yeah this is a totally fun idea! i would be into it! i honestly do make good pulled pork, and good beef brisket!

and i can honestly make ribs - tho theyd be braised not bbqd :/

did you check out the menu at the tavern room at gt, max? i really do think that could be a good option. even if there is a wait, it's a lot more civilized than the bar crush at some places.

oh, if you asked me then i didn't notice! sorry. it's not prix fixe. the dining room is. tavern room is first come, first seated with a nice menu that goes up to the mid-20s for entrees. the current menu is on their site.

(stuffed meatball is outrageous.)

is michael anthony's gt appreciably better than it was when i had lunch in the prior era and it was totally forgettable? it is, cos he is a blue hill guy, rite?

it's not like i've been there a lot, but i've had meals before and since the changeover, and the food is so much better.

i wouldn't have recommended it under the old regime.

if you want a more hip atmosphere, though, then it might not be the place. it's not stuffy, but it is... i guess classic would be a good word. all things considered, i think if you liked blue hill then you'd like gt.

who's been to Aunt Suzie's in the slope? forget if i've asked before. it seems so nice and homey.

Clinton Street Baking Company has a special: $10 for a burger and a beer every night from 6-8. You pay extra for fries but the burger comes with home made potato chips so you really won't need the fries. It's a really good burger--better than Dumont I think.

Aunt Suzie's? I don't think anyone really thinks their food is good. They have longevity, but little else. Better alternatives would be Franny's, Peperoncino, Anthony's, or Bar Tonno. Of course, Al di la is the gold standard for Italian in Park Slope, though it's not typical red-sauce Italian.

disappointing. i'm a sucker for their schtick. peperoncino is surprisingly good. i haven't been to al di la yet. i imagine it's wonderful, but i have yet to find a standby red-sauce place, so i'm on the search for that first and foremost.

Haven't been very adventurous about eating options in "south Kensington" since I moved, but Sietsema reviewed this Azerbaijani/Russian place a stone's throw from my apartment. Who would join me for jiz biz and lamb's balls stew?

Yep, they have the burger at brunch, lunch and dinner, but it's $14 on it's own. So the burger+beer thing is a really good deal, like almost half the regular price. Also, on Tuesday nights all bottles of wine are 1/2 price and they are actually pretty reasonable to begin with--mostly under $30.

so i am too lazy to read this whole thread, but let me tell you, the best restaurant in NYC is el taqueria y fonda on 108th st and amsterdam.

i also like the dominican place near me that advertises itself as "friend chicken!!!" & has flashy lights.

I have heard that Joya is good for Thai (it's on Court St. in what I guess is Cobble Hill - sorry for using "BoCoCa" earlier, I just really don't know the boundaries yet)

Turns out it wasn't that good, actually. Mediocre food in good lighting. But it's a cheap way to get that "goin out in the big city" feeling.

i want to reiterate to everyone again for the 100th time JUST HOW MUCH i hate Sea in williamsburg. it ruins my day approximately 4 times per week.

joya, sadly, is the best thai (to my knowledge) in bo co ca.
