was hoping it'd be some Marlon Brando sounding guy singing "star warrrr, sta-aa-aar warrrrrs, sta-staaaa-aa-aaar warrrs, sta-aa-arrr wars" to the original theme

still haven't finished Fett, mostly because I've never given a fuck about Boba Fett, but I'll get around to it. much more excited for this one, as Obi-Wan deserves a nice reclamation project after what they did to him in the prequels.

Just jump to the last three episodes of Fett or, hell, just the last one.

Not caring about Fett before watching seems to be the easiest path to enjoyment. Watch them all. It's a great series.

I just need a weekend where I can actually sit and watch hours of something, and this one might just be it!

surfjan otm, that was me — i love star wars but i have never ever given more than two shits about boba fett & i enjoyed the show a lot, chill vibe appreciated imo

two weeks pass...

Almost skipped Book of Boba Fett until I found out it ties in to Mandalorian, so good job Star Wars for forcing me to watch everything you make a la Marvel. But it was quite enjoyable! Yes it's ridden with cliches but this was easily as entertaining as the last season of Mando (I mean, it is Mando for half the season). I feel like SW has gotten into a good groove lately, will certainly watch Obi-Wan

You don't like it, there's the (An)door

Gymnopédie Pablo (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 25 May 2022 15:06 (four years ago)

Right, Obi-Wan then.

not really a spoiler but just wanted to note that this show’s opening scene was extremely unfortunate, given recent events :/

Roz, Friday, 27 May 2022 15:06 (four years ago)

Quite, but here we are, sadly.

But phew...hell of a start overall, those two episodes. And canny bastards they got where nearly all of the trailer scenes were from these two episodes.

And of course the one character there wasn't a hint of at all.

And in terms of the featured cast...how you say, a guy known for other things a little more than acting, though obviously has done some acting already. I literally went "Wait is THAT...?!"

Ned Raggett, Friday, 27 May 2022 16:57 (four years ago)

@ned i lol’d and i want that action figure

Its big ball chunky time (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Saturday, 28 May 2022 04:44 (four years ago)

Especially if they make a variant with his more well known persona, only substituting a strapped-on lightsaber for a sock.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 28 May 2022 04:45 (four years ago)

(And seeing the name in the familiar end credits font/backdrop absolutely did my brain in.)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 28 May 2022 04:45 (four years ago)

Also lol i thought the same thing re: action playset

yeah man that was a NO WAY moment

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 28 May 2022 04:58 (four years ago)

Hahah.

"So you want to join our jizz band."

"Well, duh."

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 28 May 2022 04:58 (four years ago)

That Andor trailer, BTW, looks pretty fucking amazing. The building out of the Star Wars universe step by step keeps being interesting to me. (Also in how things can start to interconnect: the start of the first Obi-Wan episode also had me going "Hmm and elsewhere in the same building at the same time a little green alien kid is watching his protectors die...")

Worth noting in light of The Acolyte apparently being the first filmed version of the High Republic years that the next publishing initiative announced will be about a hundred years before said time in turn.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 28 May 2022 05:00 (four years ago)

Anyway, Obi-Wan and the big character reveal we didn't know about beforehand: awesome. She is GOOD. What a smart way to bring the character back. (Even if, as others have noted, that kinda makes her later holographic message to the titular character seem a little stilted...)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 28 May 2022 05:04 (four years ago)

also if she hung out w him so much back in the day as a kid… how come when she’s grown she only talks to him as her dad’s war buddy? 🤔

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 28 May 2022 05:58 (four years ago)

I dug it, but that chase scene in the forest was the cheesiest thing.

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Saturday, 28 May 2022 06:11 (four years ago)

xpost Exactly my implication, you see. :-D

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 28 May 2022 06:19 (four years ago)

Hey if you're being chased in a forest by a rock star, is it cheese or their latest video?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 28 May 2022 06:20 (four years ago)

i wish they had released that 5 minute recap theatrically back in the day, sparing me the disappointment of three entire prequels

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 28 May 2022 06:23 (four years ago)

It was interesting seeing all that with wholly new not-John Williams music over it that also worked. It really changed the emphasis of a lot of it!

I think 'us' as older fans coming to terms with how a younger generation has had the prequels, and then the Clone Wars et al as further supplements, as part and parcel of the whole story in their experience really is kinda key. A 51 year old like me just experienced what 'Star Wars' is supposed to be in a much different fashion.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 28 May 2022 06:26 (four years ago)

much better less boring fashion
the younger generation can keep their galactic taxation sagas imo

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 28 May 2022 06:37 (four years ago)

McGregor the only good thing about this for me. That precocious little kid and her awkward line readings? The unfunny Kumail Nanjani? Flea? No thanks. Pretty bad, I thought.

Also SW takes place in the batteries not included universe, apparently

Is Lola a flying Sony Discman?

Gymnopédie Pablo (Neanderthal), Saturday, 28 May 2022 14:00 (four years ago)

lol how was I thinking “hey, I recognize that guy!“ the whole time and not recognizing Flea

mh, Saturday, 28 May 2022 14:45 (four years ago)

That was me too

and yes my teen son knows the prequels much better than he knows eps 4-6 and is super stoked for this, for him mcgregor is the real obiwan

Guayaquil (eephus!), Saturday, 28 May 2022 19:38 (four years ago)

is this Hong Kong planet the place OW was buzzing around with Anakin at the start of episode 2?

if i goes on Wookiepedia I'll be up all night

maf you one two (maffew12), Sunday, 29 May 2022 01:20 (four years ago)

ep 1 a mixed bag for me, the lead bad guy was menacing enough, the kid made it pretty hard to watch, obi-wan actually a pretty boring character? probably a nil-all draw i guess, will invest in ep 2 (who am i kidding, if I watched the boba fett show i will watch anything with the SW logo)

lemmy incaution (emsworth), Sunday, 29 May 2022 02:47 (four years ago)

also was bracing for vader’s “noooooo” in the recap- disappointed it was omitted- is this revisionism?

lemmy incaution (emsworth), Sunday, 29 May 2022 04:20 (four years ago)

obi-wan actually a pretty boring character?

well he’s being played by ewan mcgregor so

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 29 May 2022 08:52 (four years ago)

recognised Flea Immediately. Have his memoir around somewhere, not read it yet.

Was trying to think how long ago the prequels were since this was set 10 years after. & how things tie in with other SW spinoffs timeline.
So this is handy

Stevolende, Sunday, 29 May 2022 09:47 (four years ago)

gonna keep watching obvs, but this show is pretty bad imo

Think the kid is doing the best she could, but in true SW tradition, her lines feel like they were written by people who have never met an actual child before.

Kumail Nanjaini v distracting and not in a good way - he's one of those actors where I can't really see him as any other character but himself. took me right out. and it's never quite explained why his character suddenly decided to help obi-wan? i mean he says why, but they never gave us an actual reason to trust him so it was like... huh??

also if the inquisitors can just read minds, why even bother threatening people to give up the location of jedis?

and yeah the chase sequences were hilarious - again, I have a feeling no one on the set has ever worked with children before, because those scenes where Leia's being chased by an adult that's pretending very hard they can't catch up with her just looked soooo goofy lol

the good: McGregor (pretty much carrying this whole thing) and Flea (RIP). Jimmy Smits/Bail Organa = only good dad in the galaxy.

Reva and the other Inquisitors are also being saddled with bad dialogue but overall, ok. I'm assuming the Grand Inquisitor isn't actually dead - seems like a waste to cast Rupert Friend and not utilise his action skills

Roz, Sunday, 29 May 2022 11:24 (four years ago)

oooh the one actor I didn’t recognise: Benny Safdie as the other Jedi o_O

great, now I’m wishing the Safdies had their own Star Wars show lol

Roz, Sunday, 29 May 2022 12:10 (four years ago)

and it's never quite explained why his character suddenly decided to help obi-wan?

this worked for me, seemed clear nanjaini's character is not a garden-variety hive-of-scum-and-villainy criminal but a weirdo jedi stan who never thought he'd encounter the real mccoy/gregor
