i kinda hate maddie tho she is a p plausible daughter of her dad i guess
― mark s, Monday, 25 April 2022 19:55 (four years ago)
I like that her introduction was “I haven’t seen my daughter since she was three, she’s good I guess IDK” and then it turns out she’s somehow exactly like her father. Strong genes.

I'm really liking the Mickey Haller series (The Lincoln Lawyer, The Brass Verdict, The Reversal and The Fifth Witness so far). There is some overlap between Bosch and Haller in the novels, because *spoiler* we learn they are half brothers. Is he much of a figure in the streaming series?
― Dan S, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 00:04 (four years ago)
No but the first season of The Lincoln Lawyer is dropping on Netflix in a couple of weeks
― groovypanda, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 06:43 (four years ago)
lol i just watched the final ep w/o realising it even was the final ep, thinking "oh this incel strand wound up strangely early"
(i was pretty sleepy, maybe i slept thru the highlights)
― mark s, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 17:21 (four years ago)
(this was last night, i'm watching it again to see what i missed)
(ok turns out i hadn't watched the last ep at all, netflix must have played it to the end while the screen was off)
― mark s, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 18:02 (four years ago)
lol it's a banger
― mark s, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 18:03 (four years ago)
anyway in conclusion, bosch is a DICK
― mark s, Tuesday, 26 April 2022 19:55 (four years ago)
Watching Reacher before starting Bosch was a mistake, I keep hoping for him to go sicko mode and he hasn’t really done that since throwing the bad captain through a window.
― papal hotwife (milo z), Tuesday, 26 April 2022 20:05 (four years ago)
it mildly grinds me that his dog is called coltrane but he never listens to coltrane -- it's always plangently melancholy late-nite old-times-were-best spot-the-tune jazz
which is fine, i like it too, but just sometimes he shd throw on interstellar space
― mark s, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 08:57 (four years ago)
i like maddie, not a great actress if i'm being "objective" but she captures a lot of mannerisms i see in my daughter so she is capturing "something." looking forward to more honey chandler in the new series!
― buzza, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 09:03 (four years ago)
legacy now
hope it's a bit nippier on its pins than PICARD
― mark s, Friday, 6 May 2022 18:54 (four years ago)
maddie getting a v hard time from all the non-baby cops is funny and she deserves it bcz she annoys me

me chuckling at this spry* and toned character meant to be 90+
checking the actor: william devane, a pretty spry and toned 82 tbf (son of FDR's chauffeur, played robert kennedy in macbird in 1966)
*i mean yes he's in a wheelchair
― mark s, Friday, 6 May 2022 20:25 (four years ago)
(i am the only ilxor who's ever mentioned or maybe even thought abt macbird, a very forgotten item i imagine, which is nevertheless oddly important to me)
(nothing to do with BOSCH tho)
― mark s, Friday, 6 May 2022 20:28 (four years ago)
ok, started the first episode of the new seriesI’m thinking “hmm, ok I can deal with this” so far, but then the credits hit and wtf is this theme song
― mh, Sunday, 8 May 2022 02:46 (four years ago)
yeah the title sequence visually is a decent successor to the orig but the music is a hard miss4 episodes in this just feels like a more or less natural S8 vs a reboot S1not bad, still waiting to see where it goes as a resident just love the location shooting, always on point, Maddie running around the Hollywood Reservoir just makes me think of my own jaunts around there
― buzza, Sunday, 8 May 2022 09:32 (four years ago)
his fedora-guy sidekick isnt doing it for me, where is cheech marin when u need him
― mark s, Sunday, 8 May 2022 10:16 (four years ago)
idk i kinda like his vibe but he is a bit "low energy"
― buzza, Sunday, 8 May 2022 10:39 (four years ago)
i'm only two in maybe i'll warm to him, he seems a bit pre-formed
― mark s, Sunday, 8 May 2022 10:43 (four years ago)
he rings sort of true in a weird la way to me
― buzza, Sunday, 8 May 2022 10:52 (four years ago)
haha that could also be entirely true
― mark s, Sunday, 8 May 2022 10:58 (four years ago)
William Devane! One of the first 'character' actors who ever made an impression on me as the villain in Hitchcock's Family Plot, which I saw at the cinema when I was ten or so. Great to hear he's still working.
― Ward Fowler, Sunday, 8 May 2022 11:37 (four years ago)
he's looking great for 82!
― mark s, Sunday, 8 May 2022 11:46 (four years ago)
we get a little crate and barrel cameo in s4, as a treat
― mh, Sunday, 8 May 2022 15:02 (four years ago)
the credit sequences sucks as badly the as the song, the old one was so good :(
― mark s, Sunday, 8 May 2022 15:31 (four years ago)
lol at maddie actuallying her dad on latin pronunciation, yeah, neither of you are close
― mark s, Sunday, 8 May 2022 16:34 (four years ago)
Bosch starting to lecture Jerry on going too far… c’mon, man
― papal hotwife (milo z), Sunday, 8 May 2022 20:51 (four years ago)
*rescreening* S7 now because i don't remember anything about the new season bad guy and his connection to the failed hit on Money Chandler. Streaming/binging habits are bad for short term memories. Also, William Devane post-Kennedy career to me is his turn on 24 as Sec of Defense/POTUS/Dementia patient, 24 is also the last series i went this deep into late seasons. hmmmmmm.....
― buzza, Monday, 9 May 2022 07:57 (four years ago)
he's pretty shadowy in s7!
― mark s, Monday, 9 May 2022 08:07 (four years ago)
they recast the role of Rogers for this season, that's part of the wtf (actually it's just me and my senility)
― buzza, Monday, 9 May 2022 09:50 (four years ago)
Watching the S7 recap at the start of "Legacy". There are characters called Franzen, Chandler and... Carl Rogers?
"Carl Rogers, you're under arrest", an actual line of dialogue

I'm reading Connelly's second Jack McEvoy novel The Scarecrow (2009) right now. The first was The Poet (1996), one of Connelly's most memorable books. He has said he doesn't love delving into McEvoy because "he is easily the most autobiographical character I have ever written about"
― Dan S, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 00:01 (four years ago)
McEvoy is an investigative journalist and also appears in the Bosch/McCaleb novel A Darkness More Than Night (2001) and along with Bosch in the Mickey Haller novel The Brass Verdict (2008). Connelly also wrote a third novel featuring him in Fair Warning (2020), which I haven't read yet
― Dan S, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 00:36 (four years ago)
lol finished rewatching s7 and i still don't really understand the underpinning of the new season plot but i'll just assume it's a The Big Sleep thing here it's best not to try to make the puzzle make sense and just enjoy the ride
― buzza, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 09:24 (four years ago)
it does feel big-sleepy! needs more orchids in a hothouse to make bosch sweat uneasily
― mark s, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 09:29 (four years ago)
i'd love more flirty scenes a la Dorothy Malone's bookstore clerk and the horny female cab driver but Bosch is way too leathery and stolid to pull that off. that's why i would love a Santiago spinoff with him and the punky bartender getting some real screentime.
― buzza, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 09:36 (four years ago)
has there ever been a good or interesting take on the russian gangster as the new mafia concept ?
(this version is bad and boring) (og law and order had some entertaining characters now and then i guess in the 00s, this doesn't have that either)
― mark s, Friday, 13 May 2022 17:55 (four years ago)
the procedural drama in the o/g series was hardly sparkling or boldly original but legacy REALLY misses it: hours of the newly minted PI and his high-end lawyer foe-chum tippytoeing round warehouses and whatnot to catch the crims at it is NO SUBSTITUTE AT ALL
also where is maddy this ep, i dont even love her sections but
― mark s, Sunday, 15 May 2022 14:05 (four years ago)
Watched the first episode and it definitely feels like a cheap knockoff of the original. Don't give a fuck about Maddie's police training; there's already a whole procedural about that on network tv — it's called The Rookie and it's dull as shit, too. Bosch without a badge is just an old crank, and honestly I don't think the show has the budget to actually film his house sliding down the hill by season's end so I suspect that's just a distraction. Willam Devane in his wheelchair looks kind of amazingly like John McCain.
― but also fuck you (unperson), Sunday, 15 May 2022 14:12 (four years ago)
lol baby bosch is in this flashback ep and he's a belligerent prick
(good casting tho tbh)
― mark s, Friday, 20 May 2022 17:32 (four years ago)
show frantic to have it both ways re bad-apple cops and not in a deft or an interesting way really
― mark s, Friday, 20 May 2022 17:42 (four years ago)
So if enjoyed Bosch non-legacy version but don't really care about the Bosch extended universe, should I put legacy in my viewing queue? most comments ITT are on the negative side...
― that's not my post, Friday, 20 May 2022 19:48 (four years ago)
not really feeling it adds anything tbh
i will watch the series out probably bcz who wants to be left hanging but
― mark s, Friday, 20 May 2022 20:01 (four years ago)
its bad and the theme song is bad
― adam, Saturday, 21 May 2022 00:02 (four years ago)
ima still watch it tho
TY. Think I’ll spend my limited TV time elsewhere and enjoy the memories from the original series.
