Safely say that's somewhere in this paradise we call the UK
― ignore the blue line (or something), Wednesday, 18 May 2022 14:15 (four years ago)
Yeah, feels incredibly familiar yet also I have probably never been there.
― kinder, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 14:41 (four years ago)
my brain is having a hard time comprehending how the door on the left connects with the brickwork.
― Ste, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 14:51 (four years ago)
The building on the left clearly needs that alarm system, doesn't it.+ what a mysterious row of windows to the right - with the red panels. Not garage doors... - also that very high light pole straight ahead, there must be a big area there I suppose?
― StanM, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 14:59 (four years ago)
the gray bit of building sticking out on the right is pretty distinctive too, imho
― StanM, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 15:00 (four years ago)
I'm guessing the red brick building is a car park. Looks like there are about ten thousand modern red brick car parks in the uk. The building reflected in the window with the vertical fluting is also pretty standard issue.
― buffalo tomozzarella (ledge), Wednesday, 18 May 2022 15:03 (four years ago)
I think there’s a playground at the far end of the park. Not that it narrows down the location too much.
― that's not my post, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 15:26 (four years ago)
ftom what I gather, the double yellow kerbside is also used in Ireland (I’m ruling out former BE places like Malta, S’pore and Malaysia here)

twice the same typo for the price of one!
― butt-mooning is a polysemous word, hoss! (breastcrawl), Wednesday, 18 May 2022 16:11 (four years ago)
that's not a Scottish flag above the door, right?
― StanM, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 17:49 (four years ago)
university campus ahead? train station? hospital? - no idea where to start clicking on a map, for now
― StanM, Thursday, 19 May 2022 23:01 (four years ago)
not sure if that is a saltire above the door but that building does feel Scottish. pic reminds me of some places in Glasgow
― ignore the blue line (or something), Friday, 20 May 2022 13:22 (four years ago)
Definitely reminds me of Glasgow too, but I don't recognise it at all.

Hey Preston! nice one!

i recognised the bus station
In the first shot too, though it was difficult to get a view with it in from that angle

― Christmas in Davenport (cherry blossom), Tuesday, 31 May 2022 06:06 (four years ago)
heyheyhey
Lots of Soviet-style housing blocks. One building I can see that might conceivable be a church, otherwise no churches. Main road in pretty poor condition. Cars look like they're driving on the right. Huge gash in the landscape on the left, looks like it might be an old open-cut mine or something. Couple of power plant type buildings. I'm guessing one of the poorer ex-Soviet countries.
― Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 06:32 (four years ago)
intriguing indeed - I was convinced it could be Asbest but I can't make it work I think
― StanM, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 14:08 (four years ago)
googling "world's longest mine" brings up nothing apart from the deepest

kotamii is "cats" in Polish, but maybe it's kotam(mirrored N) & russian?
― StanM, Monday, 6 June 2022 10:26 (four years ago)
A cuckoo clock to complete the Swiss theme, but that first photo sure as hell ain't Switzerland. I'm still guessing Eastern Europe
― Zelda Zonk, Monday, 6 June 2022 10:37 (four years ago)
googling "swiss themed bar" "swiss themed chalet" "swiss themed restaurant" + Russia , not being very lucky
― StanM, Monday, 6 June 2022 10:44 (four years ago)
The more I stare at that second photo, the more it looks like some kind of Lynchian hell. What's with the light switch that has no switch? The creepy pictures on the wall, of birds and cows? Why the shelf of rolled towels, in what looks like a bar/restaurant? The cowbells, the sad pot plant, the surveillance camera on the wonky ceiling?
― Zelda Zonk, Monday, 6 June 2022 12:04 (four years ago)
yeah, the towels... is it the bar/dining area of a Swiss themed sauna/swimming pool?
― StanM, Monday, 6 June 2022 12:19 (four years ago)
It's definitely Russian on the sign - котами
― Portsmouth Bubblejet, Monday, 6 June 2022 12:46 (four years ago)
Russia it is, then (or near/ex-Russia)
― StanM, Monday, 6 June 2022 12:56 (four years ago)
it's not this salt mine in Ukraine but there are some vv nice pics of it

still focussing on the first pic as the interior ones never do much for me. it's incredibly similar to Kryvyi Rih in Ukraine but while there are hundreds of aerial shots to go off i can't get any of them to line up
― ignore the blue line (or something), Monday, 6 June 2022 14:57 (four years ago)
i think that's pretty obviously correct!

It is Kryvyi Rih! Tried it with the satellite image turned off and noticed a big depression just north of where I'd been searching
― ignore the blue line (or something), Monday, 6 June 2022 15:57 (four years ago)
The sign is above the bathroom on the left.
― nickn, Monday, 6 June 2022 16:19 (four years ago)
omg well done! I had been looking for mines in Ukraine but somehow this one didn't show up or I did it wrong
― StanM, Monday, 6 June 2022 16:50 (four years ago)

have to say tho: it’s not really fun to scroll through photos of shops and restaurants and seeing people there who may very well be fighting in the war right now, or worse
