lol the entire franchise is now contorted to establish musk as someone who matters in its own past history

they shd go back in time and kill baby elon (he's a baby however old he is)

mark s, Friday, 15 April 2022 18:18 (two years ago) link

this deep space narnia shit is childishly bad sorry if this offends

mark s, Friday, 15 April 2022 18:27 (two years ago) link

omg this is boring garbage

mark s, Friday, 15 April 2022 18:53 (two years ago) link

the ending of this episode was so pointless and annoying

i liked the rest of it for the most part but just like, boring contrived earth shenanigans to drag the earth stuff out & fracture the group as much as possible interminably is the worst, i hate it every single time unless there are whales involved

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 15 April 2022 19:32 (two years ago) link

dragged-out time spent on earth >>>>>>>>>>>> dragged-out time spent in jlp's MIND AS A CHILD >:(

mark s, Friday, 15 April 2022 19:43 (two years ago) link

whatsapp conflab re picard

whatsapper 1: Picard has been enormously divisive amongst ST long term investors
whatsapper 1: And hint is that it is full on sliding to derided
mark s: s1 was a silly mess but it was also reasonably exciting
whatsapper 2: S3 of Picard has had a trail announcing basically all of TNG cast except for Wesley in it
whatsapper 3: I thought TNG was The Night Garden for a second which would be much better. Good old MakkaPakka
mark s: i wonder a bit how much my not enjoying it is bcz i am so very spotty in TNG lore (eg there's possibly a big FIRST CONTACT (1996) callback) (as well as to the whale movie). FIRST CONTACT but its the ppl of the night garden wd be a solid twist tbf

mark s, Saturday, 16 April 2022 13:33 (two years ago) link

except the ppl of the night garden are 💯the borg

mark s, Saturday, 16 April 2022 13:34 (two years ago) link

your whatsapp person who thinks Wesley is a character of note in TNG is RONG

mh, Saturday, 16 April 2022 14:18 (two years ago) link

I still think he should come back in one of these damn shows though, he's a fucking time traveller now he can come back to any of them!

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 18 April 2022 06:01 (two years ago) link

(and also I do feel bad for how shat on Weaton was by TNG)

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 18 April 2022 06:01 (two years ago) link

Roffle

The big satisfying reveal in Picard is going to be that Dr. Soong based his face on a weird head he dug up in San Francisco.

raffi sucks so hard. i might even prefer neelix

mookieproof, Friday, 22 April 2022 17:37 (two years ago) link

I don’t MIND her but her whole vibe is Ray Winstone’s character from the fourth Indiana Jones movie, the alleged friend and colleague of many years with a dynamic that forces that issue instead of reflecting it.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 April 2022 17:41 (two years ago) link

i think her being a counterpoint to Seven makes her suckiness even more pronounced

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 22 April 2022 17:50 (two years ago) link

It was kind of dumb, but the scene where Seven tossed a glass bottle on the ground to see what it felt like was funny
‘hmm yeah, that made me feel something. she’s chasing endorphins”

mh, Friday, 22 April 2022 20:03 (two years ago) link

it was but she shd have tossed a second bottle as they left the scene and like shivered or something

mark s, Friday, 22 April 2022 22:29 (two years ago) link

maybe at raffi

mark s, Saturday, 23 April 2022 17:20 (two years ago) link

Q is annoying but he's right abt humans (these ones)

ears pricked up when he said "i prepared myself to be enveloped in the warm glow of memeing" (but he said "meaning", so as you were, the show remains shitpost-free)

mark s, Saturday, 23 April 2022 17:28 (two years ago) link

Should I bother with this season? Seemed like y’all were into it initially… maybe not so much now

Chuck_Tatum, Saturday, 23 April 2022 19:21 (two years ago) link

I think if you're willing to stop watching after episode 4, maybe, because that seems to be the traditional shark jumping point.

Not that the script was much help, but this season is at least teaching me that Brent Spiner is not a very good actor, at least when it comes to drama.

Born Sleeepy (Nuxx) (Leee), Saturday, 23 April 2022 20:24 (two years ago) link

ditto sirpatstew imo :(

mark s, Saturday, 23 April 2022 20:29 (two years ago) link

shouty faustian spiner is ..not great
but i think he’s a good actor normally? having to be a robot for that long surely does something to your sense of the dramatic idk

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 23 April 2022 23:04 (two years ago) link

i feel like oldpatstew is just being old & delivering lines vs being old & being picard & delivering lines

its a bit like he’s going to ask when’s dinner or when will my granddaughter be visiting etc

i feel mean saying that bc i love him

despite everything i still kinda like this season. it’s not driving me to drink like Discovery did with its feelings

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 23 April 2022 23:07 (two years ago) link

How dare you criticize THE FEELS. (This may explain a certain generational split in the fandom I've noticed, but kinda hoping Strange New Worlds is the sop for the rest of us.)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 23 April 2022 23:34 (two years ago) link

indeed! i am not ashamed to say i am kind of putting all of my hopes on captain pike & crew to do what disco could not. i mean there was so much unpacking they could have charged a per episode copay

we shall see

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 24 April 2022 00:21 (two years ago) link

yeah unfortunately i think sirpatstew may be beyond it at this point. no shame; he is 81 ffs

worried that season 3 will demonstrate that all of them are beyond it

mookieproof, Sunday, 24 April 2022 01:16 (two years ago) link

he is 81 ffs

but the paymasters are still willing to cut the cheque and so... excelsior!

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Sunday, 24 April 2022 03:52 (two years ago) link

Well that was a lot.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 April 2022 19:20 (two years ago) link

why does the BQ consider the word bullshit a "colloquialism", she has assimilated and shares the sensibility of millions who say it all the time

mark s, Friday, 29 April 2022 17:30 (two years ago) link

tbf i wd be traumatised if these twits were my parents

mark s, Friday, 29 April 2022 17:32 (two years ago) link

"BTW didn't I have a brother?"

Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 April 2022 17:35 (two years ago) link

I did however appreciate that while I was thinking "Hold on didn't he see his mother in that first season TNG episode?" he then specifically mentions the memories he constructed of her which applied to that very episode.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 April 2022 17:36 (two years ago) link

laris: "think faster jean-luc!"
the viewers: "do everything faster ffs"

mark s, Friday, 29 April 2022 17:40 (two years ago) link

ok well that involved a lot of everyone expaining what love is to everyone else

mark s, Friday, 29 April 2022 18:13 (two years ago) link

it's grief without perseverance

mookieproof, Friday, 29 April 2022 19:48 (two years ago) link

iirc love has been explained enough already by Alannah Myles

PICARD s2 (2022) needed more of this energy and wisdom imo

mark s, Friday, 29 April 2022 21:51 (two years ago) link

agree

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 29 April 2022 22:32 (two years ago) link

Well, that was a season finale.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 5 May 2022 20:59 (two years ago) link

First season, I bailed after 4 episodes. This season, I bailed after 2 episodes. Judging by comments, I made the right decision again.

adam t. (abanana), Thursday, 5 May 2022 21:22 (two years ago) link

i guess i’m glad wil wheaton got thrown a bone — it sounds like he got shafted by rick berman et al back in the day — but watching him act is just painful

mookieproof, Thursday, 5 May 2022 23:05 (two years ago) link

It was, how you say, just enough.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 May 2022 00:49 (two years ago) link

xp fair, but keep that away from my show

also, they divorced it completely from the plot so lol

mh, Friday, 6 May 2022 03:01 (two years ago) link

I will finish it but yeah that episode inside Picard's head urrrrgh

Now I'll admit I've only seen stray TNG but not only does an emotionally repressed Men Would Rather Explore Space Than Go To Therapy Picard feel out of character, surely medical advances would have been sufficient by the time of Picard's childhood that his mum wouldn't have to be kept in some gothic basement because of her depression like it's the 19th century? The show's insistence on portraying Picard's childhood as being the early 20th century drives me up the wall.
