I don't remember it being a factor other than being the theme of one recent puzzle

JEDI has been in there 42 times
YODA 56 times
HAN SOLO 22 times, not to mention the related partials

Tapioca Tumbril (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 01:54 (four years ago)

HANSOLO, I meant

Tapioca Tumbril (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 01:54 (four years ago)

ARTOO 53 times!

Tapioca Tumbril (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 01:55 (four years ago)

:)

Dan S, Tuesday, 8 February 2022 01:59 (four years ago)

And then of course there is ENDOR. 29 Shortz Era appearances, 143 total, although of course it is sometimes clued as, especially in the Before Times, “Home of a Biblical witch.”

Tapioca Tumbril (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 01:59 (four years ago)

Tomorrow’s puzzle okay, but not as good as today’s.

Tapioca Tumbril (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 03:26 (four years ago)

James Redd +tB is posting from the future

Bill Kristol Meth (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 03:41 (four years ago)

(Psst, puzzle drops at 10PM on weekdays, earlier on the weekend)

Tapioca Tumbril (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 03:45 (four years ago)

Yeah and that has messed up my streak sometimes. Late in the evening, I go to what I think is current - and by default it gives me tomorrow's puzzle. Unless I check carefully, this means that I might not get credit (in this particular arbitrary and probably stupid niche-world) for today.

With a halfway-decent time machine I bet I could kick all your asses at Wordle. Anyhow carry on

Bill Kristol Meth (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 03:49 (four years ago)

I hate how much the NYT crossword leans on Star Wars shit

agreed, but at least i mostly know the star wars shit -- the harry potter shit, however

mookieproof, Tuesday, 8 February 2022 06:22 (four years ago)

feeling that post

assert (matttkkkk), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 06:37 (four years ago)

Me too. Feel like it don't see it that often but when I do it I get a litle antsy.

Tapioca Tumbril (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 14:21 (four years ago)

Should have capitalized that: ANTSY.

Tapioca Tumbril (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 14:21 (four years ago)

oh yeah, ugh @ HP stuff in xwords

donna rouge, Tuesday, 8 February 2022 17:02 (four years ago)

knowing the bare basics of all fandom is a wise research topic
though tbf i would better spend my time learning basic geography

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 19:53 (four years ago)

Ha, mistakenly thought there was a Star Trek TOS reference just now.

Ferryboat Bill Jr. (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 9 February 2022 03:27 (four years ago)

Wondering if I should come back into the fold and subscribe to Fireball once more

Ferryboat Bill Jr. (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 12 February 2022 22:05 (four years ago)

I re-upped last year, jr+tb, and the quality level of Fireball is still strong.

imam and apple pie (Ye Mad Puffin), Sunday, 13 February 2022 00:40 (four years ago)

Thanks!

Tomorrow’s puzzle seems to be late.

Solaris Ocean Blue (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 16 February 2022 03:50 (four years ago)

Gary Gets His Tonsure Out (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 2 March 2022 03:38 (four years ago)

I've been getting AVCX puzzles via email but don't know how to open them in any of the android apps I've tried (alphacross and Shortyz), any help would be appreciated.

Mobile Suit Gundam Style (Leee), Wednesday, 2 March 2022 06:09 (four years ago)

Have you emailed Ben yet?

Gary Gets His Tonsure Out (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 2 March 2022 12:43 (four years ago)

Do you need his email?

Also, friend says he uses puzzazz for those

Gary Gets His Tonsure Out (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 2 March 2022 12:47 (four years ago)

On iPad though but surely puzzazz is on Android as well

Gary Gets His Tonsure Out (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 2 March 2022 12:48 (four years ago)

Not on Android. :(

Mobile Suit Gundam Style (Leee), Wednesday, 2 March 2022 18:21 (four years ago)

Really did not want to bother with today’s theme sorry.

Mardi Gras Mambo Sun (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 10 March 2022 22:27 (four years ago)

39A was spicy here: https://www.xwordinfo.com/Crossword?date=3/4/2022

Vladimir Poutine (Leee), Thursday, 10 March 2022 22:38 (four years ago)

lol that was a good puzzle. I like that author's note too

symsymsym, Thursday, 10 March 2022 22:47 (four years ago)

Okay that one was indeed a good puzzle.

Mardi Gras Mambo Sun (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 10 March 2022 22:51 (four years ago)

'docusoap' is a no, tho

mookieproof, Thursday, 10 March 2022 22:55 (four years ago)

I never heard of it before and didn’t mind it myself that much but can see why you would.

Mardi Gras Mambo Sun (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 10 March 2022 23:17 (four years ago)

Natan Last appearance today!

Vladimir Poutine (Leee), Saturday, 12 March 2022 19:41 (four years ago)

Seems like you are his biggest fan on this thread.

Mardi Gras Mambo Sun (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 12 March 2022 20:40 (four years ago)

Anyway this puzzle today was indeed a good one.

Mardi Gras Mambo Sun (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 12 March 2022 20:40 (four years ago)

always enjoy natan last's new yorker puzzles

symsymsym, Saturday, 12 March 2022 23:39 (four years ago)

Today’s I liked

Mardi Gras Mambo Sun (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 13 March 2022 14:24 (four years ago)

And today. From Claire Rimkus and someone else I am unfamiliar with.

Mardi Gras Mambo Sun (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 19 March 2022 01:44 (four years ago)

Natan Last seems like it should be a palindrome of some sort. My first thought every single time I see that name.

Josefa, Saturday, 19 March 2022 03:11 (four years ago)

I mean an anagram. Either that or a palindrome.

Josefa, Saturday, 19 March 2022 03:13 (four years ago)

Nast T. Anal

JRN, Saturday, 19 March 2022 03:52 (four years ago)

Thank you! That must have been what I was thinking of

Josefa, Saturday, 19 March 2022 04:11 (four years ago)

Today’s puzzle was okay although I got tripped up in the Eastern Lower Center.

But really I came to say that Bob Klahn is still the greatest although I am not sure when he last published a puzzle.

Mardi Gras Mambo Sun (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 20 March 2022 16:46 (four years ago)

I definitely fall on the Rex Parker end of the continuum and thought today's was dumb, and I'm saying that as someone who enjoys puns.

Justice League: Picard (Leee), Sunday, 20 March 2022 16:54 (four years ago)

Yeah, I'm not necessarily recommending it, maybe I was just in a patient mood this morning.

Mardi Gras Mambo Sun (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 20 March 2022 16:58 (four years ago)

Isn't this the fundamental problem with having to have an opinion about the puzzle every single day? Xwords kind of depend on crosswordese and bad puns, or so it seems to me, therefore complaining about them can seem to be beside the point, unless there is a particular egregrious example, which maybe today's was, although I was immune for whatever reason. It does seem like the Next Generation such as Erik Agard and Claire Rimkus is making some kind of progress. On the other hand sometimes even somebody like BEQ's attempts to vajazzle it up sometimes fall flat, to me anyways.
