New Zealand lost singer Margaret Urlich.

This 1985 song was a #1 hit in NZ, but maybe could have gone on to international success.

This hit me hard, and I’m not even a huge fan, but they had a unique voice and was gonna be an artist who was going to be interesting to watch.

And already was interesting to watch, I should clarify

I got into Fly or Die a few years ago, but had really been into this year's Anteloper album. Still having trouble wrapping my brain around this.

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 23 August 2022 22:11 (three years ago)

Three of my favorite moments at Big Ears this year revolved around Jaimie Branch — her set with Fly or Die, which was fierce and fiery and fun; then she and the band backed up Alabaster DePlume; and then while I was watching Lonnie Holley she came and sat right in front of me, trailing plumes of weed and tobacco, she was super into the set. R.I.P. to a great player.

I just started listening to the new Anteloper just a couple days ago and was thinking about how much fun and far out it is. This sucks.

Hall of Fame KC Chiefs quarterback Len Dawson, at 87.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Wednesday, 24 August 2022 19:34 (three years ago)

I liked how Len Dawson stuck with a 1950s haircut right through to the mid ‘70s. RIP

Josefa, Thursday, 25 August 2022 00:03 (three years ago)

aw shit, RIP. My father inlaw used to play football for UOP back in the mid 50’s and talked about lining up against Dawson when they played Purdue on occasion.

Always seemed like such a classy dude

I know nobody owes anyone an explanation for dying, but I hate to see these vaguely worded death announcements for young-ish people because they all just fuel the anti-vaxxers.

This evening I watched a documentary available for rent on Amazon about Fred Lyon, Living Through the Lens. It's less than an hour long and worth your time. He was a remarkably creative and engaged guy into his 90s.
