HBO's Succession - Season 2 and Beyond

If any of them are going to die Ken would have to be the favourite but that just seems a bit too obvious

I've been wondering if Logan might let slip some information about Ken's involvement in that lad's death in season one. You wouldn't put it past the old bastard

logan would be vulnerable on that as well, coverup is worse than the crime and all

He could deny there was any coverup, though. There's no papertrail, and whathisface head of security isn't going to say anything. Out of all the employees, he's the only one they treat well (or at least don't treat horrendously). I suppose he's the only one with a hold over them.

sure he could say there was no cover up of this until now unknown to anyone but him and a small group of coconspirators crime but not sure thats a really strong position to put oneself in

it's almost like Logan is going to use that as long as he can as leverage over Ken--letting info slip out into the press means he loses that leverage

I don't think this show is ever going to go in for that kind of heavy-handed drama. And it's better for it, imo.

maybe not they were def playing with that imagery, having a breakdown looking off a high balcony at a famous suicide sculpture and so forth

i really doubt they're going to go with a suicide but one of the last lines of the episode was ken breaking down and saying "i just want to ... (long pause implying he's going to say 'die') ... go home"

but yeah i think it's more about the idea/imagery than foreshadowing

i could see them doing it, maybe the show goes very dark the last season or two

sorta like them toying with the crucifix--they're not gonna go through with it (at least I don't think.)

I liked when ken walked out after the breakdown and said to Roman “you’re not a real person”

We get it a day later in the UK, as I learned from this thread to my cost…

yeah i usually can't watch until Monday or Tuesday but with two episodes left there's likely to be crazy shit with Ken, considering how the other seasons have gone

I didn’t buy his sudden 180 via hearing that his kids made him a gift. His kids have had about five minutes of screen time the whole series and he’s given two shits about them …until now ?

it's not really about the kids though, it's about his self-perception as a "good person"

I read the "go home" thing more as that he wished he could be at what his home was, with his kids and Rava, before he started using again and things started spinning out of control. I think the next arc for him is going to be trying to get clean and I look to the relationship with Noami to start fraying at the same time. Maybe he takes the payout and checks into rehab in the finale or something.

seems like shiv is going to switch sides/go rogue at some point, using the spying on kendall's kids as an excuse but more because of logan and roman keeping her on the outside

i have finally come around to the position that it doesn't matter who runs the company in the end. i think i'm more worried about how this all ends, i just don't want some stupid ending for these characters, want something satsifying and "real" whatever that means. i trust in the writers though man watching this is rough and cringe at the same time

the key to this season of succession is to remember that peep show was also a show about horrible people who don't learn from their mistakes and slowly get worse and worse until the things that made you empathize with them are just unrecognizable.

Yeah I think the thing with Kendall's kids' present was more about him flailing about looking for something 'real' (or at least flattering to his self-image) in the gigantic edifice of bullshit that he had constructed for himself.

I won't be able to watch the next one until Thursday at the earliest, guess I'm offline until then.

I like that the (lost) kids' present had wrapping paper with rabbits on it, given that he likely killed their pet through his phone instructions an episode or two ago.

it wouldn't make sense, but I worried he'd find the present and the dead rabbit inside

I disagree that he was an asshole and thought his reaction to this gift was pretty measured given how fucked up he was in that moment. I'd have to rewatch the scene, but from what I remember...

1. She pushed it on him to pacify him when he was upset and manically looking for the gift from his kids. Like one would do to distract a child. Right or wrong, he would have picked up on it on some level.
2. Like Logan with Tom's gift (also a watch) in episode one; he doesn't give a shit about watches. Don't buy a watch for a Roy.
3. A $50,000 watch is a trinket to these people.
4. He was actually polite about it at first, until she pushed, and even tried to guilt him about not pretending hard enough to like it. (At least this is how I remembered it.)

In the middle of a moment where he was realizing he was surrounded by sycophants who don't know him/care about him, who had incompetently lost the one gift from people who do know/care about him, she mis-stepped by trying to distract him with a gift that demonstrated how little she knew him.

I think it's the beginning of the end for the relationship. She is really more of a co-dependent drug buddy than a partner, and I wonder if the rest of his story this season is going to be him trying to clean himself up with some half-cocked scheme to get his family back.
