Anyway we now need The VG Report since the second season of DR Down Under has begun. Sausage sizzlers were on the menu.

dude its all i can do to watch allstars & us seasons!i dont have Wow Plus & seriously cannot be bothered to watch nine other countries’ drag races airing seemingly simultaneously every weekits too overwhelming
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 August 2022 22:04 (three years ago)
This...is true. (Anyway I think this season feels smoother than the first one already, but we'll see. I will say the most overtly annoying 'you don't have to speak THAT loud' queen left in the first episode so that was a plus.)
― Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 22:05 (three years ago)
and in other news…hell yeshttps://variety.com/2022/tv/news/marvel-ironheart-shea-coulee-rupauls-drag-race-1235332831/

Yes I find myself lately quite confused what series I’ve been watching or is airing; between all stars, regular, Canada and France (in honour of our quebecois brethren) I just watch a constant stream of drag without really ever knowing what’s going on
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 4 August 2022 01:34 (three years ago)
I only watch the ones that RuPaul hosts, because otherwise I spend so much time reading the subtitles that I don't get a good look at the lewks (please forgive me), and I didn't really like the first season of Canada. Also, like Veg, I just have other things in my life. But I have to have WOW+ even to see the "core" shows. The subscription is also worth it for the non-bleeped editions of UNNNnnh.
― trishyb, Thursday, 4 August 2022 07:37 (three years ago)
This last point is urgent and key.
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 4 August 2022 14:00 (three years ago)
I love it so much.
― trishyb, Thursday, 4 August 2022 16:53 (three years ago)
Today's Drag Race France was pretty good I thought! In contrast to last week's emotional-as-hell lip sync here everything built to a (kinda preordained as you could tell) three lip-sync off to determine the actual top three for the final, and it was all good spirits and being your best, combined with the makeover challenge. Kinda made up for the anticlimax of All Stars!
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 4 August 2022 20:44 (three years ago)
we were quite shocked to realize we watched 27 seasons so far. we've yet to see all stars season 2 - we were waiting for a break between regular seasons but it's like a full time job now. we did try to get into drag race france but with closed captioning it does feel like you're missing too much, including double entendres and inner jokes and such (still, episode 6 is a must see for any DR fan!). and drag race canada is becoming a bit of a, well, drag.
Unsurprisingly Race Chaser's been perfect listening for going over the finale.Alaska: "They don't get critiqued, they get named a thing."Willam (flatly): "Which is...just...wonderful."
Alaska: "They don't get critiqued, they get named a thing."
Willam (flatly): "Which is...just...wonderful."
with 0 critiques on all winners it's been more fun than usual watching pitstop / fashion ruview. BOOT!
― scanner darkly, Friday, 5 August 2022 02:50 (three years ago)
Hahah yes I've been slack on the Ruview, I'm sure Violet was not having it at least half the time.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 5 August 2022 04:19 (three years ago)
Man, Down Under is so amateur looking. Not just the queens themselves (hi dere parade of corsets with stuff glued on), but the whole production. The lighting is awful, the editing is odd, and the whole thing just looks like it was put together for fifty quid. It's a good thing the queens are so funny.
― trishyb, Friday, 5 August 2022 14:39 (three years ago)
This is VERY true.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 5 August 2022 14:56 (three years ago)
Huge outdoors drag show here in Montréal last night for Fierté/Pride. Hosted by Rita Baga, who did an awesome job, highlights included La Big Bertha, Priyanka, Nicky Doll, Kylie Sonique Love, Silky Nutmeg Ganache, Ada Vox, Pithya, Ra'Ja O'Hara, Lawrence Cheney, and so many more I can't remember right now. They ended the show with a medley of 20 Céline Dion song clips done by each queen. It was a lot of fun !

I've only seen the first episode, but I can't turn off the English subtitles for some reason and they are pretty bad. Not only for the humor, sometimes it's just plain mistakes.
― LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 5 August 2022 20:55 (three years ago)
Good lord, that's a great fucking lineup.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 5 August 2022 21:08 (three years ago)
the last canada ep lipsync was pretty fierce, i half expected double save but that would break this season established tradition of reliably getting rid of the most promising queens
― scanner darkly, Tuesday, 16 August 2022 03:33 (three years ago)
Oh, is Down Under sponsored by Samsung? I hardly noticed!
― trishyb, Saturday, 27 August 2022 13:12 (three years ago)
(I don't care, it's just funny how they 'subtly' try to work in the new flip phones.)
Ha I didn't even think of that but of course. (Clearly it's working on me!)
Drag Race Philippines has been pretty enjoyable so far, honestly.
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 28 August 2022 00:38 (three years ago)
Drag Race Down Under had a satisfactory conclusion, but then I was a bit put off when I read that the winner had previously won a Shmu Shmaul's Shmag Shmace competition in 2020. Which also explains why there's a Drag Race Down Under in the first place.
I also watched the first episode of Jinkx's Sketchy Queens, and it wasn't incredible, but I enjoyed it. It deserves extra writers and a wider audience.
― trishyb, Saturday, 17 September 2022 10:08 (three years ago)
half-assedly dragging myself through the UK season but at least we got what was one of the best exits in the franchise history
― scanner darkly, Tuesday, 18 October 2022 02:46 (three years ago)
Truly was!
Drag Race Philippines was amazing BTW, might be my favorite iteration since Spain debuted.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 October 2022 03:49 (three years ago)
Drag Race UK is still going, in case anyone was wondering. And the acting challenge was terrible, as per.
― trishyb, Friday, 11 November 2022 14:37 (three years ago)
Season 15! Just me, eh? Seems like we could have some fireworks this season.
― trishyb, Saturday, 7 January 2023 23:48 (three years ago)
I have to catch up with the premiere next week, but I saw they’re pushing the “not rupauls best friend race” angle this season
― عباس کیارستمی (Eric H.), Sunday, 8 January 2023 00:17 (three years ago)
xpost Not just you! Caught up this afternoon. Glad they are basically getting right into it with queens going, but I suspect we're going to have a drawn out season anyway somehow with the MTV boostup. No faves yet but I'm liking a lot of them.
Quick catchup elsewhere that, besides Drag Race Philippines as noted earlier, second season of Drag Race Italia was waaaaay better than the first, they've found their groove now, and it's a good match for the Spanish one. Looking forward to what's next. Liked Drag Race UK well enough, good winner overall. Canada vs. the World was a bit of a timekiller but fun moments. Wondering what happened to Drag Race Holland, should have had season three by now...
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 8 January 2023 00:26 (three years ago)
(Also this thread is almost ten years old now. Crazy to think of it!)
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 8 January 2023 00:47 (three years ago)
And season seven of Unnnhhhhh was magnificent. I love those idiots.
― trishyb, Sunday, 8 January 2023 00:50 (three years ago)
Utterly great. Can't wait to see what the 200th episode will be.
Relatedly, a very good season of We're Here just wrapped up as well. It almost felt like a series finale at the end too, which given the HBO/Warners weirdness this past year wouldn't surprise me, but hopefully not.
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 8 January 2023 01:12 (three years ago)
Yeah that We’re Here Florida two-parter was v compelling
― werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 8 January 2023 01:27 (three years ago)
Anetra: her routine was great but I'm honestly worried that she kicked Bryce's hand?Sugar/Spice: Glad they wear their names on a necklace because I'm never going to be able to tell who's who, also, idg the reaction to their performances, which were both one-note and kind of amateurish.Sasha: I'm here for her DGAF mom vibes and "Zombie."Marcia^3: hands-down the best thing I've seen on this show in a LONG timeAura: for all her bulldozing over the other choreographers in the group number, her solo wasn't very good! No real build-up, no shades in her performance.
― Rabbity Gainsborough (Leee), Monday, 9 January 2023 00:39 (three years ago)
Yeah that choice of Sasha's was inspired.
― Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 January 2023 00:39 (three years ago)
Also, Aura we get it, you have muscles, you can stop flexing them now.
― Rabbity Gainsborough (Leee), Monday, 9 January 2023 05:19 (three years ago)
surprisingly more into it than expected after dragging myself through canada vs the world
maybe it’s because it does seem like there is a lot of charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent in this group so far? although it seems it’s getting to the point where if you don’t have a black belt in taekwondo or 1mil followed don’t even think about trying for this show. 4 of them being from connecticut is a bit weird.
they’re gonna setup a lipsync between the twins, aren’t they. speaking of, the shower cap thing would actually be funny if it was used in the other photoshoot.
surprised with the porkchop choice, figured she’d be positioned as the villain of the season
― scanner darkly, Monday, 9 January 2023 05:32 (three years ago)
A villainous departure! Yeah the Connecticut Cabal is unexpected. Can’t call her a dark horse with her top three placement but I have a good feeling about Jax.
― Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 January 2023 06:24 (three years ago)
yeah, Jax was great!

i’m sensing they’re setting up “seasoned queens vs tiktok queens” drama
― scanner darkly, Monday, 9 January 2023 06:41 (three years ago)
Mistress: she's going to need more than wig glue to cover up that glaring insecurity.
I was cackling at Michelle's lawn guy land narration during the runway.

Also I need to get back on track posting ancillary stuff because there was a lot! And a lot of it was great!
Pit Stop now hosted by Bianca del Rio (score) and initial guests were Ben and Jinkx (double score)

the twins’ facial resemblance to derrick barry is freaking me out
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 12 January 2023 05:49 (three years ago)
Hahaha hadn't thought of that but you know...maybe they were cloned in a vat.
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 12 January 2023 05:52 (three years ago)
miss thing who sang live was really spared an early guillotine, imo
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 12 January 2023 07:23 (three years ago)
Amazing FB comment about the twins: "out of makeup Sugar & Spice look exactly like Venture Bros"
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 12 January 2023 15:47 (three years ago)
they're also giving like... jedward? you could really build out a whole constellation of celebrity culture that they're in the lineage of
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 12 January 2023 18:29 (three years ago)
prob shouldn’t be surprising given how cultural nostalgia works but it’s funny how many of these younger queens do ditzy materialistic paris hilton type characters… of course they use the phrase Y2K. to me it’s all very kim petras which is a bit of a snooze conceptually and aesthetically given that she got there 5+ years ago. plus no one is ever gonna top willow pill’s entrance look from last season as far as these things go
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 12 January 2023 18:59 (three years ago)
Truth, that.
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 12 January 2023 19:00 (three years ago)
We're definitely well into the era of 'oh right, these queens are the same age as Lil Nas X...wait, YOUNGER.'
Good grief, so the combination of going back to just being an hour long with this many more queens meant this episode was like an insane speed run. (And next week is Snatch Game? How in the world are they going to make THAT work?)
― Ned Raggett, Saturday, 14 January 2023 05:43 (three years ago)
yeah not loving shorter episodes.
one of the least graceful exits tonight?
expecting great things from loosey!
― scanner darkly, Saturday, 14 January 2023 06:46 (three years ago)
the runway editing was notably arrhythmic in this episode. made the whole thing feel like an afterthought. very weird
