definitely a niche one for the UK crew. without a bit of knowledge of English non-league football teams you'd be looking for it forever (tho with that knowledge i feel i should have found it sooner, was clear from the first pic that there was a football ground and it was prob key)

This is also the very first time I hear about a place called Tow Law. Was the parking violation solution invented there?

StanM, Friday, 12 August 2022 12:08 (three years ago)

Wikipedia on Tow Law Town (the football club) has this line: "However, not all of the club's fans are hooligans"

StanM, Friday, 12 August 2022 12:14 (three years ago)

Do any Britishers want to talk about what that part of England is like? I have my guesses but maybe I'm being a dumb American

It looks pretty bleak tbh

broccoli rabe thomas (the table is the table), Friday, 12 August 2022 16:36 (three years ago)

Though also rather pretty. It seems "bleak but pretty countryside surrounding" is a descriptor of many small cities and towns in the UK and everywhere else, too.

broccoli rabe thomas (the table is the table), Friday, 12 August 2022 16:38 (three years ago)

right that was my impression for sure

a (waterface), Friday, 12 August 2022 17:29 (three years ago)

"it's grim up North" is a well-worn English cliche

rob, Friday, 12 August 2022 17:37 (three years ago)

Local boozer looks quite pretty

After looking at way too many pump tracks to do me good, I am glad someone got it. at times I was near and plenty of time very far away.

I introduced this game on another board as they are a good group to play it.

Someone got this on picture 1, within an hour.

horizontal, Saturday, 13 August 2022 01:16 (three years ago)

You're obviously dealing with pros. How did they get it so quickly? Through the ground?

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Saturday, 13 August 2022 02:43 (three years ago)

She was as a surprised as anyone. It is a soccer board. her words were “I was only checking Tow Law because it’s the right type of town and their ground is famously on a hill”.

They are from the North East UK, so the famously can be treated with a suitable amount of salt.

horizontal, Saturday, 13 August 2022 22:25 (three years ago)

Well, "right type of town" is the kind of intuition that goes a long way

Tuesday

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Tuesday, 16 August 2022 07:24 (three years ago)

The lighthouse (if that's what it is) looks pretty distinctive and could be the key. I see a couple of towers in the distance that look like cathedral steeples, and a couple of other steeple-like constructions. I'm guessing it's a coastal city somewhere in Northern Europe, on the North or Baltic Seas or something.

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 16 August 2022 07:49 (three years ago)

There are a lot of striped lighthouses out there, I'm learning

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 16 August 2022 08:03 (three years ago)

Other distinctive factors: strange fin-like thing centre-left; incredibly long (but well-trimmed) hedge; apart from a red people-carrier, all the cars seem to be white, what are the odds of that? Row of flags has me thinking we're at one of those "international" hotels, so maybe the white cars are rentals.

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 16 August 2022 08:11 (three years ago)

Man centre-right with flaming red hair - although the apartment blocks on the left don't look too Irish to me

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 16 August 2022 08:17 (three years ago)

Ostend / Oostende / Ostende? Looks like Lange Nelle the lighthouse, those stripes in particular.

Tim, Tuesday, 16 August 2022 08:23 (three years ago)

Just beat me to it! Based on the flatness of the terrain I googled Ostend lighthouse and got Lange Nelle...

the white car thing is just a coincidence, judgng by the makeup of that parking lot on the Google Maps image

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Tuesday, 16 August 2022 08:41 (three years ago)

I had a trip to Ostend all planned out, we were going to see the big Van Eyck show in Ghent and it got COVIDed. :(

Tim, Tuesday, 16 August 2022 08:41 (three years ago)

Ostend it is, that one went quickly!

Thursday

Tow Law City (cherry blossom), Thursday, 18 August 2022 09:33 (three years ago)

Top right hand corner there looks to be a Belgian flag in the window. If that's right, and I'm not entirely sure it is (do Belgians put flags in their windows?), then it's too hilly to be Flanders. There appears to be a street lift, but it's not the one in Brussels.

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 18 August 2022 09:52 (three years ago)

Belgian flags can be seen on the national holiday or when there's international soccerball going on. Parts of Flanders are that hilly too.

StanM, Thursday, 18 August 2022 10:44 (three years ago)

guessing Liege maybe?

StanM, Thursday, 18 August 2022 10:50 (three years ago)

If it's Thursday this must be Belgium, again

ignore the blue line (or something), Thursday, 18 August 2022 10:51 (three years ago)

Could also be a German flag hanging down.

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 18 August 2022 11:52 (three years ago)

black-yellow-red is Belgium. Germany has the red next to the black.

StanM, Thursday, 18 August 2022 11:57 (three years ago)

Is that a bridge or an elevator in the middle of the pic?

ignore the blue line (or something), Thursday, 18 August 2022 12:18 (three years ago)

Looks like an elevator to me, which should make this easy... but googling Belgian street elevators is not giving me the answer

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 18 August 2022 12:29 (three years ago)

big glass roof to the left of the walking man - museum? government building?

StanM, Thursday, 18 August 2022 14:45 (three years ago)

or a train station, that could have an outside elevator too

StanM, Thursday, 18 August 2022 14:52 (three years ago)

given the suitcase i figured station

koogs, Thursday, 18 August 2022 17:42 (three years ago)

The street elevator and hairpin turn with mirror remind me of Monaco, but the trees on that hill look a bit too lush to be Mediterranean.

o. nate, Friday, 19 August 2022 16:56 (three years ago)

Apartment blocks definitely not swish enough to be Monaco. Whether this is Belgium or not, definitely getting Northern European vibes.

Zelda Zonk, Saturday, 20 August 2022 02:33 (three years ago)

We don't know :(

StanM, Wednesday, 24 August 2022 17:28 (three years ago)

I feel like this one should have been easy, with the Belgian flag in the window (possibly a red herring) and that very singular-looking structure which I assume is a lift/elevator down to a station. But it looks like we need another pic...

not a station after all!

ciderpress, Thursday, 25 August 2022 13:15 (three years ago)

Those two guys on the bridge look like they could be identical twins.

o. nate, Thursday, 25 August 2022 13:18 (three years ago)

I think it's Wuppertal in Germany...
