The Spectator

One of these political magazines is a fascist rag run by Andrew Neil, one is a supposedly centre-left Guardian-style melt thing, but which is which? I can never remember without looking it up.

there's always a ph34r of accidental mixing-up when I need to mention any of

Boccherini
Botticelli
Boccaccio

those three easily-mixed-up Italians of long ago who, um, excelled in entirely different arts and together span half a millennium between the birth of the first and death of the last :-/

Robert Kirby
Blue Weaver

Probably because both played keyboards for the Strawbs but are better known elsewhere. Can never remember which one of them worked with the Bee Gees and which with Nick Drake without looking it up.

― Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 27 January 2019 15:54 (three years ago) bookmarkflaglink

i mean ffs someone here is aiming for confusion (of course it's the terf)

mark s, Sunday, 22 May 2022 09:23 (four years ago)

a bit rough on the actor Posey if someone might get you mixed up with the nutjob who suggested armed men should start entering women's toilet to "protect" them.

Mark G, Sunday, 22 May 2022 21:38 (four years ago)

Yeah, kind of for me too, though it more falls into the realm of “I can’t help one name making me think of this other” than actual mixing up. See also: Fairport Convention, who I was aware of after Fairground Attraction.

From a Buick 6 (Bob Dylan song)
From a Buick 8 (Stephen King novel)

(I mean I don't confuse a song with a book, I just can't remember the cylinder count in the Dylan title since it doesn't appear in the song anywhere).

Wait, they are not the same?

Double Elvis on the Dime (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 9 June 2022 17:06 (four years ago)

apparently not! I just sampled a few songs by each duo, and it seems as if one of them might be 'sadcore' and the other might be 'slowcore'. not sure which is which, though. further investigation is needed

f.m. corndog (unregistered), Thursday, 9 June 2022 17:18 (four years ago)

This is why I have my other similarly named thread that seemed to have caused a bit of confusion. I know that they both exist and don't really Always Get Them Mixed Up, but yet.

Definitely been guilty of mixing up these two Bills in the past.

For years, Pullman was in the odd position of being a household name who was forever mistaken for the late Bill Paxton, star of Apollo 13, Twister and A Simple Plan. Even now, Pullman’s Wikipedia page has a slightly impertinent note at the top: “Not to be confused with Bill Paxton.” Pullman blames the confusion on the plosives in their names, though I suspect it’s more to do with their everyman personas.
