i imagine you'd be lucky to get a check in six weeks. we have winners on this forum who could clarify though....?

maybe winners don't get paid, they're just indentured to Jeopardy forever

I also thought if you finished with $-800 or whatever you'd have to pay the show

frogbs, Thursday, 6 January 2022 20:45 (four years ago)

how it should be IMO

POTENT POTABLES

Precious, Grace, Hill & Beard LTD. (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 19 January 2022 17:33 (four years ago)

amy has gotten like 4 out of the last 5 final jeopardys wrong. every game is a runaway so it doesn't matter but--makes me nervous!

flopson, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 20:47 (four years ago)

yeah lots of missed double jeopardys too. kinda surprised no one has really made her sweat during this stretch

Spottie, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 20:50 (four years ago)

i'm conflicted cause i don't want her run to (ever) end, but at the same time want it to finish in time for her to go head to head with amodio in tournament of champions

flopson, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 20:57 (four years ago)

according to ken's stats updates she's currently #2 in games won (behind only ken), but #4 in winnings (behind amodio, ken and holzhauer) but getting close to #3. at her rate of winnings per game it would take a long time for her to overtake the top 2

flopson, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 20:59 (four years ago)

i <3 <3 <3 her. it’s interesting she plays the anti-analytic way, top down and small daily double bets. she’s just so smart and has a breadth of knowledge & is clearly good on the buzzer routinely sweeping categories. i love that she sweeps basically every sports category.

it will be interesting to see what happens when she is in a close game. matt basically imploded in his loss, missing a bunch of questions he’d normally get, kinda stammering and visibly losing confidence. the pressure really got to him. i liked matt but i hope amy hangs in long enough to pass him

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 19 January 2022 21:02 (four years ago)

she still has 4 more games to go to pass matt. she did pass holzhauer tho

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 19 January 2022 21:04 (four years ago)

i wasn’t watching when he was winning but holzhauer’s average winnings per game is completely crazy

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 19 January 2022 21:04 (four years ago)

she's a total monster, absolute all timer.
my physical therapist kept referring to her as "him" today, regardless of how many times I said "yeah, SHE'S great"

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 19 January 2022 21:16 (four years ago)

wrt Amy as eternal champion: i feel like at a certain point people get a little tired of taping five games a day or whatever the schedule is and no one can keep it up forever.

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 19 January 2022 21:17 (four years ago)

it's interesting, on a recent episode (maybe a few days ago?) ken opened by talking about how previous all time winners (maybe holzhauer and matt?) had lost on mondays, i think he said "the curse of monday" or something. his theory was that they weren't warmed up w/ the buzzer or weren't as locked into the game as you might be after a few in a row.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 19 January 2022 21:21 (four years ago)

holzhauers run was all-time great tv. cocky but nerdy and fun. i thought he would never lose

Spottie, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 21:32 (four years ago)

i would buy a box set of holzhauer's run

Clay, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 21:40 (four years ago)

yea he had the Tom Brady thing going, he just dominated so much that it was fun to root against him. I also got the "this guy might never lose" feeling but you had to figure at some point he would miss one of those big double-or-nothing wagers and be unable to come back. I was legitimately surprised that Ken beat him in the GOAT tournament.

frogbs, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 21:47 (four years ago)

ken must have the quickest trigger finger on the planet

Spottie, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 21:49 (four years ago)

I suspect they made the questions a lot harder for that but idk if they were hard enough. Feel like I can get like 15-18 right during a regular show, during that tournament it was more like....3

frogbs, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 21:51 (four years ago)

I think it was the guy who beat Amodio defended him by saying Matt had gotten burned out because they fell behind on tapings after Richards was fired and were doing three shoots a week with his loss being his 11th taping of the week or something.

Precious, Grace, Hill & Beard LTD. (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 19 January 2022 22:01 (four years ago)

ah that’s interesting. and in matt’s defense that guy (jonathan) did go on to win like 10-11 games himself, so it’s not like matt lost to a scrub

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 19 January 2022 22:08 (four years ago)

I was legitimately surprised that Ken beat him in the GOAT tournament.

ken must have the quickest trigger finger on the planet

i think it's also that james' entire strategy was based on steamrolling over his opponents from the get-go, which greatly enhanced his chances of finding the daily doubles, which is where he made a huge percentage of his money. there was no way that was going to work in a tournament of super champions, where suddenly he was on an even playing field of both trigger fingers and breadth of knowledge. there was no way he was going to be able to rely on daily doubles to carry him through that, because there was no way he was going to be the guy who found all of 'em.

always thought this part of Brainiac was fascinating

“Lying to everyone I know for months on end is taking a psychological toll as well,” Jennings wrote in his 2006 memoir, Brainiac. “The secret starts to make me feel a little schizophrenic. A couple days a month, I’m the Ken Jennings who’s shattered game show records, whose ever-growing daily winnings total is starting to look like a life-changing amount of money. But nobody knows about him yet. I still have to come home and be Ken Jennings the boring suburban dad, in his same old mundane treadmill of an office job, pretending nothing has happened.”

amy 4eva <3

flopson, Thursday, 27 January 2022 03:01 (four years ago)

i almost never get double jeopardy but i knew this one. i actually thought “top 10 most populous countries” made it too easy

guy who beat her is pretty cute, his reaction to winning was hysterical. in a way amy being ousted by a gay librarian is a relief, could’ve been worse

flopson, Thursday, 27 January 2022 03:03 (four years ago)

lol otm

i could see her mind racing trying to come up w the answer and slightly panicking as time ticked by

tourney of champs will be goood

johnny crunch, Thursday, 27 January 2022 03:07 (four years ago)

as amy points out in that post-show video clip above, rhone did the one thing you absolutely have to do to beat a champion like her but that so few people are willing to do: max out your daily double bets.

and, yeah, his reaction was great.

fact checking cuz, Thursday, 27 January 2022 03:09 (four years ago)

xp I read "gay libertarian" at first

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 27 January 2022 04:57 (four years ago)

i’m shocked she didn’t get final jeopardy, like flopson i almost never get them but i got that one pretty quickly. odd too because she had her two highest winning days in the last week which included getting final jeopardy on really big wagers, seemed like she had regained her footing there after a bit of a cold streak

anyway — absolute icon & legend. what a run.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 27 January 2022 05:24 (four years ago)

Holzhauer also lost to a Chicago librarian (Emma Boettcher). It's a curse!

Precious, Grace, Hill & Beard LTD. (C. Grisso/McCain), Thursday, 27 January 2022 07:13 (four years ago)

honestly don't know if i could continue watching regularly if bialik became permanent host. i find her saccharine, phony, and cringe. CBS is seriously at risk of losing the demographic of people 3 decades younger than the show's median viewer who watch the show via adless illegal youtube rips if they chose her over ken

flopson, Tuesday, 8 February 2022 16:27 (four years ago)

she shills for bullshit brain power supplements too

Jaime Pressly and America (f. hazel), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 16:29 (four years ago)

i don’t mind her but it’s clear that ken is just miles better, more natural and more engaging as a host. she has the same problem of stiltedness as most of the hosts they tried out

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 February 2022 16:31 (four years ago)

dying to know what demands, negotiations and hubris led to mayim being introduced every show as "the host of jeopardy" and ken as "hosting jeopardy."

still flummoxed and curious about this.

fact checking cuz, Tuesday, 8 February 2022 16:47 (four years ago)

i grew to like ken a lot more over the course of his last run. his humour in the meet the contestants segment started to grate on me a bit; the way he always had a clever little line to wrap each interview with. (the trebek interviews were obviously a miracle of oblique comedy that will never be replicated). i like the little trebekisms that ken's adopted, like saying "good" in response to a correct answer

there's an old interview where trebek says that the real stars are the writers of the clues, and anyone could host it. there's a lot of truth to that, but only up to a point. something about mayim's cadence reading clues reminds me of a keen elementary school student and it takes me out of it

flopson, Tuesday, 8 February 2022 16:48 (four years ago)

xp- my guess is she and mike richards signed contracts back in august, his got torn up but hers still valid, and it says "host of jeopardy" on it since she was hired to do college tournaments & specials

flopson, Tuesday, 8 February 2022 16:51 (four years ago)

I do enjoy how Ken tries to keep alive Alex's subtle "tsk tsking" of people who fuck up

he's very big in the region of my butthole (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 8 February 2022 16:51 (four years ago)

amy is #TeamKen

Jennings was manning the trivia board during Schneider’s victory run. At first, she didn’t consider him a shoe-in for permanent host despite his record as a long-running contestant. After seeing the Jeopardy! GOAT in action at the lectern, Schneider views Jennings as the only one for the job.

“Ken Jennings should be the host,” Schneider said on CNN, according to The Week. “I really can’t say enough about him. I didn’t necessarily think that before going into this because, yes, he was a great champion, but this is a different skill set. But you could see the work that he put into it, and I just thought he did a really great job. So as far as I’m concerned, that’s my endorsement.”
