The great and somehow still undervalued Alan Grant :(

― Chuck_Tatum,

not here.
any comic which had his name on it was always of interest.
i absolutely soaked up his spin on Lobo, and the stuff he did for Batman/Detective Comics with Norm Breyfogle (i loved his angular stylised art).
may have to go a digging in the attic over the weekend and revisit ..

Yeah him and John Wagner wrote a lot of my childhood - like a lot of writing partnerships it's hard to tell what's from where. They eventually split up after arguing whether Dredd should kill Chopper - given his later anarchist beliefs I wonder which way they split.

Born Herbert Middleton Jr. in Newark, New Jersey, on May 10, 1940, Blacque later changed his name to reflect his astrological sign (Taurus) and the fact he was Black.

One cool MF to be sure. RIP

I remember at some time in the 90's watching Romy and Michele's High School Reunion high on drugs and it clicking in a pre-imdb manner that her dad was the legendary "Vinnie, don't put too many onions in the sauce" guy in Goodfellas. RIP

calzino, Monday, 25 July 2022 19:45 (three years ago)

Bad run for fictional gangsters period: Liotta, Caan, Tony Sirico (Paulie on The Sopranos), now Sorvino. Something I learned form the Sopranos book I'm reading: Sorvino refused to appear on the show because of its portrayal of Italian-Americans...which is weird. (He had his own sitcom on the air at the time, with a wholesome Italian-American family.)

clemenza, Monday, 25 July 2022 19:56 (three years ago)

(After he turned them down, I hope he finished with "Now I gotta turn my back.")

clemenza, Monday, 25 July 2022 20:01 (three years ago)

"Sorvino refused to appear on the show because of its portrayal of Italian-Americans"

he was possibly too much of a real Sopranos character for his own good!

As well as his acting work, we should salute Paul Sorvino for starting a dog adoption organisation with his daughter Amanda in 2002 that they called - yes - DogFellas. pic.twitter.com/g3almKmg1E
