Semantle: Can you think like a computer?

Got it in 67. Had lots of greens with words like stymie, frustrate, derail, thwart. Then 'lose' was a high green, so I tried the old antonym switcheroo with 'win' which was even higher, and it was quick from there.

When is this game going to give me a break? What can stumble, hope, die, however, disappear, draw, belief, court, strong possibly have in common?

Got in in 318 with much thesaurus help after stumbling on my first >900 score, happen, in guess 293. Much respect to anyone who can get this in under 200, let alone 100!

Went down the route of legal, quadrangle and circle as my first green word was court but was a dead end until pursue on guess 55 and it was fairly straightforward from then.

I never normally use a thesaurus but I was determined not to give up on this since I had so many close greens! So on about guess 420 I broke my rule and consulted one.

Easy in that synonyms lead in a fairly unbroken chain to the next leap (and there were a couple).

I did come at it from a different path than you are on: rise>arise>continue>uphold>persevere was my basic path with a lot of synonyms in between.

I solved Semantle in 36 guesses. my first green word was fight (guess #12, 572/1000), and I continued in a combative mode for a while (with green words like "compete", "argue", "oppose, "wrestle") before hitting upon "persist" (990/1000) on my 31st guess. from there it was a fairly painless path from "continue" to "persevere" to "endure" to the secret word

Three guesses! Is fruit one of your starter words?

It would flatter my game to pretend I have anything as organised as starter words - I just blunder in and try and cast the net as widely as I can, mixing up nouns and adjectives mostly. First guess was “poor”, then “fruit” - cue near total paralysis while I consider best options for guess #3!

After playing this game for a few months now, knocking over Semantle in under a minute is definitely a “fucks with the fabric of time” experience.

I got it in 88 - got sidetracked a little bit by farming/grain-related guesses: my early greens were "wheat", "rye", "corn", "cereal". changed tack and went down the bakery route which let me to "dessert" and "fruit" to the target word.

Sadly, it's because I thought "oh, I'd better check the semantle mod thread in case someone posted about spoilers, then I'll know to avoid the main semantle thread until I've done it myself". But the spoiler was coming from inside the thread. (Basically, ledge posted fruits and then I tried the most obvious one I could think of, and it was the right one.)

Ha, it's fine really, just a bit of an amusing accident.

Oh, and seeing as there have now been 50 games since stats started recording, anyone fancy sharing their stats? Despite the statistical outlier today, I am still on 132.74 as my average number of guesses, which I suspect is higher than most of you. However, since recording I have not given up once, nor failed to finish. I am persistent.

I'm 122 on desktop, around 115 iirc on mobile aka weekend games, I have given up a few times which obviously brings those down a bit.

Give-ups don't affect your average, which is no. of guesses divided by no. of games played (incl. give-ups).

so if you're a giver upper you'll have a lower average than someone who hammers on beyond 400 guesses.

That was painful. I had 987/1000 at guess 6, and 998/1000 at guess 30. And yet I didn't strike FOUND until guess 77. Almost gave up there, having basically run out of synonyms.

This one clearly shows the sports bias in semantle. I mean when I think of today's word, I think more of books, songs, movies etc
