I'm not a fan of Sutton but tbf at least he despises Neymar

calzino, Thursday, 24 November 2022 19:22 (three years ago)

Can we take a deep dive into the state of Serbian politics?

Just saying..

Sometimes nobody deserves to win!

after several days on “the milk,” (gyac), Thursday, 24 November 2022 19:24 (three years ago)

If we have a 'what effect would a WC win have on the politics of the country' I'd rather Brazil won under Lula than Eng under the Tories.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 24 November 2022 19:27 (three years ago)

You and me both. Never mind the politics either.

Oh wouldn't it be rubbery? (Tom D.), Thursday, 24 November 2022 19:28 (three years ago)

Brazil can win as long as they leave Neymar on the big Jesus in Rio

Is Jermaine Jenas the most boring man alive?

Like 99% of the reason I’d enjoy watching the absolute dogshit that is Ireland internationals is for the lads at each other’s throats in the break and after

I'd like to see Micah Richards just put everyone else in a headlock for 5 minutes each while cackling.

nashwan, Thursday, 24 November 2022 19:52 (three years ago)

I've got a paperback edition of Only A Game on the shelf, never got round to finishing it because I'm half blind and can only read on kindles these days!

calzino, Thursday, 24 November 2022 19:52 (three years ago)

Why has Jenas been mentioned? KEOWN is covering this match.

I think Lula is only President-Elect and not yet in office: he returns on 1st January 2023.

Mowbray started saying that if Yugoslavia hadn't broken up they would have been a good team. Perhaps. Wasn't sure this was in good taste.

I'm a huge fan of Tim Vickery.

Meanwhile quite impressed by SER organization. Brazil haven't really had a shot on goal in the first half.

the pinefox, Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:01 (three years ago)

Yes, I just realized it's Keown. My point stands though.

Oh wouldn't it be rubbery? (Tom D.), Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:03 (three years ago)

Tim Vickery once did an astonishingly ill-judged impersonation of Ken Early on the Second Captains pod which was met by the usually genial hosts with stunned silence. just the most horrendously offensive 19th century Pat-and-Mike caricature bullshit, i could hardly believe my ears. still enjoy his insight but never really felt the same way about him since.

Windsor Davies, Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:11 (three years ago)

A Brazil victory would be of no use to Bolsanaro, politically.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:12 (three years ago)

If the Austro-Hungarian Empire hadn't broken up they'd probably be a pretty nifty team too, how far can you take that line of thinking?

User Sharivari absolutely incandescent with rage that he missed that goal

after several days on “the milk,” (gyac), Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:22 (three years ago)

Goal Brazil ! - fitting that they score for the first time when a teammate just takes the ball away from Neymar

there's your goal of the tournament

Number None, Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:32 (three years ago)

Astonishing stuff from Richarlison

link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:33 (three years ago)

Outrageously good!!

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:33 (three years ago)

Brazil are quite good

ionjusit (P. Flick), Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:35 (three years ago)

Brazil is playing better this half. Serbia roughhousing Neymar only worked for a little while

Punster McPunisher, Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:37 (three years ago)

Well he's off the field so it did work.

Oh wouldn't it be rubbery? (Tom D.), Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:38 (three years ago)

Still at least they kicked Neymar's ankles a bit, so efforts didn't go to waste.

link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:39 (three years ago)

p certain we'll see better goals than that, good as it was

imago, Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:39 (three years ago)

He got an assist in the first goal and he was subbed in the 80th minute. There's no reason to keep playing him for the entire match

Punster McPunisher, Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:41 (three years ago)

i had scampered over to American football, missed most of second half :/

Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:41 (three years ago)

hate richarlison about 100x more than neymar. cracking goal tho. brazil have been bang average in their general play.

oscar bravo, Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:48 (three years ago)

Been looking for Bolsonaro support from Richarlison but found nothing.

link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:50 (three years ago)

best way to show Bolsonaro support is get real sick and take off your pants and get hauled off in an ambo

Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:50 (three years ago)

have no idea what richarlison is like off the pitch and don't care, I dislike him for on pitch reasons.

oscar bravo, Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:54 (three years ago)

Brazilian footballers fouling players and having dumb antics is a tradition that goes way back -- the shot of Roberto Carlos brought back memories of that, too. Fuckin' hate that PED-chugging dipshit

Punster McPunisher, Thursday, 24 November 2022 20:59 (three years ago)

By the way, Neymar's "assist" consisted of running into the box and losing control of the ball - fortuitously it fell to another Brazilian player, the one who actually assisted the goalscorer.

Oh wouldn't it be rubbery? (Tom D.), Thursday, 24 November 2022 21:03 (three years ago)

Nice that Brazil’s first goal of the tournament is by one of their only left wing players 🙏

Hurrah!

Oh wouldn't it be rubbery? (Tom D.), Thursday, 24 November 2022 21:06 (three years ago)

They were pretty unplayable in the 2nd half and are easily one of the better favourites I've seen. Only France and Spain were faster off the blocks.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 24 November 2022 21:07 (three years ago)

completely disagree. they were okay.

oscar bravo, Thursday, 24 November 2022 21:10 (three years ago)

Tom D: I agree that Jenas has a dull and bad voice, but I don't think Keown is like him at all. Keown is the most inadvertently comic pundit on BBC or ITV - one of the few who I find worth attending to, for that reason.

Richarlison's second goal was superb, reminiscent of Manuel Negrete, who started out with the goal of the tournament but ended up superseded.

the pinefox, Thursday, 24 November 2022 21:12 (three years ago)

Holland and Uruguay played organised opposition so harder to judge.

Don't give a fuck about England

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 24 November 2022 21:13 (three years ago)

No confidence that Spain or England will take their early form into games against decent teams. My money’s on France grinding it out, everyone went off them when Benzema got injured but Giroud is exactly the right striker for Mbappe.

crisp, Thursday, 24 November 2022 21:14 (three years ago)

Brazil looked pretty menacing to me too. Need to see them against a team with a central midfield.

crisp, Thursday, 24 November 2022 21:15 (three years ago)

France, Spain and Brazil the most impressive after this round of games

Ok to be fair England too but what are the odds they can give two performances in a row like that?
