Not anywhere specific, but it gave me Scottish central belt vibes at first too. The low stone wall feels more Northern England though somehow.
It's a slightly bleak but comforting vista.

Do we need another hint?

Almost certainly Sheffield, think I know the general area too but need to dig a bit.

Endcliffe/Crooks I reckon

landscape looks like sheffield. crookes is a good shout. i'm not 100% convinced by the housing, but difficult to see where else it could be. too big for glossop, too hilly for the other cities in that part of the world.
― 𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 11 October 2022 15:35 (three years ago)
reminded me of bits of lancaster but that's way too big
― nxd, Tuesday, 11 October 2022 18:31 (three years ago)
I hoped there would only be two cobbled streets in Sheffield but no

Reminds me of some views of Bath.
― o. nate, Thursday, 13 October 2022 19:17 (three years ago)
My wife said Bath to be fair, I've just been busy and didn't look into it further.

There is one tower block in Bath and I've just scouted all the straight across crossroads that could face it with no success.
― Long enough attention span for a Stephen Bissette blu-ray extra (aldo), Thursday, 13 October 2022 19:50 (three years ago)
is it bristol aka the sheffield of the south?
― 𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 13 October 2022 20:38 (three years ago)
Nah, that's not Bristol (he says only to find out he's wrong).
― Long enough attention span for a Stephen Bissette blu-ray extra (aldo), Friday, 14 October 2022 07:12 (three years ago)
There's two somewhat distinctive looking churches in the first pic. The square tower and smoke-blackened exterior of the one on the left are not uncommon, i haven't found anything that really matches the squat character of the one on the right.
― ledge, Friday, 14 October 2022 08:17 (three years ago)
In terms of synchronicity I have just seen this on twitter via a retweet taken in Crookes which only makes me think I was right first time
Grouse moors on fire in the Peak District near Sheffield. based on the Bole Hills Aerial Scenic Point (360 aerial photo on google maps) I'm going to guess that Sheffield is slightly flatter than these two pics.
― StanM, Friday, 14 October 2022 13:37 (three years ago)
the tower blocks look kind of weird for sheffield in that they seem quite a long way out of town. still wondering if it's a smaller city.

View III
― Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Friday, 21 October 2022 08:56 (three years ago)
Think that might be Barrow Bridge Chimney in Bolton and there is generally a run-down Lancashire feel, but had a look and can't find any vantage point anything like that
― link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 21 October 2022 09:18 (three years ago)
i could be wrong but that chimney looks pretty square. not that i have any better suggestions, google (or yandex) pretty hopeless at showing tall square red brick chimneys in a search for same.
― ledge, Friday, 21 October 2022 09:48 (three years ago)
Hang on, where was view II?

Oldham maybe?
― kinder, Friday, 21 October 2022 10:00 (three years ago)
not that many square (hexagonal?) chimneys left in run-down hilly industrial towns in northern Rngland, surely?
― link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 21 October 2022 10:02 (three years ago)
i mean it looks a lot like Bradford but surely, with all the cities in the world, we're not doing Bradford again
― or something, Friday, 21 October 2022 10:22 (three years ago)
a few chimneys just north of Bradford at Shipley in the Aire Valley looking interesting and the area looks right but starting work now and can't pin it down
― or something, Friday, 21 October 2022 10:39 (three years ago)
full respect to cherry blossom for keeping this game running but it does seem to be a british city almost every other go.
― ledge, Friday, 21 October 2022 10:58 (three years ago)
it does seem to be a british city almost every other go.
I was beginning to think the same thing! But checking back through the 2022 entries and it turns out that 5 of the previous 24 cities were British (bolded) so it might be they stick in the memory more
Lisbon, Shreveport, Margate, Sapporo, Iasi, Shrewsbury, Brest, Maracaibo, Preston, Kryvyi Rih, Lanzhou, New Rochelle, Kampala, Brussels, Warrington, Ketchikan, Tow Law, Ostend, Wuppertal, Riverside, Moncton, Tuzla, Montbeliard, Setubal

No idea where this is but after taking a close look at the white van's rearviewmirror I'm convinced there's a yellow-ish ghost in there.
― Dinsdale, Friday, 21 October 2022 18:34 (three years ago)
Since I still have no clue I've been clicking around and most places feel too flat. The only thing that felt remotely like "this is the kind of hills & city size we're looking for" was Huddersfield.
― StanM, Saturday, 22 October 2022 17:49 (three years ago)
I looked at Huddersfield before, there's a church that could be the one in the first pic, and two chimneys that look right, but I can't find the other church or make it fit.
― ledge, Saturday, 22 October 2022 18:35 (three years ago)
very confident this is not sheffield now
― 𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 22 October 2022 22:50 (three years ago)
actually is that don valley, i.e. sheffield? chimney could be chimney house?
― 𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 22 October 2022 22:58 (three years ago)
I've tried to search Sheffield and surrounding conurbations inc. Rochester, and indeed most other northern towns, for churches like the one in the first pic but not very systematically. There's two in Sheffield that could fit but they're too close to the city centre, which is much more built up than
― ledge, Sunday, 23 October 2022 11:19 (three years ago)
wait that's doncaster isn't it?
― Fizzles, Sunday, 23 October 2022 11:23 (three years ago)
ok now i'm misdoubting myself.

xps hello from leamington spa btw!

four = definitely not sheffield. looks too big for glossop, but too isolated/rural/small for anything else i can think of.
