cos every one I take from work gets ruined, every single damn one. we've had a dad ER visit just about every time I've been off (except one time this year).
(dad's ok this time, already home)
― Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Thursday, 1 December 2022 13:10 (three years ago)
The Brew Dog and Beaverton ones are good. Although that might be because the alcoholic ones are nothing special, so the non-alcoholic ones don’t taste that different
― Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 1 December 2022 13:12 (three years ago)
xp the whole apparatus of vacations from work inexorably makes both working and taking vacations worse
― عباس کیارستمی (Eric H.), Thursday, 1 December 2022 14:35 (three years ago)
Free Damm has been my tipple, had never heard of it before but it's on a £3.50 for a 4-pack offer at Morrisons. I found myself savouring the taste rather than glugging it down like it's a race to get fresh!

― Dan Worsley, Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:30 (three years ago)
this doesn't even need to exist. AI will only create bad art when it's asked to, it will never take the initiative
― Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:33 (three years ago)
^^^ that looks like the textbook example of "not my thing." I never saw the first one. xp
― Three Rings for the Elven Bishop (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:34 (three years ago)
not to get into a big argument here, but this is the point about AI art I understand the least. I've seen so many stunning and weird images come out of the AI world over the past year+. I think it's a mistake to look at it as a replacement for this or that other type of art, and just see it as it's own medium that generates it's own strange aesthetics.
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:37 (three years ago)
I think I've just gotten weary of the sheer amount of it - it's just everywhere on the internet now, and it's hard for me to stay interested at this point
― jmm, Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:49 (three years ago)
AI only creates images, not art. An AI-generated image becomes art only through the agency of a human who selects it and 'sponsors' it as art.
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:51 (three years ago)
and yeah, Avatar sequel otm
― jmm, Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:53 (three years ago)
the vast majority of it is unoriginal, derivative, dull, or just plain bad, exactly like every other type of art ever
xposts
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:54 (three years ago)
Add: if the human sponsor is a bad artist, they will only be capable of selecting and sponsoring 'bad AI art'. This was always true of bad artists. What AI adds to this process of making bad art is mind-boggling speed and ease, so thousands of images can be generated in a single workday. This sucks.
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:55 (three years ago)
when midjourney gets used to generate stills from imaginary nightmarish terry gilliam films, it rules. But it’s sad that so many people seem to use it for making ye old gaudy flashy cyberdelic goa trance compilation type illustrations

On my social media feed, the AI art battle is being fought by two sides that equally have no fucking idea what they're talking about.
Chalk it up to the Sneetchification of the net
― Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Thursday, 8 December 2022 20:12 (three years ago)
it's an extremely annoying argument, like there are obviously ethical questions involved, and there's also lots of shitty art floating around, but it's also just a new and unique medium and has already been the source of some really cool stuff and will continue to develop in weird unexpected ways. it's neither the end of the world or any better than anything else.
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Thursday, 8 December 2022 20:40 (three years ago)
the ones acting the smuggest about it are the ones sharing info that is laughably wrong, even by the very very little I know about it.
they think someone is cramming framed art into a cd rom drive piece by piece and it's coming back out as new art
― Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Thursday, 8 December 2022 21:53 (three years ago)
the AI art bothers me less than the AI writing which is clearly eventually going to be a big issue in academic settings.
― I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Thursday, 8 December 2022 21:56 (three years ago)
oh yeah. I mean aren't they already auto-writing blogs?
― Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Thursday, 8 December 2022 22:06 (three years ago)
it's just the people who are screaming about AI Art weren't doing it after Dall*E came out and other things like that, they waited for Lensa AI to get popular and their friends to start posting selfie art, and THEN they started moaning. because it's a chance to smugly brag about how you're not stupid enough to pay $4 for AI art in which the privacy agreement might be sketch (just like literally every app on the planet, including Facebook), and how also you're a true art aficionado and not ripping artists off like everyone else.
sorry if I'm not gonna be lectured by someone who proclaimed they were TeamJohnny during Amber Heard-Depp trial
