Thursday

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Thursday, 18 August 2022 09:33 (three years ago)

Top right hand corner there looks to be a Belgian flag in the window. If that's right, and I'm not entirely sure it is (do Belgians put flags in their windows?), then it's too hilly to be Flanders. There appears to be a street lift, but it's not the one in Brussels.

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 18 August 2022 09:52 (three years ago)

Belgian flags can be seen on the national holiday or when there's international soccerball going on. Parts of Flanders are that hilly too.

StanM, Thursday, 18 August 2022 10:44 (three years ago)

guessing Liege maybe?

StanM, Thursday, 18 August 2022 10:50 (three years ago)

If it's Thursday this must be Belgium, again

ignore the blue line (or something), Thursday, 18 August 2022 10:51 (three years ago)

Could also be a German flag hanging down.

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 18 August 2022 11:52 (three years ago)

black-yellow-red is Belgium. Germany has the red next to the black.

StanM, Thursday, 18 August 2022 11:57 (three years ago)

Is that a bridge or an elevator in the middle of the pic?

ignore the blue line (or something), Thursday, 18 August 2022 12:18 (three years ago)

Looks like an elevator to me, which should make this easy... but googling Belgian street elevators is not giving me the answer

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 18 August 2022 12:29 (three years ago)

big glass roof to the left of the walking man - museum? government building?

StanM, Thursday, 18 August 2022 14:45 (three years ago)

or a train station, that could have an outside elevator too

StanM, Thursday, 18 August 2022 14:52 (three years ago)

given the suitcase i figured station

koogs, Thursday, 18 August 2022 17:42 (three years ago)

The street elevator and hairpin turn with mirror remind me of Monaco, but the trees on that hill look a bit too lush to be Mediterranean.

o. nate, Friday, 19 August 2022 16:56 (three years ago)

Apartment blocks definitely not swish enough to be Monaco. Whether this is Belgium or not, definitely getting Northern European vibes.

Zelda Zonk, Saturday, 20 August 2022 02:33 (three years ago)

We don't know :(

StanM, Wednesday, 24 August 2022 17:28 (three years ago)

I feel like this one should have been easy, with the Belgian flag in the window (possibly a red herring) and that very singular-looking structure which I assume is a lift/elevator down to a station. But it looks like we need another pic...

Thursday 2.0

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Thursday, 25 August 2022 12:27 (three years ago)

not a station after all!

ciderpress, Thursday, 25 August 2022 13:15 (three years ago)

Those two guys on the bridge look like they could be identical twins.

o. nate, Thursday, 25 August 2022 13:18 (three years ago)

I think it's Wuppertal in Germany...

the man with the chili in his eyes (ledge), Thursday, 25 August 2022 13:24 (three years ago)

might be the same person photoed and composited in twice

ciderpress, Thursday, 25 August 2022 13:29 (three years ago)

Phew, and thanks! I got it from the 'lyp cr' tag, then I spotted the monorail which had the right shade of green for its supports but couldn't find that bridge/elevator at all.

the man with the chili in his eyes (ledge), Thursday, 25 August 2022 13:34 (three years ago)

oh wow! good job!

StanM, Thursday, 25 August 2022 13:36 (three years ago)

The monorail looks way cool and has its own unusual detail in wikipedia article:

The Wuppertal Suspension Railway, a suspended monorail, serves the city and its surroundings. It has operated since 1901, with new cars added beginning in December 2016. In 1950, a young elephant named Tuffi was put aboard the Wuppertal Schwebebahn (monorail), as a promotion for the Althoff Circus. The swinging tram upset the elephant, and she trumpeted, charged, and plummeted 12 m (40 ft) into the river below. Tuffi suffered minor injuries; she lived until 1989. In 1999, the Schwebebahn had its thus far only fatal accident.

the man with the chili in his eyes (ledge), Thursday, 25 August 2022 13:36 (three years ago)

the glass was a station but the elevator didn't go to it, so we were both right and astray

ciderpress, Thursday, 25 August 2022 13:37 (three years ago)

I got it from the 'lyp cr' tag

how though? were you familiar with it?
I mean, I get one or two hits retroactively, but they don’t seem to lead straight to Wuppertal

(also kicking myself for not pursuing that lead, even though I saw it. I mean, what are the chances?)

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Thursday, 25 August 2022 13:57 (three years ago)

i searched for '"lyp" "cr" graffiti', second result says "I don't know anything about LYP Crew except they are from NRW, probably from the area Wuppertal" without even clicking through. pretty lucky, i doubt that would happen for most other tags.

the man with the chili in his eyes (ledge), Thursday, 25 August 2022 14:17 (three years ago)

very good work!

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Thursday, 25 August 2022 15:17 (three years ago)

oh and it was a sideways german flag!

the man with the chili in his eyes (ledge), Thursday, 25 August 2022 15:55 (three years ago)

we should've spotted that the black strip on the left was actually the side of the recessed window.

the man with the chili in his eyes (ledge), Thursday, 25 August 2022 15:56 (three years ago)

why I'll be... I was 100% sure on it being the Belgian flag but did not spot that the black wasn't part of the flag :(

StanM, Thursday, 25 August 2022 17:43 (three years ago)

Good work! The flag was a bit of an optical illusion eh

Looks like Southern California, which the Lakers shorts on the cyclist support. Maybe somewhere near Carpinteria, or Oxnard?

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Saturday, 27 August 2022 18:49 (three years ago)

Looks like one of the bridges over the Santa Clara River in Santa Clarita, CA but can't quite find the exact one.

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 27 August 2022 23:19 (three years ago)

the one in santa paula has the same railing but isn't it. none of the santa clarita ones i checked had the right railing

ciderpress, Saturday, 27 August 2022 23:41 (three years ago)

And I've been to Mt Rubidoux park right next to it - multiple times even!

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 27 August 2022 23:46 (three years ago)

credit to your guess though, i only did the easy work of checking a bunch of bridges in the region
