We were clothed, except for Caan, who was naked. Don't know why. (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 13 July 2022 02:56 (three years ago)

hmm, what other spinoff COULD we cull from this universe

Meet The Kettlemens! Pre-prequel.

dow, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 03:00 (three years ago)

amazing how some dude embezzling a million dollars of government money led to the downfall of Mexico's most brutal drug cartel

frogbs, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 03:02 (three years ago)

Off the top of my head, spinoffs I would like to see would involve Huell, the film students and Lyle. Possibly all together

paolo, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 09:24 (three years ago)

So Gus knew Lalo was at the laundry and went there to finish him off right? That seems a bit implausible when they make such a big deal out of how cautious he is

― paolo, Tuesday, 12 July 2022 22:37 (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink

Gus has to stop Lalo getting evidence of the lab to Eladio though or he's fucked.

― Led By Honkies (Bananaman Begins), Tuesday, 12 July 2022 23:28 (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink

I could have been clearer there. What I meant was it seems unlikely that Gus would go to take down Lalo himself rather than just send his goons to do it. I know he had plenty of said goons with him but still

paolo, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 09:26 (three years ago)

A sitcom where Edwina Galbraith inherits her father's vacuum cleaner business and quickly comes to learn what that entails. Maybe it can be called This Sucks!

When the Pain That You Feel is the Bite of an Eel, That's a Moray (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 13 July 2022 09:33 (three years ago)

Don't think Gus trusts anyone else to be able to take down Lalo by that point, even Mike

Led By Honkies (Bananaman Begins), Wednesday, 13 July 2022 10:21 (three years ago)

They showed him planting the gun there a few episodes ago. He knew this is where things would end. It was all about the lab for Lalo

What is lalo but lab written funny

But yeah they’ve been building up that gus has been bugged by what lalo has been up to out there all this time and suspects it’s tracking down the lab, but also that he fucking HATES all this, hiding, wearing body armour to his respectable job, not being in control, for probably months at this point, and he’s going to act.

Lalo & gus are playing that movie-chess where your plan involves predicting exactly how your opponent will react to a supernatural degree of accuracy but really there are multiple points where it could have easily gone wrong for either of them: gus could have caught on to the Kim-tell earlier, could have called Mike as soon as he did instead of going off by himself; lalo could have shot sooner; that last shootout could have gone any way (gus got lucky and knows it)

Thought this was a brilliant ep, I’m used to this show operating in so many different modes but sometimes it knows to stay on the genre rails for a stretch and it’s so damn assured, everything proceeds elegantly from the characters and the execution(s) is about as good as you’ll get anywhere in any medium - so many neat touches. Loved especially Lalo’s jokerfied last gasp

(Preordained outcomes aren’t an issue for me, I’ve even been known to see a film twice)

Wiggum Dorma (wins), Wednesday, 13 July 2022 11:56 (three years ago)

Saw someone point out that in BB S5E1 Hank and Gomez say they found two unidentified bodies under the lab, man the writing on this show is crazy

frogbs, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 12:36 (three years ago)

Lalo shooting all 4 of Gus's men so easily was pretty ridiculous. Almost like we're meant to think it was darker than it was shown on screen.

maf you one two (maffew12), Wednesday, 13 July 2022 13:03 (three years ago)

Was that not the two guys who were guarding Jesse that Walt shoots in the finale of Season 4? xp

groovypanda, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 13:07 (three years ago)

Didn’t they dissolve those guys in the acid? idk I don’t think that line registered for me at all at the time

Wiggum Dorma (wins), Wednesday, 13 July 2022 13:39 (three years ago)

Lalo & gus are playing that movie-chess where your plan involves predicting _exactly_ how your opponent will react to a supernatural degree of accuracy

Over-flattering description. I think the acting and especially the photography and direction are so superior to the script, which is entertaining hokum but not great.

comments in the tread seem to indicate that was meant to be Tuco, but it certainly lines up

mh, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 14:48 (three years ago)

a lot of this shit is just retrofitted as well

We were clothed, except for Caan, who was naked. Don't know why. (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 13 July 2022 14:48 (three years ago)

lol, yes

I only watched it on a plane so I was fairly distracted. Is there anything in that one-off El Camino movie that holds up? Lots of vacuum cleaner guy, I guess.

mh, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 14:55 (three years ago)

hoping for a little Robert Forster shot long in advance

maf you one two (maffew12), Wednesday, 13 July 2022 15:15 (three years ago)

El Camino was aight, nothing I'd ever return to.

that last shootout could have gone any way (gus got lucky and knows it)

I kind of enjoyed how this is the face-to-face Big Duel that's been building up for seasons and we don't even really see it

kinder, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 15:24 (three years ago)

What do you mean? I saw it

Evan, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 15:28 (three years ago)

the actual shots took place in a couple quick seconds after Gus killed the lights!

mh, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 15:34 (three years ago)

But the audience still sees it all happen. The only thing we didn't see immediately is whether Lalo escaped into the darkness or got hit.

Evan, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 15:37 (three years ago)

Exactly, we don't see the "good guy" hitting the "bad guy".

kinder, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 15:52 (three years ago)

While coolly saying "YOU do the meth"
or "I've got a little some FRING for you"

kinder, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 15:55 (three years ago)

I GUS you can LA-LO down here... forever.

Evan, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 16:00 (three years ago)

Weirdly the version on my DVR cut out for the last minute and a half of the shootout. Had to watch a YouTube rip to see Lalo laughing at Gus' tough guy stance as he passed.

DJI, Wednesday, 13 July 2022 16:18 (three years ago)

lol they are having fun with this

Why was Michael Mando in the credits of this episode?

good interview with the writer of the episode https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/better-call-saul-point-shoot-writer-interview-1378877/amp/

they gave him a series regular contract, so i think he appears in the credits of every episode

in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 13 July 2022 18:55 (three years ago)

Still think the final meet-up and especially shoot-out in the dark(Gus got very lucky indeed, unless he's been practicing in the dark quite a bit, but even Lalo got lucky, in what was almost as dark on my screen) were hokey, but I know sometimes writers just gotta gotta get from A to Z, even if there's a bit of scribble in between (how did Walt get the ricin into Lydia's stevia packets?) It's okay, though; we're still zooming to z, and now no more "suspense" about the damn lab of ages, I hope.

dow, Thursday, 14 July 2022 01:15 (three years ago)

I know it was a necessary mcguffin for Lalo, and I always wanted more Lalo, but geez I got tired of seeing Gus standing around looking worried---enjoyed the character much more in BB.

dow, Thursday, 14 July 2022 01:18 (three years ago)

Although I guess he and Mike handled Lalo as well as they could, as most anyone could (wonder what Walt would do)(still waiting for him and Jesse and Carol Burnett, re press bit I pasted recently).

dow, Thursday, 14 July 2022 01:20 (three years ago)

how did Walt get the ricin into Lydia's stevia packets?

That didn't seem that difficult for someone like Walt. Lydia was very much a creature of habit (think Walt even remarks something about her being "schedule oriented") so doesn't seem beyond the realms of possibility for Walt to have sealed the doctored packet at home and slipped it into the box of condiments on the table Lydia always sat at before she arrives.

groovypanda, Thursday, 14 July 2022 06:28 (three years ago)

Yeah I think it’s pretty easy to supply the character doing diy montage™️ in your imagination there and (as with the brock thing ppl go nuts about it) they could have shown it but giving the game away would have taken from the reveal

Wiggum Dorma (wins), Thursday, 14 July 2022 06:37 (three years ago)

it

Wiggum Dorma (wins), Thursday, 14 July 2022 06:37 (three years ago)

That pic of Howard and Lalo is really quite sweet

but geez I got tired of seeing Gus standing around looking worried---enjoyed the character much more in BB.

― dow, Wednesday, July 13, 2022 9:18 PM (yesterday) bookmarkflaglink

This entire show messed up the Gus character. He was so much more compelling as the tidy unassuming businessman that drives a station wagon and makes all decisions in a cold businessman like way, which includes murdering an employee in front of the others to make a point, with the attitude of a corporate professional. In BCS he’s wearing dark suits with slicked back hair and getting driven around in black SUVs and scowling... just another cliche crime lord.

Evan, Thursday, 14 July 2022 12:20 (three years ago)

Agree with that. You'd expect the character to make the transition in the opposite direction...anyway, much more interesting in Breaking Bad.

clemenza, Thursday, 14 July 2022 13:34 (three years ago)

one thing I don't really get is how he figured out that Lalo being talked into sending Kim = him going for the lab

frogbs, Thursday, 14 July 2022 13:35 (three years ago)

Lalo being talked into a thing means that thing isn't important to him. So, what is important to him? Gotta be the lab. I agree it takes some squinting to make it look not-silly.

WmC, Thursday, 14 July 2022 13:47 (three years ago)

Talked out of a thing, I guess would be more accurate.

WmC, Thursday, 14 July 2022 13:48 (three years ago)

It's the whole Lalo-vs-Gus chess thing. If it doesn't matter which piece you've moved to make your play, then that move is probably part of something else and not relevant in itself

mh, Thursday, 14 July 2022 13:58 (three years ago)

didn’t an earlier episode show gus obsessively measuring and studying every corner of the lab in anticipation with a confrontation with lalo?

in places all over the world, real stuff be happening (voodoo chili), Thursday, 14 July 2022 14:10 (three years ago)
