Dominic Raab's #pmqs attack on Angela Rayner and Labour for Jeremy Corbyn's stance on Russia and defence foreshadows Tories' plans for the next election. Senior Labour figures talk of "long Corbyn" worries - more to come in an updated version of #brokenheartlands later this year.

Loool. Starmer and other senior Labour figures made their shit-filled bed, now they'll enjoy lying in it

they'd rather take a mendacious attack from the tories on the chin and show their willingness to launch nukes and troops "under their new management" (which isn't actually new any more), rather than hit back with Corbyn was always a bigger Putin critic than the tories and Blair. And if they think briefing Torygraph lobby hacks about their long corbynism concerns is a winning strategy, then lol they are so fucked!

Truss also tackled on @BBCRadio4 on the executions of 81 men at the weekend, the war in Yemen, and murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

"I'm not condoning every action by the Saudi government,” she says, but "we do need to work with countries we don't agree with".

So the Con Party's strategy to attack Labour, in an election in c.2023-4, is to make false complaints about ... Jeremy Corbyn, who was leader until 2 years ago and is no longer a Labour MP.

Agree with the critical comments on this above, ie: it's all the fault of mendacious KS et al.

The tories will continue to use him as evidence that Labour are dangerous radicals, for the left he'll stay a reminder of what could have been and that we shouldn't settle for soft torys like the current leadership. Strategic genius there from Keith & Co.

good to see that gnarly little ugly bastard getting brought to book. But still ultimately the slander he committed in previous years helped to achieve the goal of causing great damage to Corbyn's reputation. It would have been better if he had got rinsed in court a few times at the time rather than after the game is over.

sorry to bring back the movie Martin Eden to thread, but it is one of the best movies of the last decade. And there is a bit where the titular Herbert Spencer loving protagonist of the movie has his sailor contract unceremoniously terminated by the ship owner after engine problems. It's based on a 1909 novel but makes u think - some things don't change, eh?

good lord, just seen that pic of Cameron at the foodbank. It's enough to make you want to commit violent homicide. Frequently I get very polite Tory looking good Samaritans from the local foodbank calling at the door on Sunday with a carrier bag of food. And it's not like the farmers' market quality stuff you see in the Cameron foodbank pic, like nice looking butternut squashes and bunches of spring onions. This might sound a bit decadent but last time I wanged most of it straight in the bin. Out of date coco pops, oranges well past their best and tins of smart price spaghetti hoops - no thanks! The sourdough loaf was good though.

Lots of posturing from right-wingers to come this afternoon.

How can we live in a country where the average house price is now £350,000, the average salary is £38,600 and the average deposit is £58,986?

Colville’s going on about it too.

It’s very easy to say ‘houses are too expensive’, much harder to say ‘the value of your property should fall to a point at which it’s affordable for someone without a £60k deposit’, so we will keep going round in circles.

It’s surprisingly difficult to find the Labour response to Sunak’s statement, other than a few soundbites about the Tories being the ‘party of high taxation’ and a suggested one-off windfall tax on energy companies. Is that all there is?

Will the tax cuts be enough to offset the pain a lot of people might be going through? Haven't really seen much on it but my reflex is to say its all about volumes affected. Austerity was accepted as it only made the poorest worse.
