Hate the LDs all you like for present and past misdemeanours, but sooner or later you have to face up to the fact that the second most likely outcome whenever the next GE happens after a Tory victory isn't a Labour victory, it's that the parliamentary maths gives Lab+LD combined the most seats. What then? Coalition or confidence & supply agreement?

I'd predict a 2.7% improvement in ministerial standards being maintained to a satisfactory level with a LabDem coalition of competence. But then unfortunately the Office of Value for Money on behalf of taxpayers did an audit and decided PIP payments were too open-handed. The NHS would still be doomed because it turns out lots of Labour ministers are compromised private health cronies as well. Lest we forget the Labour Right pin-up Owen Smith is now the UK government relations director for Bristol-Myers Squibb - that pharmaceutical behemoth that is facing a £1bn law suit for using Guatemalan people as human guinea pigs and infecting them with syphilis in the 40's.

calzino, Friday, 17 December 2021 19:47 (four years ago)

The point surely is why did that narrative stick? Labour came second in 2019 & Starmer is meant to be someone who through a more sympathetic media than Corbyn can communicate with swing voters. The inability to persuade voters that Labour was a better bet is a major failure. https://t.co/aKKo2Z3tmY

OJ wrong again shocker!

calzino, Friday, 17 December 2021 20:27 (four years ago)

the only reason the narrative stuck so easily is because nobody likes Kieth. Even the fucking invisible man, Ed Gravy is a more palatable option to so called swing voters than that cunt.

calzino, Friday, 17 December 2021 20:30 (four years ago)

in this case swing voters = tory voters having a boo. But when Starmer has just spent the last year+ trying to appeal to these people and ends up getting a third of votes Corbyn got '17 and less than half than he did in '19 then that is a failure and a bad result for him. blah blah byelection rules apply etc... just don't make excuses for the cunt OJ, there is already enough people doing that.

Appalling.

Fourteen years in jail is the sort of sentence you might expect if criminal actions led to loss of life. It’s absolutely not what you’d anticipate for disorder. This is a troubling knee jerk sentence. https://t.co/OpLQJArQSG

The most serious thing he was convicted of, arson with intent to endanger life, will get you 10 years in most cases. The sentence might be excessive but somewhere around 10-12 is the minimum he was ever going to get, I think.

No, at least one had people in, who he threatened directly.

This is actually really infuriating. For most schools, the simple answer to her question is - we're not.

But there are schools in London, typically serving deprived communities, that have very polluted air. And kids die from it. That's poisoned air https://t.co/CF6P6F8I3Z

I would definitely take no small spiteful pleasure in Johnson getting 1922d out of no 10 even if the cunt will be just fine and another probably worse shithead will take his place ad infinitum, because I am not made of stone

When Smeato Met Moaty (Tom D.), Sunday, 19 December 2021 20:42 (four years ago)

The Graun is running a story with a pic of him enjoying wine and a cheese platter in the Downing st garden during the May '20 lockdown with a party of 20 people. On the hit parade of Tory outrages of the last decade it wouldn't even make the top 40 for me. I know some people feel genuine anger about this stuff but I feel like it's such trivial shit. But of course people who have suffered family losses and couldn't visit dying loved ones are fair enough to feel anger.

calzino, Sunday, 19 December 2021 20:57 (four years ago)

I'd happily turn a blind eye to a bunch of lockdown breaking champagne socialists in Downing st having a party if their public health policies superseded the interests of landlords + scumbag wealth creators who pay poverty wages and not so many people needlessly dying.

calzino, Sunday, 19 December 2021 21:24 (four years ago)

I'm too long in the tooth (and missing a few) to get genuinely outraged about the inherent badness of the real Tories.

Good on the latest set of government failures.

Significant percentage of unvaccinated people in the UK can't get vaccinated because they're 12-15 years old and had Covid in the past three months. Waiting until September to start vaccinating them was the government's choice. pic.twitter.com/aowuwCIn7F

I don’t get that thread. Javid, as second thought concedes, clearly not talking about children. I would rather the argument that the Tories are clearly pushing, that medical care should be denied to people bc of personal choices was the one being pushed back by supposed leftists.

mardheamac (gyac), Monday, 20 December 2021 12:03 (four years ago)

Yes I assume Sajid is talking about adults who didn't get the vaccine however I have seen the UK drag it's heels on a vaccination programme for children too.

An 82-year-old Jewish woman, who is being investigated by Labour for alleged antisemitism...

I'm sure there was a time when something like this would be considered completely absurd.

calzino, Monday, 20 December 2021 12:22 (four years ago)

I read that thing about being a protected belief under the equality act and thought “I bet this cites that fucking Forstater case” and sure enough…thing is the latest review of said case does conclude that, but it basically also says one has the right to an opinion but not to disseminate it in the workplace or use it to harass people. Still though, Bindmans don’t fuck around.

Later, Ms Murray tweeted: “Today Jeremy Corbyn went to his local mosque for Visit My Mosque Day, and was attacked by a Brexiteer. Rachel Riley tweets that Corbyn deserves to be violently attacked because he is a Nazi. This woman is as dangerous as she is stupid. Nobody should engage with her. Ever.”

that seems like a very reasonable tweet to be considered defamatory in a court of law and have to pay 10k in damages to RR... ffs!

calzino, Monday, 20 December 2021 13:09 (four years ago)

Riley said she was being sarcastic in her tweet, did not call Corbyn a Nazi, and told the judge that Murray’s tweet caused serious harm to her reputation.

The entitlement just drips out of that quote like rancid goose fat

Hopefully someone’s going to be able to take the £10k off her with a libel action of their own.
