Actually, he was a lot more sportsmanlike than the average Australian cricketer. He expressed his disapproval of the 1981 underarm bowling incident and, on another occasion, told the umpire that a snick from Derek Randall had not carried, even though the umpire had already given Randall out and he was on his way back to the pavilion.

I read that he held the team record for most beers downed on the long-haul flight to the UK for an ashes series. Which seems quite characteristically Australian (or British tbf).

Much loved Tasmanian batsman David Boon is said to have claimed the record of 52 beers consumed on Australia's plane trip to London ahead of the 1989 Ashes series

His two most recent albums were great, made with an incredible band: Bill Frisell on guitar, Jason Moran on piano, Thomas Morgan on bass, and Brian Blade on drums. He had two records before that with just Frisell and Blade that I need to check out.

He is a welcome presence in the Ginger Baker documentary.

In fact this album he made with Ginger Baker called Coward of the County seems like it might be good.
