oh, i thought like a sugar daddy thing. wanted to get in on the action too
― phil-two, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:34 (seventeen years ago)
haaa, i wish :P
― Surmounter, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)
i want in on that action, too! lol
blue water was ehh. tuna in the carpaccio was overwhelmed by the avocado and wasabi drizzle not spicy enough. trout was a little more cooked than i like, and i would have used a more delicate tomato than wedges of heirloom. we shared lots of desserts - my favorite was the watermelon fizz because it was... fizzy.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 21:37 (seventeen years ago)
also really, really shitty service. maybe bc it was 2pm during restaurant week. maybe because our server is just bad at life.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)
does anyone want to get dinner before the fake accents show in the LES? it has been forever since i've been down that way.
― bell_labs, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:07 (seventeen years ago)
YES bc going home is pointless as i will be there for like 20 min and turn around and leave again.
― tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:11 (seventeen years ago)
any good ideas for restaurants near the cake shop?
― bell_labs, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:12 (seventeen years ago)
excellent question! what kind of mood you in?
― tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:44 (seventeen years ago)
anything! except, nothing too pricey. maybe something asian?
― bell_labs, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)
i could def enjoy some asian.
― tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)
There's a narrow little Thai place on...1st and 1st? It's next to that really obnoxious "Irish"y bar. I like it there.
― Laurel, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:14 (seventeen years ago)
hmm.. i could also eat tacos.
― tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:17 (seventeen years ago)
aahhhh anything but san loco!
― bell_labs, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)
eeesh! there is that place on rivington next to magician. but we can look for asian too if you're really feeling that.
― tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 17:29 (seventeen years ago)

-- Ed, Thursday, July 24, 2008 2:00 PM (32 minutes ago) Bookmark Link what kind of japanese are you looking for? i really liked yakatori toto, for all kinds of grilled chicken parts. the best thing was actually the fresh tofu, made at your table. the same owners also have a soba restaurant i think.
― mizzell, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:34 (seventeen years ago)

ed: what kind of food (sushi? grill?) and price range?
nam son (vietnamese) on grand st isn't more than a 15 min walk from cake shop. very cheap and tasty, although i don't know if the pho is any good because pho is like, the one asian food i'm not obsessed with.
― lauren, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:39 (seventeen years ago)
I'm kind of over pho for the moment!
― tehresa, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)
i think 15 minutes is a little farther than i am thinking...i'm hoping for something in a 5 block radius. i am craving something noodley/doughy i think...not soup though, really.
pho is really a winter thing for me!
― bell_labs, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:44 (seventeen years ago)
i've never had the pho there. for whatever reason, it doesn't interest me that much. i like the grilled pork chop/shredded pork/crab patty over rice, the caramel fish casserole, and the beef stew with baguette.
― lauren, Thursday, 24 July 2008 18:52 (seventeen years ago)
kuma inn is dope, I've been there three times
gotta go early though, it's really small
what time are you guys going to dinner? I'm gonna grab a bite before cakeshop but I'm supposed to be there by 8
― dmr, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

― dmr, Thursday, 24 July 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

does anyone want to have dinner at 8?
― bell_labs, Thursday, 24 July 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)
japanese I guess grill, I have been cooking from the fantastic Izakaya cookbook recently, so I'd like to try some more of that kind of stuff. I guess mid to high end, with some good cocktails a bonus.
― Ed, Thursday, 24 July 2008 21:41 (seventeen years ago)
Ed:
Totto or Torys (same owners, Torys is a little easier to get into) Sakagura Aburiya Kinnosuke Suibi (I'm pretty sure the only Okinawan-style izakaya in the mainland USA).
― Steve Shasta, Thursday, 24 July 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)
Ta, muchly
― Ed, Thursday, 24 July 2008 21:51 (seventeen years ago)
Sakagura has the largest sake selection of any restaurant outside of Japan.
― Steve Shasta, Thursday, 24 July 2008 21:53 (seventeen years ago)
Ed, for good J- I recommend: the 9th street cluster: Sobaya (soba), Hasaki (sushi), Rai Rai Ken (ramen), Otafuku (fried octopus), and Yokocho (itzakaya). I still haven't tried Sakagura so if you want sake + Japanese pub food please contact asap.

― tehresa, Friday, 25 July 2008 04:14 (seventeen years ago)
ok help pls. wburg brunch: where to go? i haven't been in ages and ages so i don't know what's good these days.
― tehresa, Saturday, 26 July 2008 02:08 (seventeen years ago)
i like Aurora for Brunch. they have a nice'ish garden area too. I generally despise brunch, but aurora has nice non-egg dishes too. For more traditional stuff, EGG on Bedford/N5th is REALLY good - like southern'ish style food. Might be a bit of a wait since its small. It's the old Egg/Sparky's Hot Dogs space... Not as nice atmosphere as Aurora but def cheaper
― phil-two, Saturday, 26 July 2008 08:13 (seventeen years ago)
T., I'll eat Thai with you in Woodside. I was just thinking I had to go back there.
― Virginia Plain, Saturday, 26 July 2008 13:23 (seventeen years ago)
Oh, what is good to order at the outdoor cafes on the boardwalk in Brighton Beach? I got the seafood salad at Volna and it was pretty nasty. Luckily I had a Russian beer to wash it down with.
― Virginia Plain, Saturday, 26 July 2008 13:24 (seventeen years ago)
yay! my queens sojourn is thurs-sat if any of those evenings is good for you.
aurora looks nice. the food doesn't look toooo expensive.
