mookieproof, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 02:01 (two years ago) link

I was at the game. That goal was a huge bummer.

Happy retirement to Patrick Marleau

btw looooool at pierre mcguire lasting less than a year in ottawa

can't believe that guy was seriously bandied about as a legit executive; only melnyk would hire him

mookieproof, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 22:44 (two years ago) link

habs win the top pick in the draft

mookieproof, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 22:53 (two years ago) link

nearly halfway through the game and the leafs have six shots on goal

mookieproof, Wednesday, 11 May 2022 00:54 (two years ago) link

hugest leafs period since . . . dougie gilmour, probably

mookieproof, Wednesday, 11 May 2022 02:20 (two years ago) link

great game

symsymsym, Wednesday, 11 May 2022 02:50 (two years ago) link

Happy retirement, Penguin great Patrick Marleau!

Then There Were Two. That leaves (by my count) Thornton and Chara as the last active NHL players who shared the ice with Gretzky.

Wasnt mike smith coached by gretz *touches nose*

think we've all learned an important lesson tonight: never go up 2-0 or 3-0 on the road

mookieproof, Thursday, 12 May 2022 02:28 (two years ago) link

if the oilers lose this -- let alone in six -- that will really be something

mookieproof, Thursday, 12 May 2022 23:19 (two years ago) link

Fingers crossed for LA, but leafs game is something else so far

scampos sacra fames (outdoor_miner), Friday, 13 May 2022 01:28 (two years ago) link

I mean I wld love for any Canadian team to win the cup, but grew up in SoCal so can't not root for my team

scampos sacra fames (outdoor_miner), Friday, 13 May 2022 01:30 (two years ago) link

Here we go, lol.

daBobo (PBKR), Friday, 13 May 2022 01:50 (two years ago) link

One thing I’m not going to miss about this series is opposing teams w identical color schemes.

tobo73, Friday, 13 May 2022 02:44 (two years ago) link

Go Bolts. Should be a good game 7.

Michael F Gill, Friday, 13 May 2022 03:01 (two years ago) link

yikes minnesota

my ass literally hurts from clenching watching the Leafs last night.

Diehard fan that I am, I'm giving the Leafs a one-goal deficit--if they fall behind two, I bail.

clemenza, Saturday, 14 May 2022 23:59 (two years ago) link

both the jays and leafs are playing Tampa tonight strangely enough

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 15 May 2022 00:06 (two years ago) link

if they fall behind two, I bail

classic my dad move (and not unwarranted)

mookieproof, Sunday, 15 May 2022 00:10 (two years ago) link

you still have to check in in the third to see if they clawed one back tho

mookieproof, Sunday, 15 May 2022 00:12 (two years ago) link

I sincerely feel sorry for anyone who lives and dies with this team. My friend's dad turned 90 recently, and he's been swearing off them for 50 years.

clemenza, Sunday, 15 May 2022 00:17 (two years ago) link

CLEM WE'RE TIED UP

mookieproof, Sunday, 15 May 2022 00:36 (two years ago) link

NOT ANYMORE

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 15 May 2022 00:41 (two years ago) link

>>I sincerely feel sorry for anyone who lives and dies with this team

they must have the most ironic goal song in the league with "you make my dreams come true" (hall and oates)

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 15 May 2022 00:45 (two years ago) link

fuck

gotta get more than 14 shots in 40 minutes

pucks to the net, good things happen, etc etc

mookieproof, Sunday, 15 May 2022 00:50 (two years ago) link

i persuaded a wendel-sweater-wearing friend of mine to let his auston-sweater-wearing pre-teen stay up late for OT the other night

fucking sack up leafs

mookieproof, Sunday, 15 May 2022 00:54 (two years ago) link

Not that I know what I'm talking about, but that was my sense too: that the Leafs spend a lot of time looking for the perfect shot, whereas Tampa Bay fires away. I guess it works for them most of the year.

clemenza, Sunday, 15 May 2022 00:56 (two years ago) link

that is not inaccurate

mookieproof, Sunday, 15 May 2022 00:58 (two years ago) link

i'm told that the crowd spent much of the third period of game 5 shouting SHOOT THE PUCK

mookieproof, Sunday, 15 May 2022 01:00 (two years ago) link

they're shooting now

the bums

maf you one two (maffew12), Sunday, 15 May 2022 01:44 (two years ago) link

well shit. i guess my friend's kid now truly understands the leafs experience

but also i somehow wanted clemenza to join the bandwagon and now that's failed as well

mookieproof, Sunday, 15 May 2022 01:50 (two years ago) link

They had that one good power-play, but geez, not much near the end. I feel terrible right now, so I can imagine how faithful fans feel. The Blue Jays beating the other Tampa Bay team almost makes it worse--tonight you switch places?

clemenza, Sunday, 15 May 2022 01:53 (two years ago) link

5 straight seasons losing in the winner-take-all game, how is that even possible

symsymsym, Sunday, 15 May 2022 01:58 (two years ago) link

It is possible if you are the leafs. Not as bad as last year’s meltdown to the habs though.

Battle of Florida series incoming

Punster McPunisher, Sunday, 15 May 2022 02:37 (two years ago) link

Basically if it’s the Leafs - and their season is on the line, I tune out. Yet again, I have made the correct choice this year.

I’m on the Battle of Alberta bandwagon. I’m going to say it’s doable for the Flames tonight

Punster McPunisher, Sunday, 15 May 2022 15:39 (two years ago) link

Yep, bring it on!

Punster McPunisher, Monday, 16 May 2022 04:59 (two years ago) link

This has been nuts so far. The flames have been all over the stars so far …. And they finally scored!!!!

Lol. As I was typing

Oettinger was Bubble Demko-worthy

symsymsym, Monday, 16 May 2022 05:19 (two years ago) link

that was an insane performance. i thought for sure the Stars would win it with some flukey goal every time Oettenger kept them alive after an insane barrage.

as the resident pens fan, that was disappointing

on one hand, even before crosby got hurt, pittsburgh was down a top-pairing defenseman, a top-six winger, and forced to start a minor leaguer in goal. they really shouldn't have challenged the league's best goalie

on the other hand, the penguins dominated the rangers at 5-on-5, guentzel scored more goals than anyone else had in a series in 10 years, and they chased shesterkin twice

on the other other hand, they very thoroughly blew a 3-1 lead. and they blew two-goal leads in games 5-6 and a late one-goal lead in game 7. and they got utterly destroyed on special teams despite having earlier in the season had quite a good PK

anyway i am bummed because i think they're better than the rangers. probably not better than carolina or the florida teams, but a round would have been nice

at least we have been granted battles of alberta/florida! although i do think the oilers' all-navy-with-orange-lettering sweaters are fucking awful
