My hope: Pt. 1 wraps up the pre-BB years and Pt. 2 deals with Gene in Omaha.
― Everybody Loves Ramen (WmC), Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:10 (two years ago) link
that makes a lot of sense from a structure standpoint. we haven't seen any of the other characters in omaha ... would be sad if all they all go away in the arizona component
― that's not my post, Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:19 (two years ago) link
could also be some stuff concurrent with BB, particularly what happened with Kim while all that was taking place
as much as I like the idea of doing a half-season in Omaha (and iirc they've revealed that he got recognized in the last season so there's obviously something there) you're kind of abandoning nearly your entire cast in doing that
I thought in BB Gus mentions something about wiping out the last of the Salamancas which imples that Lalo dies at some point. Or maybe he survives and Gus just thinks he's dead. idk. I was not expecting them to end the last season the way they did
― frogbs, Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:30 (two years ago) link
Yeah lalo is dead by bb season 4 guaranteed iirc the thing with the taxi driver recognising gene was he was about to go to Robert Forster again but at the last second got a steely look & was like “forget it, I’ll deal with it myself”
― chang.eng partition (wins), Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:38 (two years ago) link
ok yeah I'm trying to remember this I thought they implied the driver was from Albuquerque and recognized him because he was on TV all the time. I guess it's not really clear if people from there might've known that he was connected to the thing that was going on with Walter White at the end of BB
― frogbs, Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:43 (two years ago) link
Yeah he had some kind of New Mexico themed air freshener or something in the car, which was the cliffhanger reveal like 2 seasons ago I think lol
― chang.eng partition (wins), Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:47 (two years ago) link
Right I guess the question is if it’s someone specifically looking for him who hung that up to let him know the jig is up or if it’s just some coincidence, but that Saul is a known fugitive
― frogbs, Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:49 (two years ago) link
If you recall in the last season the guy was like “hey you’re that guy!” & then showed up at the mall next day - I think (although it’s fuzzy) it was heavily implied he was putting on some kind of squeeze but kept just this side of ambiguous
― chang.eng partition (wins), Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:53 (two years ago) link
Man I need to rewatch this seriesI would love a lot of gene stuff. The most interesting things in the other stories imo are Kim breaking bad, nacho & lalo but I love the milieu so much, give me more howard, give me fring and hector, give me all the Mike
― chang.eng partition (wins), Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:58 (two years ago) link
lol I forgot it was in New Mexico not Arizona. Too long between seasons.
― that's not my post, Thursday, 10 February 2022 20:17 (two years ago) link
I don't know what I'm hoping for specifically, but, as I've mentioned in other contexts, I like the a-ha moment that many people don't. There's no mystery proper here (like in Zodiac, for instance), so I don't know if that's possible, but some moment where the Saul you meet in Breaking Bad makes perfect sense--which means, among other things, the Saul that never so much as alludes to Kim.
― clemenza, Thursday, 10 February 2022 22:42 (two years ago) link
This was a good a-ha moment--this is what I mean.

Just saw Odenkirk on his book tour. Seems like a nice dude, but he was definitely filibustering over the interviewer with pre-canned stories, etc.

Oh man, that trailer has me hyped up. So many gorgeous shots.

looks great. can't wait for more Kim. if kim doesn't die I want a kim spin off.
― akm, Thursday, 10 March 2022 21:48 (two years ago) link
I thought that might have been Walter White walking away from the camera at the 40-second mark, but that probably makes no sense at all.
― clemenza, Thursday, 10 March 2022 22:12 (two years ago) link
wonder who's the dude at the end
hope Walter White shows up for some little bit, maybe that's too fanservicey but I'm not against them showing parts of the story that weren't in BB
― frogbs, Thursday, 10 March 2022 22:13 (two years ago) link
I hope the whole thing turns out to be a dream of Stevie Grant's from Larry Sanders, then they can work in Hank Kingsley.

Hype

someone pointed out that the dude from Breaking Bad who got his head crushed by the ATM appears in the trailer. I forgot, what was that guy's deal
― frogbs, Friday, 11 March 2022 03:33 (two years ago) link
That was the deranged couple who stole the meth from Skinny Pete...They had a 4- or 5-year-old kid living in total neglect; sad episode.
― clemenza, Friday, 11 March 2022 03:46 (two years ago) link
he wasn't connected to Saul then was he?
― frogbs, Friday, 11 March 2022 03:59 (two years ago) link
Not at all...though I think maybe Saul makes reference to what happened with the ATM.

how can I cast it to my pod?(my annotation was merely meant to be helpful to anyone who did not know this fact, to save them potential frustration on clicking.)

Didn't realize till today this was tomorrow night. I'm rewatching the last episode in advance.

Another season of rhea seehorn (and the rest of the awesome cast) works for me

I had no idea it was on this week! Thanks for the heads up

I remembered all the Lalo-related stuff pretty well from the last episode, and I also remembered Kim's chilling imitation of Jimmy in her last shot. But I'd forgotten the plan Jimmy and Kim were kicking around, so that'll probably be an early focus.
― clemenza, Monday, 18 April 2022 21:51 (two years ago) link
watching the premierethis Kim/Saul dynamic is interestingas if the image and persona are partially her working out her own bits of wish fulfillment but… Jimmy’s going to have to live it

What kind of hijinx will those crazy nut-nuts get up to this season I wonder
― DAMAGED by Black Flat (Boring, Maryland), Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:05 (two years ago) link
oh god Kim is definitely part of the formation of the Saul persona and she starts as the hardest part
― mh, Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:30 (two years ago) link
glad to see Odenkirk naked
― Deez NFTs (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:35 (two years ago) link
Too much anticipation, probably, but for me, a so-so episode. Best thing I thought was the return of the Kettlemans.
Two things that confused me: 1) The opening. I think it was supposed to evoke Citizen Kane, but was that far into the future, well beyond Breaking Bad? If it was, that's a real leap from Cinnabon; 2) All the stuff with the safe and the ID at Mike's place.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:38 (two years ago) link
Ignacio's place, I mean.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:39 (two years ago) link
1) That was Saul Goodman’s estate auction? Probably contemporary with the Cinnabon stuff where he’s assumed dead or at least missing and with debtors so they auction off his stuff2) Nacho’s place. Wheels within wheels where they needed to plant a false direction in Nacho’s safe and make sure he didn’t have anything incriminating to Gus in there. So they restocked it with the exact same items, but I think Mike pocketed the Canadian i.d. for Nacho’s dad. Bets to leave him out of it.
― mh, Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:44 (two years ago) link
the envelope is some sort of misdirection and they had to assume others knew what the safe looked like
All of that makes sense, thanks. One thing I noticed was that Hector looked Gus right in the eye; nitpicking, but that may be inconsistent with BB, where Gus always made a big deal about Hector making eye contact with him, like it was something he could never bring himself to do.
― clemenza, Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:50 (two years ago) link
It did seem very out of character, and maybe this is the time he does it (and that creepy handshake!) where he gives away the game (Lalo lives!) and he never tries it again. Gus is just too good at reading him
― mh, Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:52 (two years ago) link
Yeah but the envelope that Mike planted had the phone number of the motel Nacho was binding at, no?

-hiding-
― DAMAGED by Black Flat (Boring, Maryland), Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:53 (two years ago) link
I do appreciate the implication Fring might screw up, played out in his creepy right hand man challenging Mike and having to stand down. CRHM has a known timeline, I think
― mh, Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:54 (two years ago) link
xp maybe? That’d make no sense unless I missed something and Nacho would have a list of motels he’d hide at in his safe. I think they found the motel organically
― mh, Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:55 (two years ago) link
I’d assume the envelope would be non-obvious false leads and red herrings for Gus and Mike to use, nothing that’d play out immediately
― mh, Tuesday, 19 April 2022 03:57 (two years ago) link
No I thought the phone number of the motel was written on the paper in the envelope—the bald gangster guy (Don Juan?) calls it and hangs up when the motel answers.
