caek I just really need to know that you didn’t refer to yourself as a “tweep” ever

Wiggum Dorma (wins), Saturday, 5 November 2022 20:52 (three years ago)

crossposted but read this, seems bad:

Xp I did not but lots of people do. Someone should write a list of all the names for tech company employees. Tweep might be the worst though.

Mailchimp employees call themselves peeps as seen in this deranged memo from the ceo

One month before Mailchimp CEO Ben Chestnut stepped down as CEO, he sent a 1,400-word email to employees about the use of preferred pronouns internally. He told workers (he calls them "peeps,") the practice was harmful — even coercive.

slai gorgeous-alexander (m bison), Saturday, 5 November 2022 21:20 (three years ago)

that usage of the word 'peeps' is just colloquial and short for 'people', I don't believe it's how mailchip employees referred to themselves.

akm, Saturday, 5 November 2022 21:20 (three years ago)

well, reading more, maybe not, because he keeps using the word over and over. but he also sounds demented.

akm, Saturday, 5 November 2022 21:21 (three years ago)

If you search twitter for mailchimp peeps then I get the impression it really is their internal name for employees, but who knows.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 5 November 2022 21:24 (three years ago)

pretty brave of him to talk about pronouns while referring to everyone as peeps

attitudes like this are completely incomprehensible to me, "I joined the Branch Davidians because I liked David Koresh's guitar playing" would make more sense

I was at work once for close to 92 hours straight. I went home twice over the course of that time to shower and change and had to be back at the office within the hour. We even took turns napping. It sucked so bad but was possibly the most gratifying project in my entire career.

I was in a dept once where people routinely bragged about hours worked and giving up their PTO and letting it expire, it was like "weird flex but go off"

i can totally understand working super hard and being gratified, after it was over, that you helped build something

i understand it much less when the task at hand is basically 'destroying the product because a billionaire says so'

To illustrate the chaos: some employees working on Twitter Blue, Musk’s revamped subscription service, were asked to join a video call as colleagues were being laid off last night. During that call, one person lost access, presumably because they were cut. https://t.co/za9DZtjFOY pic.twitter.com/dfZaGIwfgw

I don’t get the impression she’s especially bad relative to the other managers who are staying, all of whom are classic rise and grind types. She’s getting a lot of attention because she happens to be responsible for the first thing they’re trying to ship.

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 6 November 2022 11:23 (three years ago)

I was previously unfamiliar with the term "standup" in this context, and thought you were talking about a comedian doing a routine on a stage while sacked employees carried their boxes out.

Not to be overly sincere on main about Twitter, but I think if it does go down something that will be lost is something it offered to me. I started tweeting in my late teens, at a time when I was not in a great place mentally and didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life

Mastodon seems to completely misunderstand the value-proposition of Twitter - a global audience, people to yell at, people to yell at you. Livejournal didn’t get a moron to buy it for $44bn.
