I love playing non book moves and confounding the enemy. I usually lose but it’s fun as hell when I win

calstars, Saturday, 7 May 2022 01:49 (four years ago)

the good thing about bullet is how weird the positions are the bad part is all the timeouts and that it makes you worse at chess

I enjoy the flexibility and laissez faire that comes with playing lower level opponents. Moon shot strategies suddenly become possible

calstars, Sunday, 10 July 2022 19:09 (three years ago)

I'd be interested to see how black's king has ended up on g5 when white's queen, queen's rook and king's cleric are all on their starting squares and the king's rook has apparently just moved for the first time

pretty funny reviewing bullet games and seeing obvious missed tactics on every move

lag∞n, Monday, 11 July 2022 14:30 (three years ago)

im still 300+ points worse on bullet than blitz not sure im ever really gonna get it but its pretty fun to play a million games and just never think

Anyone seen “queens gambit?”
I could watch ATJ play fake chess all day

Sadly the report doesn't say whether the robot was losing, or not:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-62286017

"A robot broke a seven-year-old boy's finger during a chess match in Moscow last week, Russian news outlets report.

"The robot broke the child's finger," Sergey Lazarev, Moscow Chess Federation President, told Tass news agency. "This is of course bad.""

what does sam sloan think of the magnus/hans drama

Allen (etaeoe), Monday, 19 September 2022 18:35 (three years ago)

magnus just does not want anything to do with the lad

Magnus Carlsen turned his webcam on, made one move, resigned, then turned his camera off and disappeared.

He did not say anything. https://t.co/WPsUsktN8P

lag∞n, Monday, 19 September 2022 21:29 (three years ago)

i don't blame him tbh

Allen (etaeoe), Monday, 19 September 2022 22:57 (three years ago)

yeah i tend to trust magnus on this, and a number of other top players seem to be suspicious of hans too, but its a pretty weird situation where magnus is just being extremely passive aggressive

lag∞n, Monday, 19 September 2022 23:04 (three years ago)

mb magnus is convinced that hans is cheating but doesnt have any hard proof

lag∞n, Monday, 19 September 2022 23:05 (three years ago)

he admitted to cheating. twice. in tournaments. and chess.com implied it was worse than that! it's insane he's even invited to these tournaments.

Allen (etaeoe), Monday, 19 September 2022 23:15 (three years ago)

getting caught cheating online doesnt seem to be that big of a deal in the chess world for whatever reason, theres other players whove cheated online but still get invited to live tourneys, tho i dont think theres anyone at the absolute top level, part of it i think is theres no formal admin relationship between the sites and fide

lag∞n, Monday, 19 September 2022 23:24 (three years ago)

another thing that complicates it is those cheating instances were when he was a child

lag∞n, Monday, 19 September 2022 23:27 (three years ago)

COVID changed everything because tournaments went online. He wasn’t cheating in marches to boost his Elo, he was cheating in tournaments and accepting cash prizes. This also wasn’t when he was much younger. The last incident happened at the beginning of COVID.

Allen (etaeoe), Tuesday, 20 September 2022 01:10 (three years ago)

yeah he was 16 at the beginning of covid, and fwiw hes been rolling since tourneys have gone live again, so if hes not cheating over the board then hes prob not cheating online either hes just that good

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 September 2022 01:14 (three years ago)

i mean he beat magnus, his first classical loss in like two years

lag∞n, Tuesday, 20 September 2022 01:30 (three years ago)

I like to imagine Magnus is just salty as can be and is claiming foul to protect his ego. I say this in admiration to Magnus because Lord knows I would do the same in his position.

Seriously tho, Kinda messed up to let cheaters in. Don't care if it was when you were a kid or whatever. Bans need to be made public and enforced. Magnus is able to do what he is doing (and imo is justified) because FIDE and Chess.com are giving too much leeway and not being transparent with their response to cheating (speaking of the past). Hope this fixes things and we get some public stoning's in the future.
no formal relationship between sites/FIDE really does mess with this. Team Magnus lets gooooooooooo

seems like magnus thinks this dlugy guy is in on the scheme

"Unfortunately I cannot particularly speak on that but people can draw their own conclusion & they certainly have. I have to say I am very impressed by Niemann's play & I think his mentor Maxim Dlugy must have been doing a great job"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c50PJmOj2-U

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 September 2022 20:46 (three years ago)

Is Magnus mainly mad that someone in his team leaked his opening prep? it seems too implausable that someone would be able to engine cheat during an on the board classical game.

cajunsunday, Wednesday, 21 September 2022 21:36 (three years ago)

you could do it, some of the things people have done to cheat at gambling are unbelievable, chess would be relatively easy

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 September 2022 21:53 (three years ago)

one interesting thing i read is magnus before this whole thing was speculating about cheating and said that hed only need to have two or three moves a game given to him to be totally unbeatable
