Oh fuck. RIP Steve. Had no idea he was from Glasgow, therefore Bronski Beat was a Scottish band!

Damn, a lot of musical losses recently. Barry Harris was the last of the pioneering Detroit piano triumvirate, following Hank Jones and Tommy Flanagan into bop valhalla.

The singer left to form The Communards but Bronski Beat continued, reaching the top 10 again with Hit That Perfect Beat in November 1985.

I don't think I've heard Barry Harris but it seems he was an OG bebop master and people who he taught speak very highly of him. RIP

Chris Achilleos, artist and book illustrator. Mainly worked in SF and probably the most famous cover artist of the Target Doctor Who line.

Achilleos created the controversial cover for Whitesnake's 1979 album, Lovehunter, which showed a naked woman straddling a giant serpent. In an interview with MelodicRock, Gary Hughes stated that Achilleos thereafter "had a policy of not working with bands".[9]

The death of an unlikely hero: Riccardo Ehrman, the Italian journalist whose question at an East German press conference on 9 November 1989 triggered the unexpected opening of the Berlin Wall, has died aged 92.

Ehrman asked the East German press secretary, Günter Schabowski, when new travel regulations were going to come into force which meant that East Germans could apply for permission to travel abroad without having to meet the previous requirements for these trips. Schabowski, who hadn't been present at the Central Committee meeting when the text on travel regulations was discussed, improvised an answer: "As far as I know... effective immediately, without delay." East Berliners rushed to the city's six border crossings and the Wall was opened the same evening.
