Team Magnus send Hans to the gallows

hrep (H.P), Wednesday, 21 September 2022 23:02 (three years ago)

LOL. I didn’t know about the Dlugy relationship. Absolutely incredible. He’s such a wildly shady character. In addition to cheating (and I suspect most people don’t know this), he’s been arrested multiple times for every financial crime imaginable.

Allen (etaeoe), Thursday, 22 September 2022 02:14 (three years ago)

gukesh currently #23 in the world at 2726 is also the youngest, 16 y/0, player in the top 100!

feel like he hasnt got as much hype as some of the other very young players but then he just went on an insane run recently gained 100pt in 6 months, wild

lag∞n, Friday, 23 September 2022 17:38 (three years ago)

4 indian teenagers in the top 100

lag∞n, Friday, 23 September 2022 17:43 (three years ago)

they found multiple games where hans played 100 computer perfect moves

Pretty cool analysis. TLDR: Fischer, Carlsen, Kasparov at their best played with 69-72% correlation to chess engines. Niemann played at >70% correlation in many tournaments, and 79% correlation in two tournaments in a row. https://t.co/8P3GkEQaVS

lag∞n, Sunday, 2 October 2022 13:36 (three years ago)

troubling things i learned from the defector piece on the history of cheating in chess = there are two tigran petrosians

mark s, Sunday, 2 October 2022 13:42 (three years ago)

one always lies, one always tells the truth

mark s, Sunday, 2 October 2022 13:44 (three years ago)

lol

lag∞n, Sunday, 2 October 2022 13:49 (three years ago)

actually i also learned that kasparov is a cheat and behaved like a complete dick towards a teenage girl who nearly bested him once

this is less of a surprise tho

mark s, Sunday, 2 October 2022 13:49 (three years ago)

yeah its lame kasparov has such a good reputation when hes a huge idiot baby whos been trying to start a war between the us and russia for the last decade+ and believes jesus was born in crimea in 1152, on the other hand he is maybe the best chess player ever, but still

lag∞n, Sunday, 2 October 2022 14:03 (three years ago)

"maybe the best chess player ever" -- the first and biggest red flag imo

mark s, Sunday, 2 October 2022 14:27 (three years ago)

second best: bobby fischer 🙄

chess.com says hans cheated over 100 times on their site https://www.wsj.com/articles/chess-cheating-hans-niemann-report-magnus-carlsen-11664911524

lag∞n, Tuesday, 4 October 2022 22:46 (three years ago)

yeah but chess.com says all kinds of shit

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 4 October 2022 23:25 (three years ago)

I was depressed yesterday so I put on some Tim Buckley and poked around the slides. A lot of the analysis is suspect but I think the conclusion is the same if the analysis was sound: Hans cheated frequently and cheated during tournaments.

Allen (etaeoe), Thursday, 6 October 2022 17:53 (three years ago)

yeah seems pretty clear hans is a cheating ass

lag∞n, Thursday, 6 October 2022 18:03 (three years ago)

wonder what fides gonna do, i dont think they have a policy for cheating thats not at the tourneys they run, and it could be harder for them to find evidence of cheating in their tourneys since they have so many fewer games to look at, they might just say fuck him anyway tho idk

Imagine if hans shoved something like this up his ass…for what?

calstars, Thursday, 6 October 2022 18:55 (three years ago)

A game in the US championship just ended in 10 moves. I know the feeling lol. https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tournaments/us-championship-2022/7/1/6

It's quite late so I am probably being dumb but does black really need to resign there? Fairly sure he's going to lose a piece no matter what but bit early to throw in the proverbial towel

paolo, Wednesday, 12 October 2022 22:26 (three years ago)

i've just started playing for the first time since I was a kid. way better at it now but still making dumb mistakes.

stank viola (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 12 October 2022 22:36 (three years ago)

high level game if you lose a piece with no positional compensation its over xp

okay, bottom right is where the magic happens

imago, Thursday, 26 January 2023 15:39 (three years ago)

I've been enjoying Tata Steel a lot - first time I've followed a chess tournie for a while. Carlsen lost 2 games in a row but seems to be back on form now.

In other news this was an interesting game from John Bartholomew - also the opponent's comments made be lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VQu33G-_ls
