I always viewed them as being one of the more likable teams, is it a kind of Icarus tall poppy syndrome thing after they appeared to flirt with the big time for Carlo and James' cup of coffee or whatever, reality stomping them back into the ground like a hapless Coen bros protagonist who attempted to defy the role fate allocated them

Digne's Villa career might be shit for all I know, but it seems suboptimal to sell him solely because of a dispute with a manager who leaves less than a week later, as much as their hands were probably already tied when they bought his (?terrible) replacement as soon as the window opened

They definitely have not got as much attention as they should but the saga of Alisher Usmanov trying to buy Arsenal and the board flat-out refusing to sell specifically to him, the suggestion that he might be the only person in recorded history to actually fail the Fit And Proper Person test, his switching attention to Everton and the club being bought by his business partner shortly after might be in the background of a few minds.
