I'm really liking the Mickey Haller series (The Lincoln Lawyer, The Brass Verdict, The Reversal and The Fifth Witness so far). There is some overlap between Bosch and Haller in the novels, because *spoiler* we learn they are half brothers. Is he much of a figure in the streaming series?

No but the first season of The Lincoln Lawyer is dropping on Netflix in a couple of weeks

Watching Reacher before starting Bosch was a mistake, I keep hoping for him to go sicko mode and he hasn’t really done that since throwing the bad captain through a window.

it mildly grinds me that his dog is called coltrane but he never listens to coltrane -- it's always plangently melancholy late-nite old-times-were-best spot-the-tune jazz

which is fine, i like it too, but just sometimes he shd throw on interstellar space

i like maddie, not a great actress if i'm being "objective" but she captures a lot of mannerisms i see in my daughter so she is capturing "something." looking forward to more honey chandler in the new series!

I’m thinking “hmm, ok I can deal with this” so far, but then the credits hit and wtf is this theme song

yeah the title sequence visually is a decent successor to the orig but the music is a hard miss
4 episodes in this just feels like a more or less natural S8 vs a reboot S1
not bad, still waiting to see where it goes
as a resident just love the location shooting, always on point, Maddie running around the Hollywood Reservoir just makes me think of my own jaunts around there

William Devane! One of the first 'character' actors who ever made an impression on me as the villain in Hitchcock's Family Plot, which I saw at the cinema when I was ten or so. Great to hear he's still working.

Also, William Devane post-Kennedy career to me is his turn on 24 as Sec of Defense/POTUS/Dementia patient, 24 is also the last series i went this deep into late seasons. hmmmmmm.....

I'm reading Connelly's second Jack McEvoy novel The Scarecrow (2009) right now. The first was The Poet (1996), one of Connelly's most memorable books. He has said he doesn't love delving into McEvoy because "he is easily the most autobiographical character I have ever written about"

McEvoy is an investigative journalist and also appears in the Bosch/McCaleb novel A Darkness More Than Night (2001) and along with Bosch in the Mickey Haller novel The Brass Verdict (2008). Connelly also wrote a third novel featuring him in Fair Warning (2020), which I haven't read yet

lol finished rewatching s7 and i still don't really understand the underpinning of the new season plot but i'll just assume it's a The Big Sleep thing here it's best not to try to make the puzzle make sense and just enjoy the ride

it does feel big-sleepy! needs more orchids in a hothouse to make bosch sweat uneasily

i'd love more flirty scenes a la Dorothy Malone's bookstore clerk and the horny female cab driver but Bosch is way too leathery and stolid to pull that off. that's why i would love a Santiago spinoff with him and the punky bartender getting some real screentime.

(this version is bad and boring) (og law and order had some entertaining characters now and then i guess in the 00s, this doesn't have that either)

the procedural drama in the o/g series was hardly sparkling or boldly original but legacy REALLY misses it: hours of the newly minted PI and his high-end lawyer foe-chum tippytoeing round warehouses and whatnot to catch the crims at it is NO SUBSTITUTE AT ALL

also where is maddy this ep, i dont even love her sections but

Watched the first episode and it definitely feels like a cheap knockoff of the original. Don't give a fuck about Maddie's police training; there's already a whole procedural about that on network tv — it's called The Rookie and it's dull as shit, too. Bosch without a badge is just an old crank, and honestly I don't think the show has the budget to actually film his house sliding down the hill by season's end so I suspect that's just a distraction. Willam Devane in his wheelchair looks kind of amazingly like John McCain.
