what happens in redactle when you have something like "XXX, 000"? or things that are obviously years?

You can keep guessing the unit before and after commas if you want but don’t think it’s a very worthwhile use of a guess. I did wonder similar when I thought the point of the game was to fill every blank rather than just get the title.

I got today’s in 29 but once I’d got it I realised I really should have got it sooner.

never would've got that without looking it up, not a part of history i'm familiar with. i ended up getting the song title at the end and that had a connection to the article title, almost...

although it now occurs to me that alba was talking about 'yesterday's' redactle, given that it changes like mid-afternoon.

Oh yes, I was talking about The Washington Post, which I should have got sooner after spotting D.C. on my eight go, but I forgot about newspapers for some reason despite working for one

(i looked at the source, there's a gamelist.js which does it right - a base64 encoded list. i decoded them all, and none of them were the one i just did!)

I thought that I'd stumbled on something very smart by entering 0-9, but then that only works if those digits appear on their own, and long strings of numbers are counted as single words.

Yeah, my second Wordle fail today: I have no strategy for twin wells.

There is a strategy it's called not hard mode. But for some reason I chose to keep guessing.

I managed to guess it thanks to a little bit of luck but I'm becoming more convinced that hard mode doesn't encourage more strategic thinking.

I was considering doing a well-breaker, but then decided to go with the first thing that came to mind, and bingo!

But there were some other words that could have been better — guessing ROWDY here, for example, will usually eliminate more solutions than FRYER. And you’ve narrowed it down to one possible solution. You should solve the puzzle on your next turn.
??? (and it gave my guess a score of 0, harsh. i probably should've tried [what the actual answer was] instead of what i guessed, but it was still only one letter off, and better than the word they chose...)

i get that burning a lot of letters and ignoring your greens and yellows is probably the most "optimal" way to play, but no one plays like that. and it sounds so snobby as it shames you for not burning your second guess on an unwinnable word. fuck off wordlebot! probably would be easy to just program it to play hard mode style until it gets to a point where burning letters would make more sense - weigh winnability vs the need for a well-breaker etc

anyway today's wordle fucked a lot of people up huh, i was the only one in my immediate family who didn't get it wrong

I had prophet at 75 and it took me another 145 guesses lol, hope I won't make that mistake again.

Got it (my first full attempt) in 278 - but it should have been 165 (basic spelling error: I wrote “prophesy” - so I thought I had already tried the word, to the extent I was actually looking for clues (here I stand, the Cheater) in the Wikipedia entry in question, blissfully unaware, convinced that it would have to be something very similar…)

23! Like Alba yesterday the punctuation gave some clues - (██████ ██████ █████. ███████) looked like it could be the Latin name of some living thing, and (█)-█-███████-█████████-█,█-█████-█,█-████-█-██ suggested something chemical, so I started trying food-related words and got there pretty quick

i got all the colours in the first para quite quickly but couldn't connect the dots, went with flowers and got nowhere

damn you all for alerting me to the existence of redactle

I did yesterday’s Redactle with Kevin; as they drop at 5pm UK time, it’s a pleasant cocktail hour interlude. He got the answer ahead of me, and shamefully I kept vetoing it until he insisted.

yeah one of my favourite things about Redactle is that it refreshes at a different time to all the other *dles

same! I have the first word and I know what it is also known is, but I'm just going through everything that could be plausible for the second word and so far it's none of them

got it in the end - that was annoying

got the redactle in 120. I feel like I should have gotten in about half as many. I knew broadly in what category of thing it was pretty early thanks to some lucky guesses, but somehow couldn't quite figure it out.

I eventually got Inclined with about five minutes to go but couldn’t summon up plane. 518 guesses what a joke.

I got it in 18 after a lucky early guess of 'normal' which was clearly used in a geometrical sense. And the previous one in 44, I guessed 'sun' after I heard it in a cartoon my kids were watching, which revealed something being 'in ____ sun', clearly 'full' and therefore plant related.

today's Redactle features a reference to a landmark that's in the scheme I grew up in!

yeah, lots of maths in the inclined plane one and was helped slightly by the "An" before it in the first line which narrows it down to starting with a vowel. should've got it earlier tbh. the subscript confused me for a while. and the formatting glitches in the middle.

that's odd in redactle #16, it says there are two instances of artist but only one shows up when you click on it
