This is communism

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 3 February 2022 14:26 (four years ago)

of course you'd need to meter it - if somebody wanted to use over a certain generous amount to grow weed in a closet or something then they'd need to pay, or apply for a dispensation or something, but these are solvable problems, at least much more so than the problems introduced by a system where the companies supplying essential services to the public are incentivized to charge as much as they possibly can and cry poverty while their executives rake in massive bonuses year after year

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 February 2022 14:33 (four years ago)

these companies are literally getting the government to pay their bills already, so we might as well own the fucking things!

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 February 2022 14:34 (four years ago)

i mean yes this is a sop to voters, and a good kind of sop, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that it’s also a bail-out, just a very inefficient one

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 February 2022 14:36 (four years ago)

I think if Corbz/JMac had presented their broadband communism proposal as part of wider narrative of Universal Public Services - utilities, plus also transport and education - aimed at euthenizing the various rentiers (as twitter user @tristandross put it this morning "the problem with the remorseless and ceaseless accumulation of wealth is that eventually you run out of other people to extract capital from") then it might have made more sense than as a rando retail politics offer.

Piedie Gimbel, Thursday, 3 February 2022 14:41 (four years ago)

I'd say that a lot of landlords, who are under no pressure to do this under UK law, should concentrate on upgrading their props up to "fit for human habitation" standard before fucking insulating them. But I'd also say liquidate every last one of the parasitical scumbags.

calzino, Thursday, 3 February 2022 14:47 (four years ago)

Yes we can!

calzino, Thursday, 3 February 2022 14:48 (four years ago)

🚨NEW 🚨
Bank of England says UK households must brace themselves for the biggest annual fall in their standard of living since comparable records began three decades ago, as it:
- Raises interest rates to 0.5%
- Says inflation will surpass 7%
- Slashes GDP forecast

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 3 February 2022 14:54 (four years ago)

What will an interest rise do after it being so low for so fucking long?

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 3 February 2022 14:54 (four years ago)

might be a good time to buy some sacks of rice to add to what's left of the military-industrial rice complex I started in the first lockdown.

calzino, Thursday, 3 February 2022 14:57 (four years ago)

Look, guns will make us powerful, rice will only make us, well ok it won't make us fat exactly. Unless we turn it into booze. Let's make sake and then exterminate the bourgeoisie

Reader, I buried him (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 3 February 2022 15:55 (four years ago)

not had any sake for years, sounds like a plan.

calzino, Thursday, 3 February 2022 15:59 (four years ago)

Because I'm an ignorant simpleton and don't understand how business works I wonder lately whether this cost of living narrative actually encourages supermarkets et al to ramp up their prices under the cover of "soz it's not our fault"

Burn a lot of people with high mortgages on variable rates ie a lot of people who bought at the top in London-SE.

mardheamac (gyac), Thursday, 3 February 2022 16:09 (four years ago)

Doesn't sound good for the Tories. Maybe these ppl will vote Lib Dem.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 3 February 2022 16:55 (four years ago)

Sounds good for the progressive alliance

NEW: Bank of England Governor interview for #BBCNewsSix

Me: Are you trying to get into people’s heads & ask them not to ask for too high a pay rise?
Bailey: Broadly yes
Me: Really?
Bailey: we do need to see a moderation of wage rises… thats painfulhttps://t.co/eAsLUvuxQb

If I had £495k salary I'd be simply too embarrassed to talk like that

calzino, Thursday, 3 February 2022 18:36 (four years ago)

Absolutely.

The thing is, the "vulgar Marxist" analysis is right. They want to crush the lower orders and reallocate the country's wealth to themselves and their mates. That's it.

Savile providing some moral high ground pretext for the rats is it. Still love to see him floundering though

stet, Thursday, 3 February 2022 20:05 (four years ago)

a tory scumbag who used to write for spiked as the resident BAME racism apologist, using this attack on fellow conservative Kieth as the pretext for her resignation is about as high as the moral ground get's in UK politics right now.

calzino, Thursday, 3 February 2022 20:25 (four years ago)

Because I'm an ignorant simpleton and don't understand how business works I wonder lately whether this cost of living narrative actually encourages supermarkets et al to ramp up their prices under the cover of "soz it's not our fault"

have been suspicious lately that supermarkets seem to be constantly out of stock of the more affordable versions of things leaving only "luxury" versions left to buy and whether that's really due to stock issues or they just want to grind even more money out of us.

even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get fucked" (bovarism), Friday, 4 February 2022 08:23 (four years ago)

think jack Monroe said as much, arguing inflation measures should track staple goods with special attention to supermarket own basic brands as these have a tendency to dwindle or outright disappear from shelves.

no mention of Southend West?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-60235797

"Sir David had been the area's MP since 1997 and the seat was not contested by Labour, the Liberal Democrats or the Greens.

Less than a quarter of the electorate turned out to vote, while there were twice as many spoiled ballot papers as there were votes for the second-placed candidate Jason Pilley, of the Psychedelic Movement."

Doesn't take long for the Psychedelic Movement manifesto to show its true colours here.

imago, Friday, 4 February 2022 18:51 (four years ago)

I guarantee you it would only be occasionally mildly amusing at best and eventually quite exhaustingly boring. But hey I'm not a comedian!

calzino, Friday, 4 February 2022 18:57 (four years ago)

the whoops from the crowd in that Carr clip are sickening, comedy audiences are the worst as well.

calzino, Friday, 4 February 2022 18:58 (four years ago)

I think it was the birthday or death anniversary of Jeremy Hardy the other day and thinking how about 99% of british comedy are complete cunts and he was so nice.

calzino, Friday, 4 February 2022 19:13 (four years ago)

I've always said Jimmy Carr is a cunt and should be executed.

Like to think you just posted this randomly and haven't seen the news.

well at least now I can argue for justifiable homicide!

calzino, Friday, 4 February 2022 19:20 (four years ago)

Sean Lock as well, another who was quite funny and not a tory prick who was taken early by cancer. All the worst ones will outlive us all.

even Jerry Sadowitz couldn't make it funny saying the genocide of european roma was a positive. There is no fucker in the world who can make that funny, yet these simps laughed and some whooped.

Various Twitter people suggesting that the correct form of restorative justice for Jimmy Carr would be to get lamped by Tyson Fury. Fair IMO.

the thin blue lying (suzy), Friday, 4 February 2022 20:16 (four years ago)

as long as Tyson is allowed to put some nuts and bolts in his gloves!

calzino, Friday, 4 February 2022 20:53 (four years ago)

The defence of Carr seems to boil down to “calm down, it was a joke” but what was the joke? As far as I can tell there was no irony and it’s just a man saying the systemic slaughter of an ethnic group was good because they’re bad and the audience lapping it up in agreement

— Darren Richman (@darrenrichman) February 4, 2022

don't give these fuckers any money, just download illegal torrents if you are addicted to watching garbage.

calzino, Saturday, 5 February 2022 08:46 (four years ago)

Great how the calls for Netflix to pull this will 100% not result in that happening but will give Jimmy Carr plenty of opportunity to go on TV shows to cry about cancel culture.

Not that I think the calls shouldn't be made, it's just.

Daniel_Rf, Saturday, 5 February 2022 11:46 (four years ago)

not seen any response to this from any of his high profile "committed anti-racist" chums yet. It will take some gold medal winning bullshit at the sophistry olympics to argue that this was acceptable or even comedy, seeing as it was objectively unfunny.

calzino, Saturday, 5 February 2022 12:00 (four years ago)

lol went on Baddiel's twitter fully expecting him to not give a toss about a demographic that truly "doesn't count" when it comes to most ppl's anti-racism and fair dos, he calls Carr's joke indefensible.
