Jonathan Tjarks

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 11 September 2022 17:13 (three years ago)

Devastating news: We lost our friend Jonathan Tjarks to cancer last night. He was a fantastic basketball writer and thinker, and an even better family man and friend. He elevated everything we did.

His wife Melissa wrote about him here: https://t.co/wM6dC4PPFg

Swiss filmmaker Alain Tanner, 92. I've only seen Jonah Who Will Be 25 in the Year 2000 and In the White City, both of which were very good, balancing clear-eyed investigation with deep feeling.

Halfway there but for you, Monday, 12 September 2022 16:39 (three years ago)

He had a great run there for a while. RIP.

Jean Arthur Rank (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 12 September 2022 16:45 (three years ago)

I’d also recommend La Salamandre and The Middle of the World.

RIP. Wonder if anyone else has seen his Little Richard doc.

Never a bad time to repost a link to Little Orange Tree

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 14 September 2022 19:24 (three years ago)

I didn't realise there was a video clip for that song. I remember being slightly disappointed with the album, because it has a really bombastic beginning - but that track comes on and all is forgiven. It's like a distant ancestor of a lot of the stuff on 4AD that came out later on, e.g. Dead Can Dance etc. She had a very small but fascinating musical career.

Ashley Pomeroy, Wednesday, 14 September 2022 20:58 (three years ago)

Those records with Vangelis are absolutely unique to both artists. RIP

Rommy Hunt Revson, a former nightclub singer who created the Scrunchie, has died at age 78. In the summer of 1986, she taught herself to sew, combined fabric and elastic to avoid damaging hair, and made an early prototype that she named after her poodle. https://t.co/SE7eOmtoP4

always disorienting to find out the sage and revered philosophers whose essays i was being set as a student were in their thirties at the time, when i had them all filed as like maybe a decade younger than heraclitus (ie the age i am now)

anyway rip saul k, i am fairly certain i didn't get it and my own essays were all terrible

Report from Twitter that Dave Foreman - founder of Earth First! and later the Rewilding Institute passed. Age 74. True one-of-a-kind human. A much needed militant voice in the 80s when ignoramuses like James G. Watt were propagandizing about how trees cause more pollution than cars. Any conversation with him left you feeling optimistic and motivated - a rarity!
