it's amusing seeing some of those most vehemently calling for Boris to resign are quite rightly saying beergate is really actually a nothing story, but maintaining that partygate should be judged by a different set of standards and rules.

one of the amusing bits of the Eagleton book that has stuck in my wet-brain memory tonight was the bit where Amy Jackson, Corbyn's political secretary, angrily told Starmer that some messaging he'd prepared for the media involving his slyly prevaricating PV campaign "was like something that an A-level politics student would come up with". And then Eagleton follows up with something like "he never spoke to her again after this incident".

Lots that some of us have said in past UK pol threads about Corbyn and his team lacking in competence on this or that issue, but this is really bad (also funny).

The absolute best case scenario for Starmer here is the police decide he didn't do anything wrong, he waltzes to parliament with "I said I'd quit if I were found guilty, I was not and the prime minister WAS, he should resign", Boris shrugs, life goes on as usual.
