https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehran_Karimi_Nasseri , the Iranian refugee who lived in the Charles De Gaulle airport's Terminal 1 in Paris for 18 years, died today. (The Terminal, with Tom Hanks, was based on his story)

StanM, Saturday, 12 November 2022 17:32 (three years ago)

(not quite sure on what happened but that 18 years was 1988->2006 , yet he died at the airport - was he living there again? - https://newsinfrance.com/mehran-karimi-nasseri-the-refugee-from-roissy-who-inspired-steven-spielbergs-the-terminal-died-in-the-airport/ )

"Stateless (1977–2022)" sounds like the name of another 22 CD King Crimson boxed set.

When did Sesnick become VU manager? After 1967?

Lord Pickles (Boring, Maryland), Monday, 14 November 2022 13:00 (three years ago)

After they told Andy he was a rat, iirc.

I never met him, but it seems like everyone I know who's in a band does. Love this picture of him with Bardo Pond

Beautiful words Stuart about a beautiful being. John took these. Worlds so fucked and now this bastion of humanity bows out. Hey Anton thank you for the kind words too.
Love you guys. RIP DoctorKiko pic.twitter.com/a8kGcd45ph

Robert Clary, "LeBeau" from Hogan's Heroes, 96.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/robert-clary-dead-hogans-heroes-1235263555/

nickn, Thursday, 17 November 2022 04:43 (three years ago)

Robert Clary had quite a story.

The main cast of Hogan's Heroes is all gone now with the exception of Kenneth Washington who only appears in the last season. Nita Talbot, who had a recurring role on the show as the White Russian spy "Marya," is still with us at age 92.

Josefa, Thursday, 17 November 2022 05:02 (three years ago)

had no idea he was a holocaust survivor
goddamn. RIP

adios to the last remaining cast member of Hogan’s Heroes. :(

I know this thread is for notables but damn you guys should've met Brandon Gibson. One of the smartest, funniest, most talented people I've ever known. I wrote this about him earlier in the year, when the opera he co-wrote inspired by the 2020 George Floyd protests debuted: https://compassknox.com/2022/02/18/giving-voice/. He was an amazing singer and co-director of a local indie opera troupe that commissioned original work (including one based on the life Beauford Delaney, with Brandon singing the lead). He was one of those people who helps bring and hold a whole community together. He died of natural causes — not sure, but I think something cardiac-related — only 36 years old. We're gonna miss him.

Name-dropping is one thing. With the gossipy Mr. Rorem, it could reach the level of carpet-bombing

One day in Paris he visited Wanda Landowska, grande dame of the harpsichord, to show her a concertino he had written: “No sooner had I entered than she took the pins from her hair, which fell in waves to her waist. ‘Take it,’ she said. ‘Take it in handfuls and pull, pull it hard and never go tell people I wear a wig!’”

Damn, that's sad to hear. Both of my kids had their phases of binge-watching Power Rangers re-runs. I'll be honest that I didn't follow the show all that deeply, but he was one of the longest-running cast members through all of the series. Through multiple line-up changes of sometimes forgettable/interchangeable faces, his character kept coming back and was a huge through-line for the series. R.I.P.

RIP. I saw him speak once at NYU. He lived up to his billing, was very witty and entertaining. Andrew Ross was in the audience. I tried to talk to him for a bit but had laryngitis and couldn't say more than "Are you Andrew Ross?" DIdn't speak at all to HME.
