Ian Urbina’s book is legitimately good (assuming the reporting is trustworthy) so it’s wild to see him running something that looks objectively like a massive scam.

yeah, I don’t know how things got to this point, but it’s just… a really weird situation?

I ran across a profile on the project where he seemed to imply that the music project would help fund his investigative reporting work, which would be cool if everyone was on board with that, but it sounds like the musicians were told something much different.

YouTube has started turning off the comments on my channel. I tried to find out why but nothing really makes sense. I upload songs from lounge records that most people don't care about. Is the issue the original songwriter credit?

That video showed up in my Twitter timeline, and I made a snarky reply to the effect that I'd rather read an article than watch a video, and a bunch of Jordan's fans(?) called me rude and ungrateful. The video seems like it is probably good, but I don't know who tf Benn Jordan is.

I watched that whole video because of you guys. I suppose in prnciple I'm supposed to care about musicians not being given a shitty deal. Never heard of him either but he clearly put a lot of time (the value of which being the point) into filming himself talking in front blinken iights euroack and a green screen. I guess that's what he does and prodution values help to get views.

Years ago I licensed a track for a softcore b-movie spoof and was pretty cautious about the contract. I've never seen a penny for that but fuck it.

I had the thought that I’d rather read an article but then reversed it and thought about what I’d think if I saw someone saying “could you make this a video? I’d prefer it to an article” and I kept quiet

inevitably someone will probably write an article and probably have better excerpts of the contract, etc.

Does anyone else watch Steve Wallis/Camping with Steve? He posted the sad news that his wife ("Beautiful Wife", as he calls her and as viewers will know her from his videos) died unexpectedly a few days ago in a short and very emotional video yesterday.

I don't ever comment on YouTube, so just wanted to say here that I feel so sorry for him and hope he is as ok as can be. I've been watching most of his videos for a few years now and he's most definitely a YouTuber whomst is a long long way from terrible. He seems like a lovely guy with absolutely zero pretence and I really enjoy his videos of various camping escapades.
