Is that the one where the actress, upon winning at Cannes, delivered a 17-minute speech?

Eric H., Wednesday, 2 November 2022 18:40 (three years ago)

Dunno but I will agree that it's quite a good film that lingers in the memory; caught a screening at the local Alamo the other week.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 19:33 (three years ago)

Can't find the acceptance speech, did find a press conference.

(We're Not) The Experimental Jet Set (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 2 November 2022 19:47 (three years ago)

Hah, I guess it was a comparatively brisk 6 minutes:

My one major beef with MUBI is some download weirdness.

Me and the Major on the Moon (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 7 November 2022 17:54 (three years ago)

Le Bao's Taste is very strange. It has arresting images but is inscrutable. There is almost no dialogue or explanation of events. It is a step further removed from Pedro Costa in that it shows an oppressed environment but it doesn't offer any context

Dan S, Wednesday, 9 November 2022 03:16 (three years ago)

So next week’s NYC GO offering is MEET ME IN THE BATHROOM? Don’t know how I feel about that. Also just a notice that WIFE OF A SPY is leaving soon but no sign of when.

Me and the Major on the Moon (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 10 November 2022 02:25 (three years ago)

Hmm.. Don't see WIFE OF A SPY here, which is usually the best way to see what's leaving. https://mubi.com/specials/leaving-soon

Restored & remastered riget incoming

Wiggum Dorma (wins), Thursday, 10 November 2022 19:12 (three years ago)

Don’t I know it.

Me and the Major on the Moon (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 10 November 2022 20:45 (three years ago)

MUBI hype injection into the James Redd cranial pleasuredome almost as intense with this as with DECISION TO LEAVE.

Me and the Major on the Moon (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 10 November 2022 20:47 (three years ago)

I feel exactly the same although I may go see the first thing anyway just because, just because…because I still have a krush0r on Karen O from the time I saw her hanging around MoMA downstairs when Spike Jonze interviewed Maurice Sendak? Or was it the other way around? I mean interview-wise.

Me and the Major on the Moon (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 11 November 2022 05:14 (three years ago)

In any case I prefer

The ground underneath the Kingdom is an old swamp.

Me and the Major on the Moon (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 13 November 2022 02:26 (three years ago)

Hmm, I got an alert about THE KINGDOM but I guess I still have to wait a few hours.

Ran over to see Netflix’s WHITE NOISE at the Angelika at the last minute yesterday, sorry forks for not letting you know.

The Dark End of the Tweet (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 1 December 2022 14:38 (three years ago)

Was it any good? I kinda hate Baumbach’s whole steez

Thought it was really, good but I usually like his stuff.

The Dark End of the Tweet (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 1 December 2022 16:12 (three years ago)

Recent reviews on this have been a bit of an about-face from its initial TIFF/NYFF buzz

عباس کیارستمی (Eric H.), Thursday, 1 December 2022 16:16 (three years ago)

I hadn't read anything in advance. I didn't really even know who was in it except for the couple. When I blinked and figured out who was playing the nun I almost laughed.

The Dark End of the Tweet (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 1 December 2022 16:39 (three years ago)

Which experience A.O. Scott would have spoiled for me.

The Dark End of the Tweet (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 1 December 2022 16:45 (three years ago)

Likely gonna see Nanny on Tuesday night at IFC at an open captioned screening as that's what my schedule allows. "Horror-version of Sembene's Black Girl" is of interest to me.

“Cheeky cheeky!” she trills, nearly demolishing a roadside post (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 4 December 2022 21:43 (three years ago)

With MUBI GO? Seems like not too many showings available.

Soda Stereo Total (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 4 December 2022 22:22 (three years ago)

Yeah. I wanted to go Monday but my MUBI buddy wasn't available so we pushed to the subtitles. Looks like IFC is just running this for awards season qualification which is a surprise given the substantial hype surrounding it.

“Cheeky cheeky!” she trills, nearly demolishing a roadside post (forksclovetofu), Monday, 5 December 2022 07:21 (three years ago)

ended up paying for this again because I fancied a Chan-Wook weekend. I re-watched Thirst which I've always liked (it seemed far funnier in parts than I noticed the first time) and watched Joint Security Area which is all over the place but basically v good.

calzino, Monday, 5 December 2022 09:28 (three years ago)

DECISION TO LEAVE streaming premiere party in NYC in a half hour but I won’t be able to make it unfortunately.

Maybe one of you can go and pretend you are James Redd.

Soda Stereo Total (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 8 December 2022 23:35 (three years ago)

Nanny wasn't good btw! needed significantly more time in the oven.

RIP, Mike Hodges. May be time to re-watch CROUPIER.

A Kestrel for a Neve (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 20 December 2022 23:14 (three years ago)

Had a “your MUBI retrospective 2022” email, which informs me that I watched 14 films in 2022 - placing which me in the top 21% of MUBI users.

I wonder how much use the average subscriber makes of it.

Luna Schlosser, Wednesday, 21 December 2022 10:04 (three years ago)

Good question. I feel like maybe it undercounts somehow, like if you didn’t watch something to the very end it’s not in there?

A Kestrel for a Neve (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 21 December 2022 10:41 (three years ago)

l definitely didn't complete all of the films listed. I think I only saw 11 films in full.

Luna Schlosser, Wednesday, 21 December 2022 11:02 (three years ago)

Any streamer is more likely to do the opposite for their metrics: if you watched just a little bit it counts.

Chris L, Wednesday, 21 December 2022 12:23 (three years ago)

two weeks pass...

Wondering why pip doesn’t seem to work on my phone app anymore or if it ever worked and I am misremembering.

Farewell to Evening in Paradise (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 6 January 2023 14:58 (three years ago)

You mean this?

Hans Holbein (Chinchilla Volapük), Saturday, 7 January 2023 06:55 (three years ago)

Heh, no. Picture in Picture.

CAIRO CONSPIRACY had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

And Your Borad Can Zing (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 3 February 2023 04:05 (three years ago)

Guess I should watch his other one, THE NILE HILTON INCIDENT

And Your Borad Can Zing (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 3 February 2023 04:05 (three years ago)

really! It didn't look of much interest. You recommend?

POLIZISTEN VERSINKEN IM SCHLAMM (forksclovetofu), Friday, 3 February 2023 04:05 (three years ago)

Yeah, but's it's kind of up my alley, not yours I don't think. Middle Eastern things shot in other countries. See also HOLY SPIDER and Apple TV+'s TEHRAN (the first season anyway).

And Your Borad Can Zing (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 3 February 2023 04:16 (three years ago)

hm, yeah i dunno. i should deffo watch holy spider.

POLIZISTEN VERSINKEN IM SCHLAMM (forksclovetofu), Friday, 3 February 2023 04:57 (three years ago)

Holy Spider is very good indeed.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 3 February 2023 05:03 (three years ago)

Forks, you passed on HOLY SPIDER earlier when you had the chance iirc

And Your Borad Can Zing (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 3 February 2023 05:21 (three years ago)

not so much passed, still have it on plex. just gettin in where its fittin in!

POLIZISTEN VERSINKEN IM SCHLAMM (forksclovetofu), Friday, 3 February 2023 09:16 (three years ago)

So, um, MUBI GO is starting to be a premium and the number of screenings this week is kind of limited. I think I may still keep it though.

The Windows of the URL (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 10 February 2023 21:03 (three years ago)

From the current crop of Leaving In 3 Days I think my first pick for myself might be THE APPLE, by Samira Makhmalbaf.

It's a great film.
