Anthony Atamanuik is the only Trump impersonator who got to that vile, lizard core of the man

Aside from Tim Heidecker channeling the aura of Trump into unique character work, the only entertaining Trump impression was that guy James Austin Johnson who was able to emulate his voice but more importantly his stream of consciousness in an actually funny and fresh way.

JAJ is good but was better when he was just riffing on his phone and wandering around town; putting makeup on him and putting him on SNL really blunts the surreal impact.

I remember reading that Will Ferrell's one-man show about Dubya was pretty searing, but I haven't seen it and I don't want to.

I actually only just learned that he was on SNL after googling to find out his name. I was referring to those wandering phone vids.

This reminds me of the profoundly cursed Tribute To New York City concert, where Will Ferrel came out as Bush to uproarious, non-ironic applause and delivered great satire such as "we were going to bomb Afghanistan back to the stone age, but turns out they're already there!". Kind of a precedent for current era SNL's shtick of "the joke is that this person is pretending to be a politician you admire and you get to clap for them".

I mean I just would not watch the guy now even if I thought it was funny because I think of him as a guy who's helping other people justify their anti-trans hatred, he's actively doing harm & getting paid for it. after he got attacked on stage and joked "a trans man didn't" or w/e, I was at a bar later that weekend and two douchey dudebros at the bar were talking about the attack, talking about how badass it was that Dave was getting to people and how it was a trans person that attacked him and just making mockery of that.

seeing him use his platform to basically put people in the crosshairs intentionally and seeing how easily it's lapped up makes me not want anything to do with him ever again. i don't care if he managed to be as funny as Killing Me Softly again, he's a hateful dude now and that's all I think of when I hear him speak

shortly after his first transphobic special me and some transmasc friends were walking around in portland when a couple of guys started "flirting" with us by threatening to breed us. (not sure whether I was included in this or not - I pass pretty well and often present sort of butch.) they followed that up with "we're down with dave chappelle, you know what i mean?"

anyway we just walked away quickly, and they didn't follow us, and we didn't have to get into an altercation or anything. it all worked out ok.
