I just double checked the episode. When they're on the subway train after the car chase he says "You're not wrong to call yourself one of the world's greatest archers" while she's talking about walking the dog. Also he shoots her arrow to hit it with a Pym particle arrow and massively increase its size to take out a tracksuit mafia truck speeding up to crash into them.

Hah, yeah, that's right. Still, I'd count hitting another arrow in mid-flight as proof that you're probably the best.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 17 December 2021 18:38 (four years ago)
It's jarring every time I'm reminded that Clint has a wife & kids; they're trying their best to square that with his "sullen loner" vibe, but maybe not entirely successfully.
I thought it was funny that his wife didn't at all suspect him of, you know, being unfaithful – even just for dramatic enhancement – when they talk on the phone and he's all - "Yeeeeah, Honey... I dunno, things are really bad here, I think it's gonna be another couple of days. Boy, it's just a mess, the 'big man' may be involved. I'm working closely with this girl who grew up obsessed with me, it's all good, will keep you posted!"
― katebishopfan616 (morrisp), Friday, 17 December 2021 19:04 (four years ago)
Does she exist in the comics? Because in the show she seems very much a partner in every sense. She knows other languages (German?) to speak to him so her kids won't understand, she knows her husband was a murderer-for-hire, she researched stuff for him and so on. She clearly seems to be used to hiding out and moving around and otherwise being in danger.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 17 December 2021 19:41 (four years ago)
I don't think so. He was married to Mockingbird at one point.
― katebishopfan616 (morrisp), Friday, 17 December 2021 19:46 (four years ago)
She might still turn out to be Mockingbird. She’s obviously got a past that hasn’t been revealed yet
― I am using your worlds, Friday, 17 December 2021 21:49 (four years ago)
Well Bobbi Morse exists in the MCU, right? (played by Adrianne Palicki)
― katebishopfan616 (morrisp), Friday, 17 December 2021 21:52 (four years ago)
Not sure that’s canon anymore, but there’s still a possibility she could be another version of Mockingbird
― I am using your worlds, Friday, 17 December 2021 22:24 (four years ago)
Hawkeye had a family in The Ultimates. They got slaughtered iirc. Fucken Millar.
― Rep. Cobra Commander (R-TX) (Old Lunch), Friday, 17 December 2021 23:29 (four years ago)
...at least THAT'S non-canon.
― katebishopfan616 (morrisp), Saturday, 18 December 2021 00:08 (four years ago)
Spidermens is ok. Feels a little overstuffed and most of the baddies are still weak sauce IMO. Zendaya gives the best performance in the film. RIP Marisa Tomei's horrible Aunt Mae outfits.

i asked my physical therapist to spoil it for me and she flatly refused saying "i wouldn't ruin it for you or for anyone," even after i told here that the chances I see it before it leaks to the internet are basically zero. Lol, fanboys are crazy these days.

can somebody spoil it for me here? what are the big SHOCK REVEALS.
(use the spoiler tags obvs) or don't i don't care lol
― When Young Sheldon began to rap (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 19 December 2021 17:41 (four years ago)
I mean, please don’t go out of your way to that (at least without tags). I won’t be able to take my kid for a few weeks, and would prefer to save a little mystery for myself!
― katebishopfan616 (morrisp), Sunday, 19 December 2021 17:55 (four years ago)
all three spidermens are in this for a fair amount of the movie, like half of it at least. So are Doc Oct (no surprise there), Willem Defoe as Green Goblin, Jaimie Foxx as electro, what's his name as sand dude, and that lizard thing I tried to forget about. Garfield and McGuire both good; McGuire really showing his age now though. It's very clear how much each actor studied the others for speech patterns. Aunt Mae dies. Everything is reset and at the end no one remembers Peter at all, and he is all alone at the end. Venom makes a mid-credits appearance (voice and goo that is, not Tom Hardy).
― akm, Sunday, 19 December 2021 22:01 (four years ago)
aw, that's all stuff i already knew! i was hoping maybe lady thor shows up or something.
― When Young Sheldon began to rap (forksclovetofu), Monday, 20 December 2021 04:40 (four years ago)
anyways, thanks for full spoiling. i just wanna be aware of what the popular understanding of these characters is, i don't wanna watch it.

adding on another post credits scene, a preview of the next Dr Strange film: he goes to Wanda for help sorting out the mess he started here. Might also be useful to check out the Dr Strange and finale episodes of "What If?" - parts of the preview hinted at a link to that.
I quite liked this Spidey movie, better than the last one I think, though still not as good as the first or Spider-Verse (obvs). I mostly appreciated the course correction wrt to Peter Parker's character: he isn't the next Tony Stark after all. He's just Peter Parker, no. 27 of infinity. surprisingly bleak/bittersweet ending.
― Roz, Monday, 20 December 2021 06:18 (four years ago)
oh the other cameo is charlie cox as daredevil. dunno if this means he will start showing up in other things but it was a decent little scene
― akm, Monday, 20 December 2021 15:52 (four years ago)
hm, that explains all the static i picked up about the netflix characters reintegration into the MCU
― When Young Sheldon began to rap (forksclovetofu), Monday, 20 December 2021 16:46 (four years ago)
A mere $260 million earned in the US so far, clearly a flop.

Saw the @SpiderManMovie (thank you @screenxofficial)! And I tried to be a big boy, I really did! but alas...WARNING: BRING TISSUES!1) For the joy jizz, when you see your favorite good & bad guys from childhood all together up on the silver screen! 2) For all the feels & tears! pic.twitter.com/55hezLnjxl— KevinSmith (@ThatKevinSmith) December 17, 2021

At this point I think the jorts were less embarrassing than a 51 year-old man tweeting out "joy jizz".

Hawkeye final episode was about what I figured, which not a complaint -- though there are a few moments I'll headscratch at. The 'Christmas gift' at the end is a nice touch.

I’m firing it up now…
― Texas Medicine v. Railroad Gin (morrisp), Wednesday, 22 December 2021 17:26 (four years ago)
I enjoyed that! The Kate/Elena scenes were great. Some really cool stunts and on-location filming, too.A few things did leave me scratching my head. What was the significance of the “gift”?

The watch ?
It means that Clint's wife was Mockingbird - SHIELD agent #19.

Btw – I've read those early Mockingbird comics, but I couldn't have told you that Bobbi Morse was "Agent 19" if you gave me 19 guesses. That's some deep fan service!
― Texas Medicine v. Railroad Gin (morrisp), Wednesday, 22 December 2021 19:00 (four years ago)
i liked this finale but much like TFATWS, it felt like there was an episode missing - truncated by covid perhaps.
Kingpin appearance was pretty meh, none of the menace he brought on the Netflix show. I liked Daredevil but I do have questions over how "un-family friendly" these characters are allowed to be on Disney.
was hoping for more Maya as well, but I guess she's getting her own show now.
― Roz, Thursday, 23 December 2021 01:11 (four years ago)
They coulda maybe done a better post-credits scene, but oh wells
― Texas Medicine v. Railroad Gin (morrisp), Thursday, 23 December 2021 02:47 (four years ago)
We watched Captain Marvel tonight – a really good one! Probably my favorite so far. They went in interesting directions and took some risks with the storytelling (particularly in the beginning), and it paid off. Bree Larson was great, she really nailed it. It was also cool to see stuff I know from the DeConnick comics (like the Flerkin).
Something I didn't quite get – why was Mar-Vell researching "lightspeed" tech on Earth, when the Kree obviously have warp drive and all this other super-advanced stuff already?
The 1995 setting was fun, and I liked the period-specific jokes. I kept looking for references to a few specific movies - particularly in the downtown L.A. scenes - but if they were there, I missed 'em. Turns out there was a subtle Pulp Fiction callout (Skrull sipping a soda), which I expected throughout the film but ended up not catching (there was also an "opening the glowing lunchbox" moment where they coulda leaned into it, but they didn't quite go there).
Sorry, I know everyone else saw this movie long ago...

*Brie Larson (sorry, I once knew a "Bree")
― Texas Medicine v. Railroad Gin (morrisp), Thursday, 23 December 2021 06:28 (four years ago)
Just watched the beginning of Black Widow; it has a surprisingly “arty” look. (hey - young Yelena likes mac & cheese!)
― Texas Medicine v. Railroad Gin (morrisp), Thursday, 23 December 2021 07:24 (four years ago)
The Mar-Vell lightspeed research would have provided a technological leap advantage over the Kree for either the Skrull folk she was working with, or for humanity (as she was involving Earth in the conflict by hiding out here).
― the body of a spider... (scampering alpaca), Thursday, 23 December 2021 13:28 (four years ago)
She can’t just give them the Kree’a existing technology(?) why she gotta reinvent the wheel?
― Texas Medicine v. Railroad Gin (morrisp), Thursday, 23 December 2021 16:24 (four years ago)
I mean this is technology that, when absorbed by Carol Danvers (presumably not the intended mode of interface) makes her one of the most powerful beings in the universe - it's probably got some oomph to it.
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 23 December 2021 17:58 (four years ago)
Something kinda cool about some of these Marvel movies is how they include roles for "older" actors (including older women, like Annette Bening and Michelle Pfeiffer).
― Texas Medicine v. Railroad Gin (morrisp), Thursday, 23 December 2021 20:49 (four years ago)
Meantime, over in Hawkeye world:
Trust me In Hawkeye I'm playing the character as if the character from DD survivor of "the blip"Is now set on getting back his city. The blip weakened his crown, his authority over his kingdom. Now he wants it back. He's in damage control mode. That's all. Merry Merry.— Vincent D'Onofrio (@vincentdonofrio) December 23, 2021

Guess his effectiveness at controlling damage is kind of a cliffhanger.

he was so fking good
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 24 December 2021 02:38 (four years ago)
Really enjoyed the Spider-Man flick. I liked that they loaded it up with character stuff. Holland kinda felt outmatched when he was surrounded by stage and screen vets and Oscar-caliber folks.
It was the best Marvel Team-Up story ever.
― Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Saturday, 25 December 2021 03:04 (four years ago)
My only knowledge of kingpin is from spiderverse, and I really didn’t like the character in Hawkeye at all - like frank black in resort wear channeling colonel kurtz and fezzik from princess bride. Is he supposed to be superpowered? Also someone earlier mentioned Florence Pugh’s charisma - I’ve only seen her in black widow during an opiate and intense pain haze so it’s kind of blurry but it’s really interesting to see someone on screen who radiates some sort of indescribable “it” quality that separates them from everyone else.
