lol at all the centrists calling for starmer to stand down (if fined) and thus remove boris by the power of moral pressure

this would be funny sorry if this offends

funnier stil if boris then doesn't resign and toughs it out lol

mark s, Friday, 6 May 2022 17:51 (four years ago)

A few might be thinking that sacrificing Starmer might be worth it to tank Rayner.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Friday, 6 May 2022 17:53 (four years ago)

Boris will never resign.

He will when he’s bored and wants to make that sweet think tank/after dinner stealing money I bet.

That's what I meant to say, he'll go when he wants to go.

Jeremy Corbyn describes the police investigation into allegations Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer broke covid rules “very serious” and “a huge development”.

Good take from Aditya. And as his follow-up says, Starmer as PM is more than possible.

Much of England is entering an era of no-party politics, in which voters stay at home or vote grudgingly at best. A lot of protest voters looking for a suitable outlet.
Very reminiscent of the period immediately before the Brexit vote -- only without UKIP

One positive aspect is that LTNs are seen as positive.

Loud but tiny anti-LTN campaigns have been a huge boost for Labour councils– across London opposition parties have oversestimated opposition to schemes, latched onto campaigns, and lost basically everywhere. Lambeth now has zero Tory councillors for the first time ever!

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 May 2022 10:39 (four years ago)

im glad that's the case, i read that tweet many times trying to work out exactly what it was saying lol

mark s, Saturday, 7 May 2022 10:50 (four years ago)

There is opposition to it, seen the odd sign/leaflet (including outside my favourite Chinese takeaway lol) but it is v good that it's not amounted to anything at local level.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 7 May 2022 11:06 (four years ago)

Yeah, it could be clearer that it's the "loud but tiny" nature rather than the campaigns themselves that are the boost.

Reflection from ex-Tower Hamlets councillor (from the left), who decided not to stand.

Congratulations to all the newly elected councillors & commiserations to those not returning. I decided not to stand in this election. When I stood in 2018 Tower Hamlets felt filled with the hope Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership brought to our party. 🧵 https://t.co/qQO0zv2rQ9

NEW: Labour leader Keir Starmer has cancelled his event with the Institute for Government tomorrow.

It comes following further Beergate reports this weekend.

Labour are refusing to comment on why the event has been cancelled.

by choosing to go after Johnson on this, rather than offer any challenge to policy, he's reduced the whole political conversation to dumb back and forth about nothing. pretty forensic you have to admit

calzino, Sunday, 8 May 2022 18:46 (four years ago)

it's amusing seeing some of those most vehemently calling for Boris to resign are quite rightly saying beergate is really actually a nothing story, but maintaining that partygate should be judged by a different set of standards and rules.

calzino, Sunday, 8 May 2022 19:00 (four years ago)

one of the amusing bits of the Eagleton book that has stuck in my wet-brain memory tonight was the bit where Amy Jackson, Corbyn's political secretary, angrily told Starmer that some messaging he'd prepared for the media involving his slyly prevaricating PV campaign "was like something that an A-level politics student would come up with". And then Eagleton follows up with something like "he never spoke to her again after this incident".

calzino, Sunday, 8 May 2022 23:33 (four years ago)

Keir Starmer is today considering pledging to quit if he is fined over beergate
