wow at the flyers re-signing ristolainen for 5 x $5.1

that’s some jack johnson shit, plus 50% more expensive

mookieproof, Thursday, 10 March 2022 19:05 (four years ago)

Yeah, this franchise is insane. They have no idea what they are doing. I used to live and die with that team. I’ve watched maybe five total periods this year.

By advanced statistics, Ristolainen is one of the worst dmen in the league period, not just for his salary.

They have Gritty tho

tobo73, Thursday, 10 March 2022 21:53 (four years ago)

Gritty is the best thing they've done since 2004.

Sorokin is good.

i was in d.c. for work earlier this week and was in the crowd when ovi scored 767 to overtake jagr for 3rd all time. pretty wild to witness!

can anyone explain what is happening here? the kid's right skate on his first few strides if you look closely the toe of his skate is where the heel should be. how can anyone skate like that?

What the hell did I just watch ? This is disgusting

fuck. sorry for reposting the thing lol

Half Japanese Breakfast (outdoor_miner), Saturday, 19 March 2022 17:54 (four years ago)

it's like if you were running with one of your feet backwards. i've watched it like a dozen times and still can't figure out how he does that or why

Half Japanese Breakfast (outdoor_miner), Saturday, 19 March 2022 18:03 (four years ago)

if you're skilled enough i think you can corner better that way -- i've seen mcdavid occasionally do it -- but don't know how you'd generate power

mookieproof, Saturday, 19 March 2022 18:06 (four years ago)

kind of like how, with four-wheel steering, when turning at speed the wheels point in the same direction but when turning slowly they point in the opposite direction

mookieproof, Saturday, 19 March 2022 18:08 (four years ago)

nice analogy. that's the amazing thing. he's doing it as he's winding up, not just a cornering move. plus, if you get hit while making that move goodbye knee IMO

Half Japanese Breakfast (outdoor_miner), Saturday, 19 March 2022 18:10 (four years ago)

Imo it's as much for agility as for power, allows for changing direction quickly and keeping the defense guessing which way you will go until you can slip by. It looks like a toe drag but with feet instead of stick and puck

Panthers going all in picking up Giroux and Chiarot

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 20 March 2022 00:19 (four years ago)

they are scary, but so is literally everyone in the east

also (sorry pbkr)

mookieproof, Sunday, 20 March 2022 00:26 (four years ago)

Ha! Seemed that way at the time, then they lost 4-1 to a middling Devils team in the next round.

I've watched maybe 5 periods of hockey this year. Organization is a travesty. I've disagreed with nearly every move they've made for years.

move over GAPDY, now there's BIG THIEF! (PBKR), Sunday, 20 March 2022 00:35 (four years ago)

might have missed something but as best i can tell all the islanders did leading up to the deadline was . . . extend 37yo zach parise (8-16-24 this year) and 34yo cal clutterbuck (6-9-15)

jesus christ lou

between that and the *ottawa senators* sending a pick to vancouver to acquire travis fucking hamonic it feels like i personally should be applying for GM jobs

mookieproof, Monday, 21 March 2022 23:12 (four years ago)

Old man Lou showing his age there. Islanders do need to get younger but I’m not guessing it happens soon enough.

Parise had bad puck luck early in the season but he’s been fine for $750K.

Think the only thing that ends the 8+ year run of the Czikas Clutterbuck Martin line is retirement. Still really like Czikas a lot though.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 22 March 2022 00:56 (four years ago)

vegas is really shitting the bed

yes they've had a lot of injuries but so have a bunch of other more successful teams who aren't in such a pathetic division

mookieproof, Thursday, 24 March 2022 03:06 (four years ago)

you hate to see it

The defector article about them trying to pull a tampa w the salary cap and LTIR and having it backfire was illuminating

kinda wondering just how many shots pete de boer gets

i guess he did take san jose to the finals, which no one else has done, let alone with martin jones in goal

old-time hockey

Leon Draisaitl is the first NHL player to have a hat trick and a plus-minus of -4 or worse in the same game since Toronto's John Anderson on January 12, 1983.

last night, maybe the goofiest goal i've ever seen:

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Tuesday, 29 March 2022 19:59 (four years ago)

Pretty brutal way for Chicago to lose with 12 seconds to go. Pretty sure most goalies would have that same reaction.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 29 March 2022 21:18 (four years ago)

I cackled loudly @ the hawks when I saw that result, ngl

mookieproof, Thursday, 14 April 2022 18:36 (four years ago)

RIP Mike Bossy - probably my all-time fave player, and maybe the best pure goal scorer ever. If injuries didn’t end his career after ten years, he could have ended up with more than Gretzky.
