what does sam sloan think of the magnus/hans drama
― Allen (etaeoe), Monday, 19 September 2022 18:35 (two years ago) link
magnus just does not want anything to do with the lad
Magnus Carlsen turned his webcam on, made one move, resigned, then turned his camera off and disappeared. He did not say anything. https://t.co/WPsUsktN8P— Motherboard (@motherboard) September 19, 2022

i don't blame him tbh
― Allen (etaeoe), Monday, 19 September 2022 22:57 (two years ago) link
yeah i tend to trust magnus on this, and a number of other top players seem to be suspicious of hans too, but its a pretty weird situation where magnus is just being extremely passive aggressive
― lag∞n, Monday, 19 September 2022 23:04 (two years ago) link
mb magnus is convinced that hans is cheating but doesnt have any hard proof
― lag∞n, Monday, 19 September 2022 23:05 (two years ago) link
he admitted to cheating. twice. in tournaments. and chess.com implied it was worse than that! it's insane he's even invited to these tournaments.
― Allen (etaeoe), Monday, 19 September 2022 23:15 (two years ago) link
getting caught cheating online doesnt seem to be that big of a deal in the chess world for whatever reason, theres other players whove cheated online but still get invited to live tourneys, tho i dont think theres anyone at the absolute top level, part of it i think is theres no formal admin relationship between the sites and fide
― lag∞n, Monday, 19 September 2022 23:24 (two years ago) link
another thing that complicates it is those cheating instances were when he was a child
― lag∞n, Monday, 19 September 2022 23:27 (two years ago) link
COVID changed everything because tournaments went online. He wasn’t cheating in marches to boost his Elo, he was cheating in tournaments and accepting cash prizes. This also wasn’t when he was much younger. The last incident happened at the beginning of COVID.
― Allen (etaeoe), Tuesday, 20 September 2022 01:10 (two years ago) link
yeah he was 16 at the beginning of covid, and fwiw hes been rolling since tourneys have gone live again, so if hes not cheating over the board then hes prob not cheating online either hes just that good
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 September 2022 01:14 (two years ago) link
i mean he beat magnus, his first classical loss in like two years
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 September 2022 01:30 (two years ago) link
I like to imagine Magnus is just salty as can be and is claiming foul to protect his ego. I say this in admiration to Magnus because Lord knows I would do the same in his position.
Seriously tho, Kinda messed up to let cheaters in. Don't care if it was when you were a kid or whatever. Bans need to be made public and enforced. Magnus is able to do what he is doing (and imo is justified) because FIDE and Chess.com are giving too much leeway and not being transparent with their response to cheating (speaking of the past). Hope this fixes things and we get some public stoning's in the future.no formal relationship between sites/FIDE really does mess with this. Team Magnus lets gooooooooooo

seems like magnus thinks this dlugy guy is in on the scheme
"Unfortunately I cannot particularly speak on that but people can draw their own conclusion & they certainly have. I have to say I am very impressed by Niemann's play & I think his mentor Maxim Dlugy must have been doing a great job"

Is Magnus mainly mad that someone in his team leaked his opening prep? it seems too implausable that someone would be able to engine cheat during an on the board classical game.
― cajunsunday, Wednesday, 21 September 2022 21:36 (two years ago) link
you could do it, some of the things people have done to cheat at gambling are unbelievable, chess would be relatively easy
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 September 2022 21:53 (two years ago) link
one interesting thing i read is magnus before this whole thing was speculating about cheating and said that hed only need to have two or three moves a game given to him to be totally unbeatable
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 September 2022 21:55 (two years ago) link
and people have done engine cheating over the board before fwiw tho not at as a high profile a tourney as sinquefield

you dont even need to get the moves from the anal beads just having them in there is an advantage

Oh I guess Dlugy is a known cheater huh.
Maxim Dlugy is an infamous New York based GM and coach, who has been accused of cheating online. He took some credit for Niemann's success when he made world's top 50, calling him his student.— Tarjei J. Svensen (@TarjeiJS) September 21, 2022

Shirov recently suggested he was suspicious of Hans cheating during an OTB Tournament in 2020. This game—almost every move is Stockfish #1— was played by Niemann during that tournament (via: The Zugzwang Blog) pic.twitter.com/kkeopYe6XD— Bed Bath & Beyond (@pabloroblesgast) September 21, 2022

― hrep (H.P), Wednesday, 21 September 2022 23:02 (two years ago) link
LOL. I didn’t know about the Dlugy relationship. Absolutely incredible. He’s such a wildly shady character. In addition to cheating (and I suspect most people don’t know this), he’s been arrested multiple times for every financial crime imaginable.

Pretty cool analysis. TLDR: Fischer, Carlsen, Kasparov at their best played with 69-72% correlation to chess engines. Niemann played at >70% correlation in many tournaments, and 79% correlation in two tournaments in a row. https://t.co/8P3GkEQaVS— Ludwig Yeetgenstein (@yeetgenstein) September 26, 2022

yeah its lame kasparov has such a good reputation when hes a huge idiot baby whos been trying to start a war between the us and russia for the last decade+ and believes jesus was born in crimea in 1152, on the other hand he is maybe the best chess player ever, but still

I was depressed yesterday so I put on some Tim Buckley and poked around the slides. A lot of the analysis is suspect but I think the conclusion is the same if the analysis was sound: Hans cheated frequently and cheated during tournaments.
