Tuesdays With Morimoto (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 8 February 2007 01:44 (nineteen years ago)

Neptune was once interesting, now it's a non-factor. Out of college, class distinctions no longer seem to exist for Veronica.

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:06 (nineteen years ago)

milo z you are wrong, neptune is still very much a factor. but you are trying so hard to be disappointed that I won't try any more.

i was trying the other day to remember what it was we agreed on that one time. do you remember?

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:10 (nineteen years ago)

it's a very small factor

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:12 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha YOUR AWESOME ARGUMENTS HAVE CONVINCED ME

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:14 (nineteen years ago)

How is Neptune a factor? The show is now 99.9999% Hearst College (itself devoid of personality), the secondary characters caricatures (Piz, the feminists) with no relation to the town. What makes New Nepune different, how is it a factor (ie why couldn't it be set in any unnamed wealthy beachfront locale?)

milo z (mlp), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:15 (nineteen years ago)

haikunym, there is another show that i think you would like. it is called studio 60 on the sunset strip.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:21 (nineteen years ago)

First of all, it's not New Neptune. it's still just Neptune. Secondly, the O'Dells and Logan and Dick and Madison still live in swanky places and get their kids out of jams with the law (and rape people like that one dude), and the Mars and Weevil and Wallace (the scholarship thing, which never would have happened but whatever) do not.

I actually think the "rich vs. poor" thing is an oversimplified way to see Neptune -- now we get all the college vs. town stuff, Lamb having to suck up to some college people but loving to bust college students, the way others look at Veronica for being a commuter student, etc.

Cousin Larry I think there is a show you would like, it is called Kiss My Ass.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:24 (nineteen years ago)

is that on BET?

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:25 (nineteen years ago)

wow you just went from something to something else

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:26 (nineteen years ago)

;)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 8 February 2007 02:26 (nineteen years ago)

Personally, I thought the second season (okay, mainly the Big Arc) was a shambles. This one is just about the same for me. I don't get excited about watching it, but I generally enjoy doing so when I get around to it.

The Ultimate Conclusion (lokar), Thursday, 8 February 2007 03:08 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, my patience for the show was tested a lot more toward the end of the 2nd season with the pregnant girl in a coma and Duncan running off with the baby, etc. this season has been pretty reliable by comparison, i think. KB definitely keeps it watchable during the weaker plotlines. I saw her on I think Conan once and she definitely comes across as completely different from her character, different voice, different mannerisms.

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Thursday, 8 February 2007 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

KB is airier, more flighty. Strange, VM is to me a realer person to me, but then I see her more often than KB nowadays.

I had that same feeling when I saw Sarah Michelle Gellar on a talk show for the first time, after watching Buffy for awhile.

Canceled!

Melissa W, Friday, 16 March 2007 04:18 (nineteen years ago)

better now than a season from now when we grow to hate it even more.
LOVE the first season and most of the 2nd season, though.

ian, Friday, 16 March 2007 04:20 (nineteen years ago)

God, I'm a good seven episodes behind. Thinking maybe I'll like it better all in one block, like I saw the first season.

Probably not, though.

milo z, Friday, 16 March 2007 04:27 (nineteen years ago)

it probably is better this way, and I haven't seen it in months, but :(

horseshoe, Friday, 16 March 2007 05:07 (nineteen years ago)

don't get me wrong, i'm definitely bummed it's gone cuz now what am i gonna do with my tuesday nights and only three channels? definitely not next pussycat dolls show!

ian, Friday, 16 March 2007 05:15 (nineteen years ago)

According to network insiders, the CW has not officially canceled Veronica Mars. However, they are currently considering a different format for the fourth season. That format would leap four years into the future and focus on Veronica Mars as an FBI agent. The rest of the cast, aside from Kristen Bell, is yet to be determined.

So bottom line: Veronica Mars could be: 1) spinning off into a new format, 2) returning in her college years or 3) getting canceled

Melissa W, Friday, 16 March 2007 05:47 (nineteen years ago)

whoa crazy!

horseshoe, Friday, 16 March 2007 05:49 (nineteen years ago)

ok except and then veronica's agency turns out to be a fake agency that's really evil and then like there's a real agency too and it turns out that who's running it but her *father* and also logan except she doesn't know if he's a double agent or not and meanwhile she's in the evil agency still but really starts reporting to the good one?

that would be awesome, for like a season or two. then they could have a new concept!

s.clover, Friday, 16 March 2007 11:57 (nineteen years ago)

The rest of the cast, aside from Kristen Bell, is yet to be determined.

No Enrico Colantoni, no remote chance in hell.

J, Friday, 16 March 2007 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

Enrico as her local PD liaison and Wallace could be her roommate and all would be well with the world.

milo z, Friday, 16 March 2007 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

But that means they'd have to kill Wallace at the end of season 2, only to bring him back as in evil clone.

Leee, Friday, 16 March 2007 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

Well, that's interesting. I felt like the show was a lot better in the last three episodes, but I doubt that they would have been able to do a good fourth season in college.

clotpoll, Monday, 19 March 2007 04:58 (nineteen years ago)

At least that would solve the age problem.

Simon H., Monday, 19 March 2007 18:10 (nineteen years ago)

I've finally caught up w/ the show. Sad to read that the rest of the season will be standalone episodes not involving a final arc.

Most likely I'm just naive, but it always seems like they never actually drop clues or hints or implications as to who the "culprit" of an arc is until the final episode (Aaron Echolls, Beaver Casablancas, Tim Whats-his-face, etc.). Am I mistaken? Someone please prove me wrong.

Stevie D, Sunday, 1 April 2007 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

teh culprit is always sorta a jerk?

s.clover, Sunday, 1 April 2007 09:58 (nineteen years ago)

There do seem to be clues, but there are always clues for loads of other people too. And a lot of the clues for the real culprit seem to be circumstantial and you wouldn't guess anything from them.

Was last night any good?

Leee, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

was last night about Muslims and terrorism? because I have never seen a TV drama do that without infuriating me, so if so, I will avoid the episode.

horseshoe, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

Last night was 'meh', but it had almost all the main actors, so I enjoyed it. The muslim/terrorist thing was ham-fisted, tho, and whilst i don't give a rat's ass about veronica and piz, the ending was pretty good.

Gukbe, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 17:35 (nineteen years ago)

Last night was good on several levels:

A) Veronica's excellent Samuel L. Jackson impression;
B) Mack's surprising-yet-appropriate couch encounter;
C) A very realistic, I think, interaction between Keith and Veronica in re: the latter's "harmless" hobby
D) Seeds sown for tension in Neptune's sheriff's office, good noir stuff
E) Dick's open fly in the elevator ("classic party tactic")
F) Great ending

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

If only for the look on Logan Echolls face!

Nicole, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

word up, that guy does 'wounded' like cary grant did 'debonair'

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

The "that Muslim guy's a dick - let's deport him" part seemed kinda heavy-handed.

The Yellow Kid, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

Have they officially cancelled VM yet or are they still pretending there'll be another season?

milo z, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

why do you care milo

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

Curious. I think I'm ten episodes behind now, guess I should wait for the DVD.

milo z, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

I am going to pretend the show ended after the last episode, because this one was so crappy I almost cried. So much bad acting, and the theme of it all, and the dialogue, and... Jesus, Rob Thomas, what did you DO! It's turned into a bad after-school special.

And then I probably love this show more than most, I've stood by it through highs and lows, but this... was just... I give up.

Hanna, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

GREAT, MORE FOR ME!

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:33 (nineteen years ago)

Seriously, have you seen other television shows? Their dialogue, scenarios, acting, filming, and general and specific plotlines are just about all worse than "Veronica Mars." There's no point loving a show's past so much that you cannot stand to watch it anymore -- it's free entertainment, and even if it is one billion million kazillion times worse than it was back in the golden halcyon days of its past (what, like seasons one and two were perfect all the way through and never had stupid stuff in them? uh, NO), it's still a really good show.

But you have a right to your opinion. I just don't see the need for all the DAMMIT ROB THOMAS I UNDERSTAND MORE ABOUT TELEVISION AND THIS SHOW THAN YOU DO, YOU BASTARD handwringing.

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

it's still a really good show.

Up through the first storyline of this season, it really wasn't.

milo z, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

I don't understand your timeline, milo, or what you're saying. But I'm pretty sure I disagree. Veronica couldn't stay in high school forever you know.

xpost:
I'm sorry if that seemed personal, Hanna, it's not meant to be. I have issues, and I'm kind of a dick.

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

I'll go back to not-posting now so y'all can go back to hating.

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

Matt! Stay where you are! You're absolutely OTM.

The sense of entitlement when it comes to nerds and TV is what's underpinning this divide, and the disenfranchisement of certain segments of the show's audience is manifested by pooping in threads to spoil them/the show for other people who still dig. God knows how I tried the same in Lost threads in the past, but c'mon, I eventually took my poo-slinging to other venues where nobody hears me complain.

Last I watched, this was still one of the best shows on the telly, however it relates to past seasons.

Leee, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, the shows you love the most are the ones you get you the most disappointed and emotional, right? That's all part of fandom. I just thought it was so silly, this past ep, that scene where V fell in slow motion, the righteousness and morale of the storylines, blah blah teens drinking, jews and arabs can be friends, it was all so simplified and non-reflective. I kind of expect the next one to be about teen pregnancy, and the one after that about bullying. But I'll keep watching, I still have love for VM.

Hanna, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

Okay that's fair enough methinks. I just tend to focus on the stuff I like rather than the stuff I hate, and the heavy-handed stuff falls away. By the way, nowhere did it say that Jews and Arabs can be friends -- only that they can have sex. The father was shown to be pretty damn intolerant!

Dimension 5ive, Thursday, 3 May 2007 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

Having actually watched the last episode...
that scene where V fell in slow motion

Yeah, I got a case of the not-in-a-good-way loffles; it was really something I'd expect from Heroes or somesuch.
And while the A-plot was really stupid and unnecessary, Matt's right: If you rilly love the show fer shure, then you focus on the positive, like the bday party teen melodrama. Mac and Max squee!!

Also, I love Dick. As long as the show features Dick, this boy will have a gay old time. Mm, Dick.

Piz can still suck it though.
