I solved Semantle #65 in 68 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -1.94. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #2. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 37.89 (920/1000).

Found it in 118, took me 53 guesses to get green and I had to use the thesaurus to get over the line - i had 995/1000 and knew it would be something close to that but couldn't dredge it out of my early morning brain, and lost patience.

do you make considered guesses or just type whatever pops into your heads? I realize I just guess a lot of things without the goal of getting the answer in the shortest number of tries. Maybe that's why I'm at guess #381 and close but ... just not getting it

I have about 5-15 words I use right out of the gate to see if anything pops. Also I’ve noticed generic words like “give” or “carry” often work best to get pointed in the right direction.

Sitting on a top of 960 ('school') forever, had completely run out of educational things and was about to pull the plug - then somehow stumbled on 'basketball' and it was easy from there. Don't really associate educational institutions with sport so heavily, but I guess this is more a US thing.

my 1st green was 'school' on my 25th guess and it took a lot of guesses connected with teaching, training, learning and the providers and recipients of same before I thought "they do sports at school" and guessed 'sports' for guess 100.

26. A nice one today. I too always have sport as one of my early guesses so it was just a bit of tootling round the concept to get there.

I've been feeling as though I should maybe change when I play as I have resorted to thesaurus cheating a couple of times lately, when my brain just hasn't been awake enough to dredge up certain words. But maybe I should just resist the temptation instead. Grr.

Gave up, despite many greens. But looking at the answer, I don't think I would have got it, I was too stuck on an angle that was giving me all those greens, but was ultimately all wrong. I had 'disappointment' which was 994/1000, and a whole string of similar words also in the green: dismay, chagrin, letdown, setback etc.

Solved in 199 - up until about 150 I was derailed by a bunch of very abstract greens all leading nowhere - though, why, reason, however.

I got caught up in multiple green strands that didn't really help me and also found it tough to narrow down the part of speech the word was in, so I had a lot of variations of the same word all in green. I will admit that when I got it I did kick myself for not thinking of it before, though.
