blue water was ehh. tuna in the carpaccio was overwhelmed by the avocado and wasabi drizzle not spicy enough. trout was a little more cooked than i like, and i would have used a more delicate tomato than wedges of heirloom. we shared lots of desserts - my favorite was the watermelon fizz because it was... fizzy.

also really, really shitty service. maybe bc it was 2pm during restaurant week. maybe because our server is just bad at life.

does anyone want to get dinner before the fake accents show in the LES? it has been forever since i've been down that way.

YES bc going home is pointless as i will be there for like 20 min and turn around and leave again.

There's a narrow little Thai place on...1st and 1st? It's next to that really obnoxious "Irish"y bar. I like it there.

what kind of japanese are you looking for?
i really liked yakatori toto, for all kinds of grilled chicken parts. the best thing was actually the fresh tofu, made at your table. the same owners also have a soba restaurant i think.

nam son (vietnamese) on grand st isn't more than a 15 min walk from cake shop. very cheap and tasty, although i don't know if the pho is any good because pho is like, the one asian food i'm not obsessed with.

i think 15 minutes is a little farther than i am thinking...i'm hoping for something in a 5 block radius. i am craving something noodley/doughy i think...not soup though, really.

pho is really a winter thing for me!

i've never had the pho there. for whatever reason, it doesn't interest me that much. i like the grilled pork chop/shredded pork/crab patty over rice, the caramel fish casserole, and the beef stew with baguette.

japanese I guess grill, I have been cooking from the fantastic Izakaya cookbook recently, so I'd like to try some more of that kind of stuff. I guess mid to high end, with some good cocktails a bonus.

Sakagura has the largest sake selection of any restaurant outside of Japan.

Ed, for good J- I recommend: the 9th street cluster: Sobaya (soba), Hasaki (sushi), Rai Rai Ken (ramen), Otafuku (fried octopus), and Yokocho (itzakaya). I still haven't tried Sakagura so if you want sake + Japanese pub food please contact asap.

ok help pls. wburg brunch: where to go? i haven't been in ages and ages so i don't know what's good these days.

i like Aurora for Brunch. they have a nice'ish garden area too. I generally despise brunch, but aurora has nice non-egg dishes too. For more traditional stuff, EGG on Bedford/N5th is REALLY good - like southern'ish style food. Might be a bit of a wait since its small. It's the old Egg/Sparky's Hot Dogs space... Not as nice atmosphere as Aurora but def cheaper

Oh, what is good to order at the outdoor cafes on the boardwalk in Brighton Beach? I got the seafood salad at Volna and it was pretty nasty. Luckily I had a Russian beer to wash it down with.
