(note to self: this is not a prompt for me to start talking about my own complicated and often intensely painful relationship with motherhood as a trans woman)

Kate (rushomancy), Wednesday, 18 May 2022 15:56 (four years ago)

sorry i mentioned kids ... just got me thinking of painful break-ups and how several couples I know have "suffered" or "continue to suffer" still together for the sake of the kids, and also financial issues related to kids

sarahell, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 16:00 (four years ago)

no worries, i know people can come at it from really different headspaces :) parenthood is a particularly fraught subject in transfem spaces. people use the fact that a lot of transition stuff leads to infertility as a pretext to invalidate our identities - which doubly hurts because a lot of trans women deeply wish we could conceive and bear children :(

Kate (rushomancy), Wednesday, 18 May 2022 16:11 (four years ago)

people use the fact that a lot of transition stuff leads to infertility as a pretext to invalidate our identities

that sucks. Sorry for triggering that.

sarahell, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 16:23 (four years ago)

i mean, i get where they're coming from. reducing the entirety of a woman's gender to her reproductive capacity is obviously an essential component of empowering women through feminism!

Kate (rushomancy), Wednesday, 18 May 2022 17:28 (four years ago)

for a long time now, maybe as far back as janice raymond in 1979, terfs have been calling trans women who have had bottom surgery "eunuchs". to do so is, of course, utterly factually incorrect. there are plenty of people who self-id as eunuchs. eunuchs are not the same thing as trans women. eunuchs are mostly male-presenting, don't identify as women, have no desire for feminizing hrt. being a eunuch is fine, but i'm fucking obviously not one. it still really got under my skin when they did that, because i didn't know any better, because transphobes weaponize public ignorance against us, that's how they're effective. i was really afraid that no matter what i did, even if i got bottom surgery, i could never be a "real" woman - at best i'd be an incomplete man (which, again, isn't how i see eunuchs now - i was more ignorant at the time).

there's so much about transphobia that is really absurd to me. bottom surgery isn't what makes me or anyone else a woman, but for transphobes to insist that i am still some variety of man when i am in fact so committed to not being a man that i've undergone an elective penectomy seems especially perverse. don't get me wrong, it's not like having it done was all that big a deal, the stupid thing isn't just worth all the fuss people make over it, not that _important, but it took a fair amount of effort on my part to get it done and the procedure caused me considerable (in retrospect highly exaggerated) anxiety beforehand.

at this point I almost get a kick out of posting, knowing there's a likelihood that no matter how reasonable or thoughtful I'm being, you'll reveal quite how unhinged you are in response

imago, Sunday, 29 May 2022 11:23 (four years ago)

You don’t help yourself a lot of the time with your disingenuous baiting, LJ

gyac, Sunday, 29 May 2022 11:25 (four years ago)

how is what I say disingenuous?

imago, Sunday, 29 May 2022 11:26 (four years ago)

On this thread?

Mark G, Sunday, 29 May 2022 11:27 (four years ago)

Seriously lads can ye take it to nv’s quarantine thread and get it all out of your systems or something

gyac, Sunday, 29 May 2022 11:31 (four years ago)

Cast it as 'unhinged' as you like I am just replying to your wrong posts LJ. I would do it with anybody else but no one else's posting are as wrong as yours lol.

Gyac casting as anything out of the ordinary is also bollocks.

Will concede that I do sometimes post unfinished concepts so as to prove or refute, but I rarely do so from a position of absolute certainty, something which the honourable gentleman above possesses considerable quantities of

imago, Sunday, 29 May 2022 11:47 (four years ago)

Lol @ unfinished concepts.

Patricia Brake, versatile British actress probably best known for playing Fletch's daughter in Porridge or as Eth opposite Ian Lavender and Jimmy Edwards in the TV revival of The Glums.

Come on. There's no way any of this — the people's names, the names of the "TV programs" — is real. Very well done parody, though.

but also fuck you (unperson), Sunday, 29 May 2022 13:18 (four years ago)

Porridge is a gritty prison drama, it's like the UK equivalent of The Wire

calzino, Sunday, 29 May 2022 13:29 (four years ago)

I was gonna say "oh she was really good" etc, so I shall, here.

But, vg+ to you both.
