Guess the City

Hobart is lovely (to visit anyway, living there might be different) and pretty different from what people normally think of Australia (ie it's cold!). I've thought of moving down there but then I look at house prices and yikes

Yeah it went nuts about 5 years ago. Cold? currently 30°C / 84 F, but we had snow down to 300m two weeks ago ...
Hobart's climate is almost exactly the same as the Bay Area.

I was there one spring and it was bloody freezing! But I'm currently in Sydney so my idea of what's hot and cold is probably warped. Mind you, we've just had one of the wettest/coldest Novembers in history here...

True, but I have wallabies and pademelons in my back yard every evening, and one morning an echidna bumbling around.

Yeah I thought the shape of the war memorial is very Latin America. Also a statue of a soldier with what looks like either the Virgin Mary or a saint in front of it.

I think the petrol station is PetroEcuador but can't find history of them having a split logo like that.

- the second word on that petrol station looks like America to me
- that big brown monument is the crow's nest of a ship, memorial to some big sinking disaster?
- building to the right with the two portals looks more Middle Eastern
- palm trees

Found the right logo for PetroAmerica in Peru, the O is a globe.

Loving the extremely spartan look and concrete street furniture of Plaza Garibaldi, perhaps like that because it is surrounded by a three/four lane road with no visible means of pedestrian access.

Oh weird! I was some way out, I found the same green/white poles in Esmeraldas, Ecuador but couldn't make it work. Mostly because it wasn't there

the 3d data is good around there and maybe i'm missing it but i can't see anything like the large developments in the middle and to the right of the hill.

So many apartment buildings - must be a big/touristy part of a big city? Not many clues to go on except the truck - the plants feel like they're more tropical than the parts of Brisbane I looked at, maybe?

the steering wheel is on the wrong side for Japan/Okinawa, right? and that 27 wouldn't be in western numbers either - nah, it almost has to be Australia (NZ? not hilly enough around Auckland?)

Japan drives on the left side too, but I think it's Australia/New Zealand too.

Looks like a Norfolk Island Pine behind the truck, which are native to that area, but widely planted elsewhere. Doesn't look fully tropical to me; that could almost be SoCal if you caught it at the right time of year.

it's certainly intriguing. there are a lot of very nice hillsides on the eastern side of Australia, I'm learning, but apartment buildings on them? Not so much. Or I keep missing them. But where, then?
