Man. Jaime Jarrin retires and then Laboe goes. At least Jarrin's still with us but with Vin out too that's the last of the great LA radio voices of that generation gone from the airwaves, really.

I interviewed Jenni Rivera in 2010 and she talked about how the only way she would ever make an English-language album would be if it was a collection of oldies, and she specifically said "like you might hear on the Art Laboe show."

How Lansbury was cast in her first film, Gaslight: She was 17, had never performed in front of a camera (& only a bit on the stage), & was working as a shopgirl at Bullocks department store. The screenwriter met her at a party & told George Cukor she should do a screen test.

Wes Anderson cast her in The Grand Budapest Hotel, but she ultimately had a scheduling conflict and was replaced by Tilda Swinton.

That might've been cruel considering how Swinton's made up.

I met her once when I was working in the King’s Road Body Shop and got her to sign our save-the-rainforest petition.

xp to Suzy - I only found out yesterday that her father was in the Communist Party of Great Britain, and her grandfather was leader of the Labour Party!

I roll my eyes a bit at the "newcomer discovered at a shop-counter" - her mother was a well-known Irish actress with her own film career, and her half-sister had married Peter Ustinov.

She aged quickly into maternal roles by the (bullshit) standards of the time - she was only three years older than Raymond Shaw in the Manchurian Candidate, four years older than Joan Plowright in A Taste of Honey, nine years older than Elvis in Blue Hawaii.

Anyway she was great, RIP

Seeing reports from people who would know on FB that bassist JW Brown (father of Myra Gale Brown, cousin and 3rd wife of Jerry Lee Lewis) has passed away at age 95.
