I wld like to give a thanks to Jordan for how encouraging he's been on the Elden Ring thread making me feel less like a complete NOOB.

Though I often disagree with him, Calzino shows considerable fortitude in the face of adversity, sticks by his principles and is often insightful on the politics thread, and never holds back dare we offer any mainstream political party any slack. So fair play to him.

Grandpont Genie, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 08:26 (two years ago) link

If you can catch him in between permanent bans.

Was Hitler a Hobbit? (Tom D.), Wednesday, 27 April 2022 08:27 (two years ago) link

He certainly has a vibrant and trenchant political opinion for every UK politics discussion (namely ‘Fuck Kieth’).

the only good uk politics opinion

Literally every day KS does something stupid or terrible and literally every day I shake my head in amazement and think of the guy telling us not to trust him from day one of his leadership!!*

*added some exclamation marks for in character post

by the time you get 50 pages into the Eagleton book, if you don't want him to die an extremely violent death at this point, then sure - vote Labour and get the Tories out!

calzino, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 09:06 (two years ago) link

also the excellent Bill Brand series is available on youtube, a top class political drama and a good reminder that the Labour party has been hostile to socialism for almost its entire history.

I don't know most ilx posters at all but recently I've quite enjoyed reading the posts by poster Grandpoint Genie.

the pinefox, Saturday, 8 October 2022 13:37 (one year ago) link

That thread could very easily have gone totally fucking insane very fast, but instead, everyone posting has made thoughtful and substantive contributions despite clear and vehement disagreements. Good work by kate, Brad, ufo, paolo, table and everyone else. It's a model for the rest of ILX to follow, honestly.

i've been entertained lately by ashley pomeroy's digressive miniatures

I greatly enjoy Zach TBD’s poetry and hope to see more when the time is right.
Also I get a blast when I see my fellow Aussies post, you know who you are and I am afraid to make a list because it will accidentally omit someone good.

I wish more of us still did! I miss the days we had the huge crew with Gaz and Moley and all us Melb mongs. I saw ESOJ and Haitch at my birthday in March but otherwise havent seen any of youse in forever.

I like searching threads and seeing posts from ILXors from 2003 who I also see posting in the here and now. Mark S, noodle vague, Scott Seward, Raymond Cummings, Josh in Chicago, james redd, enbb, daniel_rf, trayce…. The list goes on and on sorry not going to name it all. It’s really something to have an internet space with this kind of longevity in the community, and as a silly young trotter myself, this place makes aging seem fun (yeah I know it’s probably not). This website is unique and I love seeing all your names fly off with takes and take downs. Lord knows I’ll be happy if I can keep anything going consistently in my life as long as some of you have been ilxors. Thanks for the lifetime of posts you’ve left to some of us

a love song for connor wong (gyac), Friday, 28 July 2023 12:21 (ten months ago) link

ftr all of my posts until like 2009 are bad and should feel bad, my initial run in with ILX was classic "kid who's used to thinking of himself as the smartest guy in the room is faced with reality" stuff

I do endorse the sentiment tho, what I particularly like is that whenever I get into a genre or rediscover an old artist I can search ILX and will almost always find a thread of heads breaking down the career trajectory and best releases.
