have you quit twitter yet?

you could follow/retoot (?)/interact with other people not on ilx

i tried to sign up to the tribel offering the other evening.
very buggy and constant performance issues.
its going to take a lot for me to completely quit twitter.
i rarely see anything too unpleasant due to a small echo chamber setup on it.
a few news/journos + record labels + bands + producers + music nerds.
and little else.
makes my twitter experience rather enjoyable.

i would be super down for trying a ilxor mastodon (he says, not knowing anything)

i hate twitter and have started reading it compulsively even though its just people saying 'normalise breadsticks' or posting screenshots of sitcoms i've never heard of with the caption 'yass kween' and would be glad if this guy ruins it just enough so that it breaks my compulsion. I remember being hooked on FB years ago and then it got really boring all of a sudden so hopefully that happens soon and I can go back to only watching fashion shows on youtube.

people always think that whatever website will obsess them forever but like remember when nobody could stop posting on ilx and you would like try to post on a thread and every time would get the skipping messages thing and now the only thing anybody posts about are twitter drama and whether ilx is dead

There are literally infinite ways you can shape your own experience with twitter, and that is ONE of them. But ok.

I think this is related to Twitter charging to access its API, so sites that are built on it need to create revenue stream.

Tiwtter app got cross at my never checking it anymore, started sending me random tweets it thought I might like, so I uninstalled it.

Feel like this needs a do-over. I'm pretty sure I voted that I'd never quit, but I left months ago. I was hoping for some End Days of Twitter excitement until a final blowout but it's more just drawn-out and boring.

i still haven't quit. there are a handful of people / pubs i find valuable. and nice art bot accounts and stuff that are too good to let go of for me, too good of a time waste and a distraction. also stuff like my regional office of the national weather service, who also posts on facebook, but good luck getting updates on chron order there. i thought mastodon might do it for me but it was too much work :|

Mastodon feels pretty similar to me. I don't quite understand people's issues with it beyond "I fear change". Having said that, I haven't got anything that feels like a community on there yet, but I put that down to me having run out of steam on most social media platforms - I didn't post much on twitter before I left and I haven't posted much on Mastodon, so there's no real reason for anyone to follow me if they don't already know me.

I keep thinking about joining tumblr for the lols, but I've thought about it for over a decade and never done it.

Same. It's the only place where I feel some sense of community with other people who make a similar type of music. No idea if that also exists on Mastodon or how to find it tbh.

My huge problem with Mastodon is there's no search. I know that's a fundamental decision for them and it's not changing, but search on Twitter is hugely useful in so many ways. That's what makes it very difficult to discover/visit all those communities that you're not part of

I don't see anything still visible, but the counter at the top of my profile says I still have 2000K+ tweets somewhere in the system. No idea where.

Last I looked it was 99% a variant of engagement farmers posting algebra problems and claiming the answer was not the one everyone thought and respondents getting in heated arguments over it

I've set my account to private but not deleted it, and I occasionally look (like, once a week, if that often) but never post. I'm on Bluesky now. There's like one guy I wish would migrate over to Bluesky, but I know he won't.

I've very much changed my use of social media. I've kept Twitter and started with BlueSky but definitely have less of a compulsion to check either (compared to when Twitter was at its best). I've less of a sense of "I'm missing out".

a lot of my fave top tier twitter posters are still going strong and I have not seen one of them announce they are moving to bluesky. And these are the funniest and most fucked up ones that drew me into twitter in the first place. I don't really care which fucking arsehole owns it. Running an ugliest arsehole competetion amongst big tech billionaires is not for me, they ALL need executing.
