endless queue waiting to get past hilary step, 67, whose giant hamper blocks the final approach

the procession on Monday will effectively be them passing the coffin along a queue - walked to marble arch then driven to Windsor. goes by about a mile south of here, the park by the road is already full of portaloos.

Said to me before last night’s DJ set: “You should play that Sex Pistols record, God Save The Queen. We learned about it in Year 9 History”. I feel like a Victorian grandfather.

Seems not observing the minute's silence has been happening at games all over Scotland this week. They're not even risking at the St Mirren v Celtic game tomorrow, they're having a minute's applause instead. Well, see how that goes.

5 live were apologising for "some of the bad language and swearing" during the minute's silence before the Spurs k.o. But I didn't hear anything. Or perhaps like Bastardi - I was in such a state of amazement that I didn't believe it had happened.

I'd be interested in how the St Mirren fans acted, not only because it's my hometown team but because virtually everybody in Paisley supports either Rangers or Celtic, so you're left with a peculiarly non-partisan non-sectarian fanbase for a West of Scotland team (a bit like Partick Thistle).

Hell is Luton airport.
Always a terrible place to have to pass through and completely unfit for purpose, I had the misfortune to be stuck there during the minute of silence for the Queen. An hour before the silence they started making announcements every ten minutes that this was upcoming, and strongly expressed how seriously Luton airport took this and that it “must be complied with”. Five minutes before the silence a woman announcer spoke over the P.A. and gave a totally over the top hagiography ending in a long rambling prayer for “our dearly departed Queen”,. A massed “Amen” from my fellow passengers bellowed through the terminal. It surely went way beyond what was required but she was just warming up…
Then we had the silence. I’d say 90% of people who had been sitting down got to their feet. I was sitting with headphones on and was scowled at by several people. Had I dared say anything I had a strong feeling I’d have faced severe repercussions. A few visiting tourists looked very bewildered and unsettled.
Then the announcer came back on with more prayers and a round of God Save The King. There was a near hysterical, zealous tone to her voice by this point. I found the whole experience deeply unsettling and could not wait to get the eff out of there. My flight was then delayed by 3 hours. The reason given was air traffic issue related to the Queen’s passing. I have zero idea what those issues might have been all but seems like an easy excuse for EasyJet’s failings. A horrible day.
